I guess I have a bit of an annoyance regarding Toodoming, because Drunkenboi did that incredible adaptation to his style in game 2 of their series and made Toodoming look like a fool. Then it was like Drunkenboi completely forgot the lesson he had just learned in game 1 and handed the next two games to his opponent with inexplicably poor early-game defense that set up an unwinnable midgame. I felt like I was watching Hyvaa, and that's never a zerg style I enjoy cheering for.

That's very true, Heart really did have the center locked down. His build really played well to the map, taking the center with his tanks.

I don't know offhand but WCS AM viewership I feel was pretty low last year. Yesterday it got up to around 20k and I anticipate we get close to the same once Scarlett is playing.

It's better for TvP, because you can deny mining and you have high ground advantage to use vikings v colossi and ghosts v templar. Plus you can kite back to that narrow bridge which sucks for chargelots.

That was actually impressive by Tm, I think the reason the midgame looked so tough is because he was keeping up with his transitions and made 3/3 and ultras

He also didn't stall on lair tech for that long which is what a lot of zergs do.

This will probably force out a lot of awesome micro from the opponent. Great addition for LotV!
In my experience this build is hit or miss at my level and for pros. At my level it fails sometimes because people make a shit ton of roaches for no reason and block their natural and sometimes it outright wins the game, at pro level it fails sometimes because of good queen control and positioning and sometimes it almost outright wins the game.

I really wanted to bet on Masa after I saw the lines for today, but I didn't find a site that supports paypal . He really isn't that much of an underdog in his current form.

Masa over-committed with bunkers, made like 5? The damage was done and all he had to do was macro up behind at his natural, preferabbly walling with his new barracks and creating a tight wall that lings can't get past.
Not securing natural wasn't good. But he did great damage with his drops and had a lead - more drops would be the way to go; there were not mutas in play.

I'd like to see Masa not do the cheesy stuff, the macro game went very well for him in the first game. The cheeky factory tucked in his base worked so well for him, I think he'd do better with stuff like that.

I'm a passionate fan, but I realize that in a game both players are trying to win, and when one player beats the other they don't deserve hatred. If one player always cheeses or something I guess there's something there but you're just hating people for doing their job lol
Scarlett spawns in the top left MaSa spawns in the top right
1:00 Oh hey, Masa's proxy two rax'ing the wrong main.
2:00 Hatchery first followed by a spawning pool for Scarlett. 3 SCVs pulled for a bunker. Scarlett pulls a ton of workers.
3:00 Bunker in scarlett's natural. Scarlett getting a spine crawler. Lings finish and cancel the bunker on top of the ramp.
4:00 Masa rebuilding the bunker already. Spine crawler finishes and is repositioned. Masa is forced to evacuate the top of the ramp.
5:00 Masa getting another CC. Another bunker, further from the ramp. First bunker is salvaged. Scarlett getting a second extractor.
7:00 Scarlett 49 vs MaSa 31 Lair for Scarlett. Masa behind 19 workers to 32. Third CC for Masa finishing up.
8:00 Scarlett 60 vs MaSa 41 Spire for Scarlett. Masa getting a factory. The bunker for Masa is still outside Scarlett's natural expansion. A marine is in it. Evolution chambers for Scarlett, two of them. Hellions and marines being produced.
9:00 Scarlett 75 vs MaSa 58 Masa getting combat shields. Scarlett upgrading +1/1 and +1 flier attacks. Scarlett starting up mutalisks. Masa getting an engineering bay. Scarlett broke the bunker and took a third base.
10:00 Scarlett 87 vs MaSa 84 Baneling nest for Scarlett. Mutalisks going for the main. Scarlett starts up 11 more drones.
11:00 Scarlett 100 vs MaSa 86 Stim and +1 for Masa. Scarlett killing 7 workers with the mutalisks despite marines and good reactions. Lots of hellions and marines moving out. Stim and +1 attack are half done.
12:00 Scarlett 111 vs MaSa 106 Masa pushing up onto the high ground above Scarlett's third base. Baneling speed is mostly done. +2 melee attack starting up for Scarlett.
13:00 Scarlett 126 vs MaSa 117 +2/2 for Scarlett. Stim not finished for Masa. Scarlett engages the army of Masa and kills it.
14:00 Scarlett 141 vs MaSa 78 Masa getting widow mines. Mutalisks flying into the main. Scarlett taking her fourth base. Masa getting an armory. Banelings being morphed below Masa's third base.
15:00 Scarlett 175 vs MaSa 129 Scarlett moving into the third with banelings but not killing much. Hive for Scarlett. A macro hatchery being built. Mutalisks are still being active around the map. +1/1 finishing for Masa.
16:00 Scarlett 188 vs MaSa 153 Mutalisks get repelled from the main of Masa. Masa loses a bunch of marines to banelings in his third base. Masa getting a thor.
17:00 Scarlett 189 vs MaSa 165 23 banelings in production. +1 flier armor on the way. Scarlett taking a 5th. Scarlett moving into the third of Masa.
18:00 Scarlett 177 vs MaSa 170 Masa not bothering to micro against the banelings of Scarlett for some reason. Masa manages to hold it off with heavy losses, but keeps the OC. Masa pushing now. Scarlett getting 3/3 and adrenal glands.
19:00 Scarlett 177 vs MaSa 133 Masa pushes but doesn't get much done. Masa GG's! Scarlett wins 2-1!

That's the ZvT the stormtroopers were looking for. On to the winner's match now.
Masa must be so awkward to play against, he's like the zero fucks given terran, he'll do anything. Heart is better but more standard and predictable I think.

Game 2 of Toodming vs Heart was good, the other two were kind of beatdowns. I'd recommend games 1 and 2 of Masa vs Scarlett

His job is to win games. He got matched against Scarlett not by choice but by the draw. He played to win in those games. He won one out of 3. Therefore you hate him because he tried his best to win and succeeded 33.333% of the time. Therefore you hate him for trying to do his job. Logic

I don't know if it blind fanaticism I think there is good reason to be a fan of Scarlett.
I know I should be supportive and happy of whoever wins but some times...just have to be a fanboy and unleash the passion

Masa pulled all the stops, 2 factory brue frame, bunker rush, another bunker rush. It was pretty clear he had limited interest in a standard game. Can't fault him for it.

I STILL am not a Nestea fan because of GSL Open season 2. I mean sure, I have a shrine built to him which I worship at to avoid being consumed in a black hole that he creates for the non-believers when the day of his judgement comes... BUT, I'm still bummed that he beat MKP in game seven.

It does transition well but if scouted and held well you are open to a massive 1-1 roach attack that is very likely to kill you because you used the techlab factory in order to make hellions over tanks.

Actually I don't hate any players, My "hate" lasts for about 5 minutes when they beat a player I like. I find it fires me up and gets me more interested for the rest of the series

His job is to win games. He got matched against Scarlett not by choice but by the draw. He played to win in those games. He won one out of 3. Therefore you hate him because he tried his best to win and succeeded 33.333% of the time. Therefore you hate him for trying to do his job. Logic

It wasn't that long ago that Heart was known as the epitome of a cheesy, 1 base all in Terran who had a surprisingly solid macro game on the very rare occasion that he pulled it out.

Remember when tournaments had fucking horrible map pools? There have been worse tournament maps than this but close spawn Shattered Temple at BLIZZCON was god awful.

That was a great game. Heart played extremely well. We were just one successful ling runby and a slightly more cost effective defense by Scarlett from a sick late game clash but this was awesome too
Scarlett was in a good position against that push but she kept suiciding units on Heart's army and widow mines and effectively threw it away. She looks off her game some.

People definitely seem to pull it out against her more often than against others. She gets cheesed a lot in general really. Time for her to start mixing in a lot of 10 pools!

I think you pull when they use 2-3 scvs, when they pull more than that, you sac it and bane bust.
Heart reminded me in this series of the old MVP. Excellent build and execution playing to the map in game 1 and a perfectly executed 2 Rax for the killing blow. Brilliant.

It isn't easy to execute it, and it's oftenly risky, especially against fast speed openers with a fast expand. And of course, those classic overlord scouts that passes on the raxes saying "Hi!"

You don't get lings out in time to stop the bunker and if the terran micros scvs/marines properly too many drones will die if you try to fight with drones.

A lot of it depends on space and overlord scout timing. Like on this map, proxy 11/11 is tronger cause of how the ramp nat is shaped and the close distance and the overlord scout isnt fast enough to reactively make a 15 pool (The ideal pool timing to defend a 11/11 if you hatch first).

Toodming is not good at late game versus terran from what I've seen. He seems to get worse as the game goes on, although he is playing better today that he did in challenger

Very rare to see this type of ZvT. Masa should have started doing marauder drops as soon as the mutas went down and he'd have won I feel like. It's really hard to defend against 3/3 marauder drops without air units.

Toodming had a LOT of banelings in each engagement and Masa, after about 14 minutes just didn't have anything to deal with them. Then once the infestors got added, Masa started to slowly get squeezed out. His macro was just amazing that game though.

honestly i think the WM nerf made it a lot more viable to transition into hive as zerg for these late game situations. before the nerf, even if zerg made hive he normally would have been taking bad fights and economic damage while trying to morph brood lords, manage infestors, etc.
maybe masa could have done more with mobility, but i think the lategame terran marine train is a little less scary with the options zerg now has to play the game out differently

Her zvz vs Kane was awesome too recently, tho lost she did a fantastic job with the awesome macro. I think she has the edge here. If she gets to endgame

scarlett's hydra tech wasn't in the fight and fungal is irrelevant if you don't have a good position. you think roach/infestor should beat mass roach with a full surround? fungal doesn't beat roaches because of damage, it's more to let you divide and conquer the army

it's legitimate to complain if one strategy is too strong in a mirror matchup (muta vs muta before spore buff, tvt hellbat drops before nerf, etc), but in this case the person complaining was just factually wrong
Toodming played excellent tactical ZvZ, which is exactly the way to play that matchup when you're practically even. Pity for Scarlett's loss but Toodming certainly deserved to advance. I don't know about his chances when he starts running into more Korean players though besides Heart.

I hoped that between playing the game of the year against bomber and then getting embarrassed by Naniwa she'd take time off and be more motivated but alas...
After Red Bull she also did really well at IEM Singapore and ASUS Northcon, but recently in MLG Gameon (even though she won), Ender's tournament, and now WCS America it doesn't look too good. Personally I won't be too heartbroken if she decides it's time to move on. In HotS she already made history with Ro8 at WCS season final and IEM Singapore, semi at WCS Am, 3rd at Red Bull and RSL V, 2nd at Northcon, but I still believe that she can take a premier tournament this year.

Man, that is dissappointing. I wanted at least one canadian hope to come out. Canada's been sucking at everything lately. I hope scarlett can get out of this little funk here soon, I hate to see her drop out again. I also thought Masa would do well, considering he just won that ender's game thing. This was just the worst to come home too. I need to stop being so nationalistic.

Super torn. I was torn the moment Scarlett lost to Heart. Win-win was out the window from that moment on.
Seeing Naniwa and Scarlett out so early is pretty sucky. But I think they will be back. If anything this gives Scarlett time to heal up her wrists. Naniwa...is either A. Korean Killer mode B. randomly loses to no one. I really hope this WCS has more foreign champions. Maybe HuK will win his group. We already know this is the year of the horse though so I expect Liquid's players will do amazing work this year in WCS.

Well, Naniwa is most expected. He has the most erratic styles. One day he perfects the Protoss abuse, the next day some random no name makes him look like a ladder player. If his spirit isnt crushed and he isnt too depressed about living all alone in Sweden then chances are by summer time he'll randomly invent some other super powerful series of all ins and be back at it. Scarlett, i am more worried. After that glorious display at the Red Bull tournament she has been trending down. Ya I mean, whatever makes her happy but I too would like to see her win a major tournament before she hangs em up. She always seems to be the cusp of it too.

I don't think there is reason to be worried about Scarlett. She just needs higher caliber practice, and going to Korea is the best decision acer made for that.
This happens to every athlete, in every sport - where they reach a plateau that needs a change in training methodology for further progression; esports is no different.
Naniwa mentioned personal problems that eat into his playtime and focus though. His situation is more difficult.

Decent chinese scene regular. With Scarlett´s recent performances at NA-only tournaments, it was sure, that he woould be dangerous to her, I did´nt expect a 2-0, though. But it´s nice for my LB, so I´m not complaining.
oh man after masa won this tournament and scarlett is probably the second best foreigner i thought at least one of them would advance, really sad results considering what i expected all credit to toodming for this enagement in game two though
Meh, Scarlett and Naniwa, who needs 'em? State is all we need! State to become the new foreign hope after he carries Prime to and through the play-offs, killing many a FPL on his way by smashing their anti-teams.

I didn't watch this WCS because I was sure that Scarlett was going to make it, since ZvT is supposedly the best match up for Scarlett. I come to TL this morning in shock in how many games Scarlett lost. I'll definitely have to go back at watch the series.
