Finally it is the time of the year all of you know: eSports is coming home!
Well, “home” is not quite right this time. To celebrate the 10th edition we leave our beloved TaKeTV Studio just for the event and move into a location that really sets a focus on celebrating. “Königsburg Krefeld” is the place to be if you want to join an epic party in Krefeld and our venue for the 10th edition of the HomeStory Cup powered by XMG. November 13th - 16th is the date to look out for, further information about this event can be found below.
Date
Players
Format
As you might know we always play 2 group stages at the first 3 days, followed by a single elimination bracket on the final day. Only the best 2 players from a total of 4 in each group will move on to the next round until only 8 players are left to play the elimination bracket.
The group stage is played in a best-of-3 series but on the final day we will extend the series to a best-of-5 and the final will be played in a thrilling best-of-7 series! All games will be shown on stream. For this we will provide two English streams with professional casters like Kevin 'RotterdaM' van der Kooi, Geoff 'iNcontroL' Robinson, Evan 'Winter' Ballnik and of course all the progamers who will be available on site. The games will start at 2 pm every day.
The first group stage will be divided into two days, showing four groups per day. On the third day we will have a 2nd group stage where the remaining 16 players fight for a slot in the playoffs. On the final day we will only have the 8 playoff matches: 4, quarterfinals, 2 semifinals, the third place match and ultimately the Grand Final at the end of the tournament.

Winter is an interesting choice for caster, a bit out of the wheelhouse from the, "Old Boys Club," that tends to characterize HSC. Not a bad choice, but just saying. Regardless, I want to win one of the Need For Seat chairs this year, I try and I try and I try, but no dice thus far.
This is amazing, great price and great experience.
Only 125 euro's for 4 days? That's 31.25 euro per day, and you get a place to sleep, food covered, drinks covered + raffle tickets for some great prizes, after show party drinks, plus poster. Wow, what a deal. If I was homeless, I'd come to this event just because living off of 31.25 euro's per day with everything covered is lower than anything else you'd find in Germany.
Not to mention this sounds like the best experience for any SC2 you'll ever have, this is much more interactive than going to watch the GSL or something like that. Honestly, amazing deal, this sounds like the best tournament in SC2 history in terms of live viewer satisfaction I've ever seen.
Buy your tickets guys! If an airplane ticket didn't cost me $1200 to get there, I would come in a heartbeat.

Same. We need to have a CanadaStory Cup sometime! (preferably western canada so something ever happens here)
I agree, Alberta would make me really happy, BC is okay to I suppose. Don't get too much love here, but there is demand from what I can tell. A 3.5-4.5mil population Toronto/Montreal just sounds more appealing than a 1mil Calgary/Edmonton, or 2 million Vancouver and surroundings. I am quite certain that per capita, there are more gamers in Western Canada than Eastern Canada though.

I think any Albertan is pretty familiar with driving long distances to get anywhere, so really any city in this province is good for everyone. So that's ~3million population right there. Vancouver would be decent too I guess, but nothing happens in Alberta anyway so this would be a huge deal.

Granted I don't always watch winters stream, But when I do its a blast. So please stop the hate train and wait after the event to judge im or anyone else for that matter.

Some people love him some people hate him. I've tried watching his stream, I've tried watching him cast other stuff. I've talked to a friend who likes Winter to try to see why he likes him. I just don't get it. I can't stand him.
I'm currently calculating the cost if I go there for two days. It would be something like 250/300€ including tickets, hotel and train. It's not that bad and really tempting.

I'm warming(hurr hurr) to Winter, as a caster. I don't know anything about his stream, don't watch player streams, but he's greatly improved as a caster lately. I used to find him highly annoying, but he's chilled out a lot, and just kind of calls things as he sees them.
Also, he seems to volunteer to stream a lot of stuff others don't bother with, giving people a way to catch games they otherwise might have missed.
From what I've seen of Winters stream, which is minimal (due to not enjoying it), I don't think I'll enjoy his casting at all. I can see him being good to cater for SC2 noobies I guess, but majority of us watching love the Pro level commentary more than anything. He doesn't seem to a good fit for a HSC event, but whatever.
Apart from that, this loooks sick! Shame I've used up my holiday time up at work, seems like an awesome event to attend.

So I worked out how much I would be spending to go, about £100 for the flights about £100 for a hotel (sorry not going to sleep on a floor back gets screwed) and then maybe £50 for food and drinks maybe more. Then budget tickets at £8 a day so £32.
Roughly £300 at the minimum and I'd want to go for a premium at minimum and I would probably spend more on food/drink so I'd be looking more at £420. edit- just realised the number pun not intentional.
Don't think I can drop that sort of money. Shame. Is there anyway we can enter/pay for signed items during the event and then pay for shipping?
Interested to see how Winter interacts with everyone. His chat is ruled with an iron first so it will be interesting to see him interact with the overly BM-sarcasm (which is awesome) that is HSC.
Would you guys lay off of the caster bashing? I mean there are a lot of people that I don't like as casters, either because they crossed me personally or because of their casting quality, but I may not always vocalize it.
I guess it will be business like usual. IMO we'll see a strong euro contingent mixed with US fan favorites plus some awesome Koreans and the one or other surprise pick.

Winter's not as bad as he used to be.
I'm going to miss the homey atmosphere, but I'm sure I'll enjoy the new party atmosphere! And Incontrol and Rotterdam should guarantee some awesome casts. I wonder if the Axiom boys could be talked into casting a Korean stream.

We are entitled to voice our opinions. Casting is a job, and just like any other; if you're not good at it, you shouldn't be doing it (not that I'm saying he's that bad). There are loads of great casters, he's just not one of the best in my opinion.
Mostly I find it a strange decision, he doesn't seem to fit with the HSC feel. Saying this, I hope he proves us wrong and Take made the right decision. Will be a sick event regardless.
Highly curious and excited to see Winter in action for casting a pro tournament. Absolutely love his stream, but that only demonstrates his ability to explain fundamentals/basic strategy to lower skill players. I wanna see how he does in terms of describing the pros.

I will confess I am not the biggest fan of his stream, but I am definitely willing to give him a chance. Also some new faces on the big stage are nice for a change.
Looking forward to another awesome HSC! #HYPE

Holy shit this sounds fuckin amazing! Sounds like a weekend retreat for Starcraft fans and a bound to be awesome tournament all in one. If I was in Europe, I'd dig into the savings and go to this party, wow!
Next HSC... probably ultra ticket... right now I cannot get legally outside of Czech Republic(my ID card is a little bit outdated :D oops :D) and I also do not have vacation days to get there comfortably enough... DAMN IT!

Also, for the record, we already had a couple of German guys casting in english on HomeStoryCup, when their knowledge of the language was ridiculous (e.g. HeroMarine and some other kid). People will automatically turn off the stream cause of that. Don't mind Khaldor of course, but there is just that level of dignity that HSC should still have when it comes to casters.

I don't think winter is very good at the game nor is he super knowledgeable, however I assume they want to use his persona to raise the viewer count which makes a lot of sense.

Homestory Cup isn't only about the best possible play, it's about entertainment. I am not sure if a huge amount of KESPA players could deliver or would be up for casting. Even though I think Jaedong, Flash (maybe), Parting, Innovation (maybe), Scarlett, Taeja and 1-2 more KESPA Koreans will be there, the rest would be to much.
Cool how you can view bot to make yourself known then be an average community caster and be invited to host at a reputable event while other community casters do it the hard way and don't make it. Awesome! :D
Production always had a good feel to put the casters out that the community wants (for the main stream). So if Winter blows he will probably be put into another role. Conversely, Incontrol has always got a bigger role whenever he participated. And to some extent I find that a little sad, not because I don't like hearing Incontrol cast, but HSC was always a place to hear players cast that are very rough around the edges, even if it might not appeal to everyone. Well, at least there is always the side stream.
But I don't want to end the post with a sad note, so I go with YAY HOMESTORY CUP! HOMESTORY CUP!

Well there's this statistical analysis from Reddit which proved him innocent, the fact that he has never shown up in The Twitch Bot Detector. I don't have a source for the Twitch but it is true and there's no way Twitch would allow someone to get a Premium Partnership (which allows the streamer to get more sub and and ad revenue from Twitch) if they viewbotted.
Winter has said (as has Ketroc) that he has on a couple of isolated occasions had a view bot run on his channel without permission as a sort of free sample. But that is not in his control and not something he can be blamed for.

Then where did his viewership come from? His play is sub par (compared to other streamers) and his casting is just ok. Where did all those viewers come from and how did they all come so fast?
I don't understand why it is ok for people to spread this hate towards winter tbh (not only hate, this are serious accusations which damage his brand cause people believe everything more than one "source" says). It is kinda a witch hunt, i actually don't think this should be ok on these forums, where can i post this complain to get some discussion on this?

Dude, the statistics speak for themselves read the Reddit thread. Unless you want to accuse Stephano of viewbotting as well then you simply can't say that Winter is viewbotting.
I'll post the conclusion for clarity but I would recommend that people have a look at the raw statistics themselves.
So, is someone viewbotting Winter's channel? Probably not, unless someone is viewbotting both his and Stephano’s stream as well. Stephano and Winter have roughly the same statistics across the board in every metric. According to chat message counts, unique people in chat, followers, and drops in viewer count over a 2 minute period of time, both winter and Stephano have roughly equivalent statistics across the board (though Stephano has higher average and peak viewer counts).
Similarly, other metrics used (such as messages in chat, and "drops" in viewer count, as cited on Unfiltered) fall apart under closer scrutiny. Other SC2 streamers have very similar numbers in terms of chat messages, people chatting, and "viewer drops". At this point, only twitch could find out if someone is view botting, and if Winter is botting (based on the statistics), other popular sc2 streamers (such as stephano) must be as well.
Let me introduce a radical theory here. Maybe people tune into Winter's streams because they like his content because they have a different taste to you? Outlandish, I know.
The tourney looks soooooo sick. HSC never ceases to amaze!!
Community should rally around a guy like Rifkin so Winter stays home. This guy has put 10 000 times the effort. Hell Id rather get avilo casting than Winter.
dont know what is the deal between Take and Winter, but there is still time to give the fans what they want! ( and reward an awesome member of the sc2 community )

I'm going to help you since you apparently haven't researched twitch view bots at all.
1. Bots not only watch streams, they also talk in the chat(source: found this in 5 seconds using google: https://onlinestreambot.com/ ). The reddit link is worthless.
2. " there's no way Twitch would allow someone to get a Premium Partnership (which allows the streamer to get more sub and and ad revenue from Twitch) if they view botted. "
One of the major advertisement points for these view bot selling companies is helping you get partnered quickly.
3. What Winter says on the topic doesn't matter, you could easily claim that someone else is view botting you and there's nothing you can do about it while actually being the one doing it yourself. Who in the fuck would spend their own money on view botting someone else's channel?(Okay I'm sure It's been done, but really how unlikely is this)
This guy is not relevant to the esports scene at all, how he's being included in an event this big is baffling

Not it's not at all worthless. It is analysing several data points, chat activity is only one of them. And besides, the numbers Winter pulls goes way beyond of the bot you are linking (only 40 chatters and 200 live viewers a month). Besides, if you ever have been in Winter's chat you would know how authentic it is. No different to BaseTradeTV's chat with similar numbers.

Well obviously it doesn't work because Twitch has more about them, hence why Winter was recently cleared by them.

Are you calling Ketroc a liar too? And I'm pretty sure that Rifkin has talked about some dodgy stuff with the viewer count that he was unsure about too.
I mean at this stage despite all the evidence you are clearly just believing what you want to believe because the reality contradicts your preconceived beliefs and opinion of the guy.

Darkhorse is actually a writer for Team Liquid so you'd never get anywhere anyway. But besides, it's almost good in a way that people post defamatory shit because it gives people a chance to post the facts and put them straight so I don't think censorship and reporting the thread is the way to go anyway.

Nope. He was pretty unknown until about 12 months ago, exploded in December by doing community casting for some event (IEM? DH?) then steadily grew past 1K, then 1.5K, then 2K and beyond from about February till today.
Also, the fact that Twitch gave him a PREMIUM partnership means he's been cleared by them. (Not to mention the fact that staff chat with him in his own channel).
Plus the Reddit thread statistically proving he doesn't bot.
Plus community alarms like the Twitch_Bot Twitter account or however it's called.
How much proof do we need to throw at you before you drop this ridiculous tirade? I say this to everyone that steps in here just to whine about Winter and throw not only baseless but demonstrably false accusations against the guy.
I'm not a fan and I don't like his stream, so I would have preferred someone like RifKing instead. I also believe other comuinity members merit/deserve it more.

I'm going to help you since you apparently haven't researched twitch view bots at all.
1. Bots not only watch streams, they also talk in the chat(source: found this in 5 seconds using google: https://onlinestreambot.com/ ). The reddit link is worthless.

Even if winter has viewbotted in the past, what's there to be done now? He got the gig and we'll see how he does. If he spaghettis he'll disappear and if he's good he'll continue on. It's not like other people in esports haven't done questionable things to get a breakthrough.

Only people with passion play terran This is a fact. Patron Saint Boxer has set the example.
But Rifkin would def be a good addition. I watch his casts a lot of times.
I personally am excited BECAUSE Winter is casting it. Oh and I love all the GM players confused about why Winter has lots of viewers even though he is "only mid-Masters". Nobody gives a shit that you are GM, people watch players because of personality and commentary. Winter is easily the best streamer at that and that is why he is popular. Only way to get viewers based on skill is if you are a RO4+ WCS Premier league player or a champion of a major tournament. Even then, your viewers will be lower than streamers with good commentary unless you match it.
Have checked winter's stream a few times, purely out of curiosity because the high viewership. I gotta say that he's far from impressive, mostly only describe whatever happen atm, analysis kind of shallow, don't know much about player history or style. Then again, he's a community streamer, not a full time caster and I don't think he put so much effort like a pro caster, so the casting style is kind of understandable.
This event might be his window of opportunity to step higher, but somehow I doubt he could deliver
Oh, and I agree with the guy above, viewership isn't solely depend on skill. I see MC, Bomber, and Stardust streaming, their viewership is far below incontrol or demuslim. Skillwise, we know which one is better

ye, i was thinking the same. also his chat was really quiet for 3k people watching it. kinda boring tbh. even if i don´t think his appearance at hsc will change my mind about his stream, maybe i´ll understand why people like it.
Is winter that guy that stream from day 1 and have like ... 300 viewers ? (or maybe it's 3K ?) I remember that name but i'm not sure i'm on thhe good guy. Hope so, he was cool

I think Take mentioned on stream that Winter offered to do this for free of his own and just wanted to come over and do this. Say what you want but he has #passion and makes his own opportunities. It's not lilke Take was looking for another caster he'd pay (I'm pretty sure it would've only been Rotti and iNcontrol originally) and decided on Winter. Winter made this happen on his own and I respect that. He will also be doing more interviews than casting (I can hear NarutO exhaling in relief).
On September 30 2014 14:17 Applesmack wrote: Nobody gives a shit that you are GM, people watch players because of personality and commentary. Winter is easily the best streamer at that and that is why he is popular.
Isn't personality something subjective? How can you be easily the best in something subjective? Seems quite hard to me.
Anyway, what is wrong with this thread? We have the announcement of the 10th HSC with all it's features and you are complaining about 1/37 of the casting-lineup, which doesn't even get paid to get there? The main casting will usually done by players anyway, the interviews are interesting because of answers, not questions, he will barely make any impact at all. And since he is apperently paying for himself, he is not taking a spot of someone else either. Just ignore him and watch the other 36 casters do their job.
On September 30 2014 21:01 The_Red_Viper wrote: This thread sums up what is wrong with the sc2 community perfectly. (read that in stephano's voice): It's fucking disgusting.
No, I'd heavily protest against that statement. People here are complaining about stuff, they don't agree with. You will see that everywhere. People complained about iNcontrol, Kaelaris, Naniwa, Idra, Axlav, Axeltoss, Husky, day[9] and Tasteless getting casting gigs before (actual casting gigs, not appearences in a tournament, which heavily focuses on players casting), discussions about that are nothing new. And the level of negativity compared to other games/forums is decently low as well.
The thing that is wrong with this thread is, that it's focus is on some detail instead of being on HSC 10.

It was the only time i saw him cast and he was a disaster, embarrassing himself trying to be funny. It wasn't a fight between them but he muted just to present something since Winter was talking non stop.
The Winter bashing is getting old by now. If you want to accuse him of viewbotting (this goes for anyone and everyone) it would be really cool if you spent five minutes looking at the material that people have gathered that essentially proves Winter "innocent". It's absolutely fine to not like him and voice that opinion, but acting like it's somehow a fact that he's a "viewbotting bitch" or something of the sort is stupid.
From all these enthusiastic endorsements on here and reddit Winter was clearly the right choice. But he seriously has a lot of uphill climbing to do if he's going to win over the sc community.
Dont understand the hate on winter. He is not like so many other players that just left streaming when they could not get the numbers. Just please dont waste a slot for incontrol in this tournament. Dont make it a joke.

I can confirm that this Winter kid is supicious. Everyone doubts his activities since spring this year when he was getting 3000 /viewers/bots as a diamond level player.
Today I was in his stream, again 1700 people watching, the same 20 people actually chatting. And those 20 were pretty angry when I mention something about botting and banned me.
If I remember that Desrow who worked his ass off with streaming, creating content, teaching players how to play, even playing on tournaments, WCS etc. Now he has audience that Winter has except he actually worked for it and it took him nearly 3 years to get there. Winter just get this audiance from day to day.
1,7k has usually Khaldor in this time of day when he's casting some game from Korea.
And the recent TOP streamers list from TL is embarrasing aswell. How can Winter beat players like Stephano who used to have 15k viewers or basically anyone. Grubby, Parting, DeMuslim are more famous and entertaining than he will ever will be.
I say: Let's boycott his attendence at homestory cup!

Just out of curiosity, how are you going to boycott someones attendence?
Winter's stream is interesting, he does alot of stuff that us less-than-masters players can get on board with and learn from. The past is the past, each time I've watched him, his chat seems genuine enough.
HSC is 1 of my favourite tourneys of the year. The vibe of the event, the way it brings all the players & personalities together in a low key manner, where everyone gets to be themselves a little bit more & we get to see more of their personalities. It creates a sense of family that IS the SC2 community amongst all that attend, its really refreshing to see. Its for that reason why i believe so many people are surprised Winter is attending, because whether its right or not, he has become somewhat of a derisive topic. Perhaps some people are just afraid his presence may take more away from the overall enjoyment then adding to it. This i believe is the heart of the anti Winter stuff. What does he add by going, versus if he wasnt there at all. As it is this announcement has been not just about an awesome tournament, but has now degraded into people voicing their opinions about a guy named Winter who as someone stated earlier, only represents 1/37th of the event itself. Perhaps this will translate into more viewers overall, or perhaps people will flame in chat when he's on, or they will find another stream all together. I personally wouldnt have brought him along, but I for one will watch HSC like i do every year & cant wait to see some awesome games & commentary! Thanks again to all those that make this event happen! U know who u are! Peace!
PS, Rifkin's the man. 1 of the hardest working casters out there. Passion up the wazzoo for the game. Would love to see him at a HSC or any event out there.
I love HSC, by far, the most entertaining tourney out there, but Winter? Is he there to replace Destiny? The guy really needs to lay off the coffee and slow down his stream/casts. This is not a speed talking contest.

Agreed, that said TL staff should be the first to refrain from that. There's TL's leeway to respected posters and contributors and there's people saying identical things and some being banned/warned and others not.
Regardless, this event looks sick. If it wasn't such relatively short notice I'd have been there to see some of you fine TLers, maybe next year!
Also please stfu about 'x is so hardworking, they deserve y'. Sometimes just working hard isn't enough, you have to have a particular talent. If it was down to hard work alone Protech's 391 hours streamed last month would count for more

I think Homestory Cup is just as much about the homely and laid-back atmosphere as it is about actually being at Take's place. Everything the tournament is remains, only in a different location.

Esports saved.
I'd pay big money to see that. I cant even decide who wins... I guess it depends how drunk Stephano is...
Naniwa would win it. He has probably prepared strategies for this day since 2012. Idra might be buff and all but he'd get annoyed at the game and get knocked out while looking for a way to ragequit the cage. Stephano would be too drunk to hit anybody. Nerchio would smile while they're being beaten down by Naniwa until he realizes it's his turn next.

And I agree with your sentiment about Dimaga. Why you would allow him to play while putting ToD onto the caster couch is beyond me. I mean, at least ToD participated in the Premier League of the last WCS Europe, while Dimaga was eliminated in Season 2 of last year's WCS.

Wait what? Why? Polt and Hyun not attending...? D:

just referring to the mysterious tweet by Hyun (one page before this). I would rather guess that it means that only Polt won`t attend.

or that Hyun doesnt need to bother to go because Polt would crush Hyun anyways
I'd wait for a confirmation from TaKe that Polt isn't attending, HyuN's tweet could be out of humour because the two of them are close friends and things get lost in translation.

Wanna bet on his performance? I'm giving good odds. :D
Good for Petraeus but I'm really disappointed to not watch Polt at HSC. He would fit so well there. Did they give the reason ? I guess it's the price of the trip since he is technically "teamless" and it has to come out of his pocket.

What happened to CMStorm? The team that has him and Revival?

Dunno, I guess he just isn't popular. Anyways, I don't understand why Take has to invite dedicated casters in the first place. Just give me three well-articulated professionals, I can listen to them arguing the metagame all day.

In an german interview with Take, he said that Winter does all his things (casting & interviews) at HSC X for free and Take only have to pay 50% of flight cost. (I dont know who pays his accommodation). Take said, this "offer" is definitely worth a try. Everyone knows that Take always tried some "up and comer" guys come to HSC events.
