Unless you get bane speed they are mostly useless at this stage, speedlings just avoid them and waddling them across the map takes too long. You can make defensive banes, but if you can avoid it you can pool gas for roaches and upgrades. Life defended very well and so didn't need banes

The things is, for ZvZ there is an alternative playstyle that is just so much more fun to watch and play, muta/ling wars. Imagine if every PvP was just mass cannon rushes all the time, I'd watch the shit out of that.

soO is playing really weird, I feel. His ling control is really ok but no match for life. His mutas got scouted and Life actually makes spores. Army positioning is really good for him, but he tries to make plays when it seems like he doesn't have to.

For a brief period of time they set themselves up as a tax haven offshore bank. So they had some servers I guess! They also got paid by the US Governement to establish an embassy in China to smuggle North Korean Nuclear Scientists out for interrogation. But that's another story...

He wasn't on there much really. He's highly respected of course but towards the end of last year it was all about Dear. Even with IEM and Blizzcon, very few people were predicting sOs to win.

I mean twitch data centres
There are none for sure. We can hardly get them in Europe let alone one of the most unpopulated and remote countries in the world. Nauru does have a 96% unemployment rate and over 90% of people have diabetes so Twitch could put some infrastructure in place to capitalise on lots of people sitting around and watching GSL.

He also always has the spine ready to back the wall up, that's the strong suit as well

No, I mean just the wall-off the second he sees aggression by the opponent. Game 5: Life sees soO's Lings approaching, instantly walls off, goes for the "bace-race" and holds thanks to the Evo's + Spine + Queens.

Life botched that. His counter attack was good until he atatcked in the spine crawler. At that point he didn't even have a bigger force and his roaches were mostly damaged. No wonder he got crushed, bad idea.

I did miss the first two maps but maps 3-6 were all on Life. By this I mean that win or lose was on all him, especially in the 6th map. LIfe wins a map, Life goes for some silly rush and loses the map, then Life wins another map, then he overextends horribly and loses the map he was in a comfortable position to win.
Sigh, his play is so frustrating and entertaining at the same time. -_-

Just out of curiosity, why is Zest less faceless than soO? Not that I care that much, GSL finals should be players who earned it and soO definitly deserves it, beating Life, PartinG, sOs this season and being already a finalist in the last one.

It would have been a roll over with Life in it. Life hasn't been good in PvZ this year for 2014 Life is 14–22 (38.89%) in games and 6–8 (42.86%) in matches losing to basically every good protoss he faced and getting 8 of his wins against Paralyze and Billowy who arent that good. The other wins are against JYP who is meh, Yonghwa who has looked terrible this year, losing 1-3 to Welmu and going down 1-5 vs Creator

I understand people are upset Life lost (well some people) but you should still respect the winner. I m not even a fan of soO but he deserves respect for making it to the finals again

And since you like the team, it makes sense that you develop that same fondness for all the players on the team. When those players participate in individual leagues, then, you still root for them. Also, players in individual leagues are still representing the team you like because of team leagues.

I personally like it. How to donate some roach to make supply room for hydras or infestors. How to split up the enemy roach balls.
It's boring only because both are so good at defending and attacking and not a lot of rooms to open up holes in their defense etc
I do think soO has a pretty good chance vs Zest, don't forget that he stomped Parting, Parting only took a single game off him because of a silly mistake by soO.
Also, Zest has a ton of momentum, but also tons of Proleague games out there for soO and all the SKT T1 Protosses to study (especially since they don't have Proleague playoffs to prepare for lololol (sorry for the reminder SKT T1 fans)).

Yeah. soO has got two finals appearance in a row. Life has won many titles (GSL, IS2, MLG), in a row.
There's a huge gap between getting to the finals and winning it (ask JD, heh).
I'm not arguing about who's better in their current shape (I think soO is a bit higher). But Life sure knows how to win when it matters. He's the only one to win with a comeback against Mvp in a GSL finals. He won IS2 4 - 3 vs DRG after being down 0 - 3.

Actually, from what I understood, the teams that players play for were always taking it primarily as team competition first and individual second. Kinda like cycling I guess.
No offense to soO or Zest, but man, I would've preferred almost anyone else from the top 8. Oh well, they're certainly in fine form this season and deserve it.
Boredom in ZvZ is mostly in roach engagements, otherwise the match-up seems like it has many different openings, exciting zergling and baneling engagements, different end game strategies, counter attacks, economic risks, multitasking, army positioning. I think if Blizzard wanted to they could turn it into a good match-up in LotV.
Anyway, I'm happy soO won, never liked Life too much. I just hope he won't self-immolate in the finals again. (soO and Roro for favorite zergs)
Ugh, for the second season in a row, my least favourite finals possibility becomes a reality. I would've been happy with any of the other 3 players from either bracket, but this is so anti-hype again.

surprised it wasn't even mentioned by the casters that soO's one of the very few who made two consecutive GSL finals... and there's only 3 of them a year now and not 11 like when Nestea did it, so it's very impressive. Since the game is so coin flippy in mirror matchups and all-ins are so strong, no one can dominate for longer than a month or two, tops. THAT is the main problem with sc2. The faceless koreans are boring, because their interview responses are so generic, but i recall Soo's interview when he faced dear in the finals were quite funny.

Yeah, Soulkey was just a scrub throughout all of lasts year and not dominating at all. Taeja and Polt each winning 5tournaments just comes from volatility of the game. And soO making two consecutive GSL finals is a great reason to whine about inconsistency of topplayers..

Saying that soO isn't a top player is just silly. PartinG, player which will appear in probably everyone's top-10 if not top-5 never made A SINGLE GSL FINAL even if he has mediocre PvZ to say the best. And soO just made 2, 2 in a row, which in era where new GSL doesn't happen every month, never being absolutely atrocious besides it and he's solid in every matchup.
Rock solid is one of definitions of being "top". And soO is real definition of rock solid.

The game is volatile. soulkey has placed HIGH, but he hasn't won a championship for a while, and pretty sure he got eliminated in this season's group stages of gsl. guys like taeja and polt will suffer random eliminations, as does liquid hero and so on and so forth

You realize that just because noone is dominating by your definition it doesnt mean the game is to blame. F1 can be doninated very hard, but when no Sebastian Vettel in a topnotch RedBull is around it can also lead to 3different champions in 3different seasons and no player winning more than 4-5races in a season.

Having a consistent winner or at least finalist isn't the same thing as having no upsets whatsoever at any point in a 32 man tournament. And honestly, it wasn't that boring in Brood War, in fact it was hella hype when players remained strong for enough time to be able to win multiple OSLs/MSLs.
I think fishjie is exaggerating a bit, but at the same time he does kinda have point. The crown at the very top seems to be shifting really quickly, almost on a monthly basis even, and to me personally, as a viewer and general follower of SC2 professional competition, that is a lot less interesting than having someone crush face for a longer period of time, like Mvp, MMA, DongRaeGu, Life, TaeJa managed to do in 2011 and 2012.
Also, regarding the convo above, I agree that it's pretty idiotic to think soO is just some random nobody who's never gonna do well ever again.

Oh, man, plz stop mentioning foreign tournaments, they are less convincing than code A championship if it exists.
Molecraft is pretty good at solocasting but he just cant get the duo dynamic going. He constantly interrupts his co-commentator, ignores what they have to say and sometimes downright SIGHs into the microphone because his co-host is talking wich seems to annoy him because he wants to talk endlessly.

In my opininon this is only because we have 3 GSLs in a year instead of the 10 we had before. I would say that volatility is even going down instead of up.
Every hots champion last year is at least still relevant today. Soulkey ro16, Maru ro8, Dear ro16. The finalists aren't too bad either with Rain placing ro4 and soO ro2. Innovation seems to be the exception to the rule with failing in Code A. I am blaming the foreign team for that. He still does well in overseas tournaments.
Even RorO had a resurgence and ended in the Ro16.
Compare this to last years results and you will see that consistency in the big picture went up instead of down.
I remember the last MLG when there were Kespa qualifiers and soO, Dear and I think Stats made it through. Everyone complained that they were low-tier Kespa players, but look at them now lol.

I blame balance as well, the way Innovation went out was pretty stupid and he got caught in a 3 toss group when Blink just got really popular and wasn't even close to being figured out. Might say he got caught when the T metagame was behind Protoss. It's the only reason he went out.

So where are those Ro16 exits consistant domination? It's consistant, especially back-to-back GSL finals, and I'm not taking anything off this guy in terms of skill. But to me as a casual fan, soO appears to be a sniper-like player in terms of face, at least.
