If LoL has like 60 million players each month and only gets 350,000 viewers, isn't that still 7 times what SC2 gets? Why wouldn't LoL just start selling ad space right in the game client youtube style. I think the point that TB and others are trying to make (i think, sorry if i am wrong) is that the 100K SC2 viewers are better or at least equal to 300K LoL viewers because they are a lot if you take into account how many (or less) people play the game. Right now eSport is in a problematic transfer state between a little nerdy thing with big, risky money and a legit business. To get to that next step you need people to watch that don´t play the game and by the numbers SC2 is doing a way better job at this than LoL. Also you are looking into consistency and predictability. Yes SC2 is smaller but is the only running, still developing and supported economy based eSport RTS which gives a stable base on viewers. LoL on the other hand can be "riskier" to invest long term money into it. I am not saying it will go away or it is a bad game but if you look at it there are dangers for it. First it is not unique, Dota HoN or Heroes of the Storm share the same setting and mechanic. So what happens if "HotS" is super successful for some reason? Their players will most likely come from LoL rather than from the "less colorful" Dota or the "its a different game" SC2. Also the F2P market is extremely mobile in terms of popular things. Ask Zynga they were the "next big thing" gamingwise a couple of years ago and now... it didn´t went very well. Or flappybirds. Or Candycrush. What i want to say is that RIOT has a way tougher job than blizzard because their players will go away faster if they screw up. I don´t have access to detailed numbers but i think the people setting up these tournaments aren´t unhappy about the current state of SC2 especially because it seems to attract a different kind of audience to your shows than LoL, CS or Dota which your sponsors love.

Edit: Looks like he is pretty much guaranteed a spot at the Global finals now. That's money. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2014_StarCraft_II_World_Championship_Series/Standings

And considering fact that this year tournaments cost way more than last time, everything can be changed 100 times, especially by those Koreans like Stardust, Hyun and other who spend time on foreign soil. But if sOs/herO wins this season of Code S, then i agree, it's pretty much guaranteed spot even if they go and spend other 5 months on Maldives or somewhere like that.

I dunno, we don't have season finals these year so a lot of points have been taken away so the cutoff will likely be lower. Even if they lose in Ro8 this season, as long as they don't bomb in season 2, they are probably in.

Only guy on who i could bet my money in Code S was Soulkey but even he bombed before Ro8 this time. And sOs, as much as i love him, you can't play as godlike as he always. Just look. We will have bunch of Dreamhacks, bunch of IEMs, MLG Anaheim, what else. HomeStory Cups, some other tournaments + 2 seasons of WCS with this season not finished as well. Tons of points but i guess, there will be same or close to same pattern this year - ~3000-3300 points
