I had hoped for a cool announcement by the chairman. Like a new Starleague or something. But good to see the relations between KeSPA and Blizzard seem to be fine. (And WCS points for Proleague? )
i wonder if this guy was late and was supposed to give the speech pregame and they said: fuckit, nerds just deal with it that we are interrupting your dumb finals.

I asume we'll get an intermission; Wouldvé been fine then but to interupt the finals just after one game is a bit weird.
On September 14 2014 19:14 OtherWorld wrote: I guess WCS points for Proleague will help prevent the exile of Koreans to foreign teams?
no it will not. there are other reasons for going to foreign teams besides WCS points
Yeah, Parting, Hydra, effort probably knew for some time about what the chairman said just know, but even so they choose to try a foreign team
Also, 95% of other KeSPA player are going to be able to sit in Korea during the entire year, play GSL and SPL and end up in BlizzCon if they are doing well.

Seriously, how on earth does the DH quarterfinals get more viewers than the final of the KeSPA Cup?
I think DH gets exposure in the SC client, Idk, if kespa cup gets the same. Also PvP finals vs TvP. And the fact, that people were already on DH stream from the ro16.

herO lacks the confidence to commit, waited way too long there, i just can't picture what he thought would happen if he waits another 3 minutes running across the map and doing nothing about that 3rd base

Yeah really weird decision there. He didn't even drop his own 3rd or anything. Just kinda waited around on 2 base letting Zest get ready :s

Lol yeah Wolf was wrong, herO had to do something, he was going to loose all his buildings while Zest at least had the proxy gates. Clutch mining long distance by Zest actually made the game, really smart crisis decision making.

Anyway, not my fault, have both of them open.
I really enjoy Dreamhack's don't get me wrong but I'm concentrating fully on the KeSPA Cup right now. I love Korean StarCraft. Dreamhack will still be on later when KeSPA Cup has finished.
To be honest, I think that foreign StarCraft and foreigners in general pulls higher viewership outside the hardcore StarCraft fans. I don't think casual viewers and the wider StarCraft viewership are interested in Korean StarCraft, they care more about local heroes and foreign hopes. This is why I changed my stance on the whole region lock issue. I was originally against it but now I actually think it will grow the viewership for WCS.

Yeah everyone is saying that. My OP is taking so long to save changes. There isn't even that much traffic right now so not sure why everything is breaking.

Understandable, I'm currently also focusing on kespa cup. Those are just reason, that came to my mind, why other people might enjoy DH more.
I think I remember Brendan or Wolf at the beginning saying that 76% of the time (or something similarly high) the person who won the first map went on to win the series.... those stats aren't looking too great now =P

Even Flash can win IEM so I don't see how that's relevant.
Ouch. Much hate. Flash did beat Taeja, Zest, and a scary Snute in his IEM win though. It's not like he just walked over scrubs. He was top 4 in this tournament as well and murdered the qualifiers including Maru.

Too bad for the ones who missed out. I'm a big Flash fan, but Zest does some slick stuff, and PvP is pretty crazy. That proxy was super mind game ballsy and frankly something I never would've seen coming from Zest.

Whelp, I had to go look up Horang2's first televised game where he faced Flash and DT rushed his way to victory. Instantly made me a big fan back in the day. That nostalgia.

I don't think the whine would be so huge since Zest has been doing great all year, and actually he's the favorite to win it all IMO... Zest, Rain( if he gets there ), Taeja, soO, Bomber(when he's on the Law mode), are pretty much the favorites
mC and hyun participate 10 big leagues and get about 5500points.zest participate 4 big leagues and get about 5500 points. Lol what a shame. Mc go back to korea and go back to code b
I just watched game 4, there were some moments of absolute clairvoyance by zest
At 3:45 the zealot finishes, Zest sends it away from the base, but if you watch the mini map he actually sends it to the rocks to the third out of the vision range of the stalkers, then sends it straight back into the base of herO knowing herO would send his stalkers straight to his base. And at 4:30-4:54 if you look at the minimap herO sends his probes out to the natural minerals as well but zest's zealots snipe every last one of them. herO's biggest mistake was actually when he started mineral walked the one two probes out to the natural at 3:56 he didn't give it them command to move across the map, he could have just mined enough minerals with his probes in base for an extractor and forced a draw.

I think it's higher than basketball, lower than football (don't quote me on this). If you ask me it's pretty boring and more people watch it than should

Baseball is pretty popular. Probably 2nd in viewership behind American Football. I find both of those sports terribly boring though. Hockey is where it's at.

Yep Football is #1, baseball is #2. Baseball is one of the sports where watching on the TV is boring but there is nothing better than going to a baseball game (especially at Wrigley Field.)
Sorry it's almost a week after the fact, had some distractions that made it take much longer than it should have, but I translated eSports Daily's interview with Flash before the Quarter Final if anyone's interested:
You had a tough time advancing to the Quarter Finals, how do you feel? I was lucky to be able to go up and play today. In fact, I almost forfeited today’s match.
I heard your condition isn’t good. I didn’t go home for Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) so that I could carry on practising, but since everywhere was closed I couldn’t play for a week and then yesterday I caught enteritis (intestinal inflammation) of all things, meaning I couldn’t practise properly. The fact I could even go up and play today is a miracle.
It seemed like your concentration was lacking in today’s match. I’m completely fine now, but since I spent so much time in the bathroom yesterday all my spirit drained out of me. It’s also really hard because I’ve got no energy. I caught a cold too so my condition was bad.
It seemed like your WCS GSL elimination had given you a serious shock. It was fortunate that I had time to pull myself back together. My heart was regaining strength, so I was flustered when my body started to worsen. However, because I was defeated by strong opponents I didn’t take it too hard. Thankfully I still had the KeSPA Cup left and I wanted to do my best at that competition, but because I was ill it was very frustrating. Nevertheless, I was fortunate enough to be able to make it to the Quarter Final. It seems like I can play the Quarter Finals in better circumstances than the Round of 16.
Were you confident about your match with Son Seok-hee? I had confidence, but I remember overseas Protoss players being difficult to work out. I had a very hard time playing against Jang Min-chuk.
Is it true that players who play overseas have a different match style? The style is certainly different. Korean Protoss players are better at the basics, but overseas Protoss players have an unpredictability. Bad situations such as attacks you couldn’t predict happen often.
I heard that Joo Sung-wook said this season’s maps are good for Terran. No way (laughs). He might have a good feeling about the three maps, but in fact there doesn’t seem to be anything for Protoss to complain about. (laughs).
Jung Yoon-jong and Won Lee-sak didn’t renew their contracts with SK Telecom. It’s a shame, but from what I’ve heard there’s more merit in overseas teams than Korean teams. I remember Won Lee-sak saying how as soon as he got out of SK Telecom he started getting love calls from overseas teams. Before, among the association officials one man said “If it turns out going overseas really is better I won’t stop him from grabbing the opportunity to go to an overseas team”, now that time seems to have come.
The Korean Association should come up with a better idea to attract player besides salary. Like making it possible for players to freely participate in overseas competitions. The merit of overseas competitions is much bigger than I thought.
Since I’m symbolic and have a lot of affection for KT, I have no thoughts of going to an overseas team. I’m here because of the respect I get. There are parts that the team can fix through efforts but different solutions also need to be found.
From that point of view, I think this KeSPA Cup is a good try. It will be good if more competitions like this happen in the future.
Finally, is there anything you’d like to say? I will try my hardest to make sure I show my fans the best performances possible from the Quarter Finals onwards. I want to go out and play a good Quarter Final match with Eo Yoon Su.

Moving back up to university on Saturday though so not sure how much time I'll have to work on it over the next few days, I'll try my best though. Unless I get caught up on a tricky piece of grammar (there's always one!!) I might be able to knock it out kinda quickly though, fingers crossed! haha
I'll admit, I know very little about SC2/LoL/general eSports. I want to get into it all but I'm not really sure how to make a start on it and the volume of it all seems a little intimidating. I just know a lot of people do like it and moreso that most of the top players tend to be Korean so it seemed a good use and practise for my Korean skills, whilst also helping out a lot of people get news on their favourite players that they might not otherwise. Cus of my ignorance though it also means I have a bit of trouble finding relevant news so any help pointing towards relevant articles people want translated is appreciated, and maybe in time I'll become knowledgeable enough to not need my hand to be held.
Would it be fine to post it in this thread when I'm done? I don't really know the whole 'forum etiquette' here yet so dunno if I take a while if there'd be a problem me bumping back up a thread on a competition that ended over a week ago, or if making a whole thread on SC2 General just for my translation would be too much.
also sorry about posting the article link, I felt like a dick for doing it (and dunno how against the rules it is in terms of 'advertising' or whatever) but we're new and need the spreading awareness...I thought posting the whole interview instead of just the link might make it a lil more acceptable though since I'm still contributing with a translations instead of spamming links. All eSports news translations I do will be on there though so without trying to sound too much of a shill you can check there if you wanna see new translations as I do them instead of hoping to stumble across them here. Which is another thing I'm unsure of. Is there a particular place I should be posting translations, or do I just need to hunt down the most relevant thread and post it there? I saw a 'translations' thread stickied in the main SC2 General but it seemed dead so I didn't wanna randomly post something after 8 months since the last

I'm glad at least a few people found it useful!
Oh man, you come as a blessing! ^.^
If I'm not mistaken, translators here on TL usually group all the WCS translations for a round in a single thread (example). Everytime a player advances the Korean sites interview them, so there is a loooot of stuff to translate so usually the translators ask the forum members to vote who's interviews they'd like to read first.
For the other interviews besides WCS I think the translator simply creates a thread and post the translation there (example).
I'm not sure about the self advertising rules but I don't think there won't be a problem if you link to your own site everytime you post a translation. I'd suggest you go to /r/starcraft and post your work there too.
The Korean sites I can think of that cover Starcraft are www.inven.co.kr, esports.dailygame.co.kr, www.thisisgame.com. Those are the sites you should keep an eye on if you're looking for things to translate. I believe they follow most of the interesting tournaments (WCS (aka GSL), IEM, Dreamhack, MLG).
I'm gonna check out your site now. You should know you're making the nerds here happy :D

Thanks for the help! I'll try remember it all Just shared it on Reddit too. Wasn't happy about making an account after resisting for so long but hey it had to happen eventually haha (was instantly deleted though but mod sorted it out just as quick for me too)
No problem, I'm more than happy to help you guys! I've already got far more recognition and appreciation from eSports fans for the two things I've translated than I've ever got from ungrateful fangirls for all the countless K-Pop/Hip-Hop shit I've translated over the last two years!

They don't know what they are talking about... baseball is a CLEAR 3rd. basketball surpassed baseball a long time ago esp in the all important 18-40 age group. Honestly with all the issues football has been having, it wouldn't shock me if basketball overtook football one of these days
