It wasn't this exact playstyle. It was his split army style that utterly failed in g2. The doom drop style is quite recent and it meshs very well with Polt general play style (splitting his army and never fighting the main army) but he picked it up like everyone after the 1st mine buff (+ shield dmg and the beginning of late viking play vs colo).

Polt did it against Classic and Rain during a time when all of Korea couldn't do it against Classic or Rain except for Maru.
or confusing splitting his army (these games on heavy rain <3) and doom dropping. He didn't made it to Cologne final by dropping or harassing, just refusing to fight the army straight on and base trading when needed. which made some exceptionnal games.
