Two GSL style groups with four players each. Two players from each group will advance to the RO4 playoff. Both groups will play at the same time and will be shown on separate streams.
Each game in the group play will be a BO3, semi-finals will be a BO5 and the final match will be a BO7.
The top 6 players ranking players on the Starbow Ladder (3 from NA and 3 from EU) will be invited to participate in a tournament to determine who will qualify for the final 8th seed in the Starbow Invitational Tournament.
The third and second place ladder seed will play each other in a BO3, with the winner of that series advancing to play the first place seed. The winners of each region will then play each other in a BO5 series.
If a player is unavailable or fails to turn up, their position will be offered to the next lowest player on the ladder.
EU Qualification Deadline: Thursday, Feb 27 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
NA Qualification Deadline: Friday, Feb 28 3:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)
We would like to thank everyone who generously donated towards the prize pool and helped make this tournament happen, Twitch and Razer for sponsoring this event and a big shoutout to Joshua Parsley for making the hype video.
Click here if you would like to learn more about Starbow and the Eros Matchmaking service.
I feel like this should be at least a 16 man tournament. Especially if the prize pool starts to grow. Definitely would like to see a bunch of Bo3's and bo5's as well. Maybe bo7 grand final too
Have you considered having a qualifier or 2? might be interesting. Seems like quite a few people who were quite good at BW have started playing, but aren't very well known.

There kind of are qualifiers, you can play in the other starbow tourneys, I am sure if you can defeat beastyqt in an ESL tourney they consider to invite you/them.
However, 1 spot for a qualified player would be a really neat idea, I concur.
Soooo this is probably ont the place for this question...but...

I am really looking forward to this. Impact and Innovation have the highest chance of winning this I think, but all of these are great Starbow players. I expect epic games.
Would be good to get TotalBiscuit casting these, it would be pretty epic but oh well, still great tourney.

Is there ladder already in? I am not up to date lately
from op:
"We are trying to get the Starbow ladder up and running sometime next week. If we can get that then the last player will be the person with highest ranking Thursday the 20th of Feb at 21:00 (9 pm) CET.
If the ladder has to be postponed then we will simply invite a 8th player."

I think part of it is that this mod has developers that actually listens to their community and are dedicated to creating a balanced and playable game.
SC2 developers? Not so much.
I predict that it wont stay nice like this for very long though once parts of the big imbecile mass moves over to Starbow and can't deal with real siege tanks, proper mines and whatnot.

On that note, can we change the "tips of the day" on the starbow maps? I think I currently saw that they were the same as the SC2 tips, but it's too bad since the map loading screen is a good way to communicate general info.

The thing is, you play custom games. You invite people into a game, we are all in a chat-channel. If you behave like your normal SC2 piece of shit, nobody will want to play with you anymore. It kinda happened already, that a certain guy who was always whining got ripped a new one in chat after he was whining YET AGAIN :p

I thought Nerchio won the Acer tournament? I'd think that he is strong than some of the players listed. Goody has also participated in the regularly, but I don't see them inviting him with already three terrans in.
We are also looking for casters for the qualifier event on Friday (see OP). PM me if you are interested.
You may promote your own twitch channel during the cast but we would like you to cast it on our channel (www.twitch.tv/SC2_Starbow I can get you a key for the day).

They both seem to like the game alot. Anything is possible.
Also you guys should consider inviting people like Tasteless, Artosis, Idra, Day9 etc to a Starbow tournament of some kind in the future as players. I'm sure it would be a blast and a nice PR move.

I think the idea is to arrange a tournament at the end of each ladder season, and then invite the top ranking players from each server. That seems like the most democratic approach.
But that doesn't stop other people from creating their own Starbow tournaments.
When is this? I love TL, but they sure do make it tough to find Starbow events on the Schedule, and I would love for Starbow streamers to have a separate section in the stream list (like LoL does). I would like to watch Starbow with the little free time I have, but I always waste so much time trying to find where to watch it

I mentioned this in the Starbow thread earlier. TL isn't actively trying to suppress Starbow, but they sure as hell aren't very supportive of it either. Which doesn't make much sense from a business perspective. After all, more Starbow players means more people playing SC2 as well and more visits to this site. And new customers. Diversity in business is a good thing!

It's in the tl.net calendar. Both the qualifier and the main event. They are supporting this just fine.

You cannot really expect them to support it like they do Sc2 or Dota or LoL. Then each Arcade map can ask the same treatment. Once Starbow becomes big TL will do their part. And Starbow can become really big because it is Free2Play. That info just needs to be aggressively spread around and much better explanation of setup for using matchmaking needs to be done as well as some more streamlining of the whole process (but I expect this will all improve in the future).
But above all, Starbow needs top players regularly playing it and giving balance feedback. This part is critical, it is almost pointless to ask us about balance changes, the rest of us can only say if something is fun or not.
this sounds really cool. i don't play the game myself (not playing SC2 as well) but im spending a lot of time watching. i once saw a game of SB on Basetrade stream and it looked so much better then SC2. it will be very nice if you will add a newbie stream for people like me who knows nothing about this game.

I got one suggestion. Instead of these big tournaments, it would be a better idea to have a weekly tournament where winner gets 50$ and either have it open to all players or have it be invite only and formed by top 8 players from NA and top 8 from EU (and if those don't want to participate just go down the ladder until you have 16 players). This would make is easier to have the prize pool, it would create a weekly tournament AND it would bring more people to play the ladder. This is similar to what ESL did for ages in EU and lots of players loved to participate.

I really like this idea. To make it work, would the ladder have to be reset every week?

Big tournaments are much more efficient at getting the word out and increasing popularity.
Grass roots is also important too, but without anything to strive for not many people will wanna get into this. People will see that the pros are playing it, which will make them more motivated to play. Grass roots Captains Mode support is pretty bad in Dota, but look how popular it is.
This is interesting. Havent watched much starcraft (switched to dota) but i will try to watch this. One sugestion though, regarding the logo. The bow in the logo looks like the letter B so the logo would be more interesting if the bow replace the b. Of course if would need a bit of work (if you just erase the b if doesnt look quite right). I think that making the first letter bigger (the S) the rest smaller except for the bow which would have the same size as the S. Something like, i think could look pretty cool.
Looks like I"ll have to tune in. It's been a while. Looking forward to this. I've only seen one or two games that were casted by Husky. As I never played BroodWar, it's nice to see what people were (and are) hyped up about. :D Looking forward to it!

Good idea, replacing the B with a bow.

Any chance one of the guys in the qualifiers can win the whole thing?

Well, it's definely possible for these guys to defeat foreigners, and as for koreans, we should hope that the deeper knowledge of Starbow can outmatch the mechanical skill, but chances here are very slim in that regard.

im getting excited ;D Ive had the feeling that all "showmatches" that were supposed to show Starbow to the ones that havent tried it yet were boring matches where either one or none of the players had any experience. ;x
This is a mod of the current SC2 with units from BroodWar blows my mind. I know that BroodWar is still probably the most popular RTS of all time, with SC2 in a close second. But the time and effort that went in to putting this mod together, creating a ladder, canvasing for sponsors and donations for a prize pool, and getting some sick good players involved hints at the deep connections to this game that so many people have. It is not just a trip of nostalgia because it has been upgraded with better graphics, game mechanics, and maps!
Just started watching and enjoying the games. Though I have to mute the audio due to how terrible the quality is. Hopefully they can get that fixed asap.
Hey, I was wondering if for the next tournaments, can you say "Starbow Mod" instead of "Starbow" in the title so people viewing it on the front page (if it is on front page again) are more likely to realize that it isn't a HotS tournament?

Dat groups, btw. My hopes are on Beasty, if TT1 or rsvp would be able to pull it out from the group B it would be a huuuge upset. Hope rsvp will stick with his sentinel play, I doubt he will be able to outplay Inno/Ryung in BW style.

WHAT? rsvp was an amazing player in early wol and a constant presence in TL forums (and my all-time favorite streamer). I think he stepped back from the game due to IRL commitments, but every once in awhile he comes back to dominate (like his hots run to qualify for the first shoutcraft america).
Very intelligent players and I think that he shines in unknown metagames when he figures out thinks earlier than everyone else. His PvZ in wol in particular was months ahead of everyone else strategy-wise.

Ryung microed against banelings while the lurkers were running and then Ryung microed against the lurkers when the banelings focused down the bunker... seemed like pretty standard micro for a Terran. He never had to split vs. banelings and dodge lurker spikes at the same time.
Well, that was pretty disappointing, seems that Impact didn't know that Banelings do less damage against Buildings than in SC2... It was pretty terrible.

yeah. Also I think zerglings would have been better in that situation to begin with, since midcombat he realized that he cannot even use his banelings to attack the MM and in the end, he lost with lurker/baneling against someone who had like 10marines at the start of the combat since the zerg units hardly got to attack at all.

Nerfings mech "prevent fun stuff from occuring"-unit and buffings mech mobility (offensive harass unit) is imo a nobrainer.

Not really the type of stuff I enjoy. Not a real fan of clustfuck games in SC2, the game just doesn't spread out enough to make that fun like it was in the last game, since in Sbow both players had a ton of bases and killing one mineral line isnt dramatic. Instead you create scenarios in which people get to harass and win without taking risks in SC2, since they do it off 2bases and only expand once the opponent is too occupied to strike back at all (since you are able to attack/harass an opponent that is already taking damage only defending the tiny area of 2bases).
mech ruining fun is just issue with mech overall, in every match up in every game. sure it often spices up bio play and aggresive mech play is fantastic to watch but most of the time, its just stalling until you get to the deathball.
marine/tank TvT though... that's where the fun is
e: ok i guess those games instead of being dull are fucking sick, i havent seen a TvT like this since Innovation vs Flash on Whirlwind during that one MLG. this is absolutely the sickest :O

What do you mean? They didn't spread out in G1 very much. Neither player barely ever secured a 4th base in a 30 minute game.

The first two games of Ryung vs Innovation (from the group stages) was the same basically.
In Sc2, it can bascially never be like that as the strenght of mech relies on preveneting anything from happeneing and then massing OC's, suicidng workers and getting a shitton of Ravens. The supporte mobile option for mech is absolutely terrible in Sc2. I think they intentionally made the Hellion really bad due to the introduciton of the Mule + reactor. But IMO that could ahve been solved by giving it some type of midgame upgrade (or just removing the mule, that macromechanic is absolutely terrible for gameplay as well).
I am just disappointed in last game of Impact vs. Ryung :S And was sleepy so didn't watch the finals, but I will definitely check the VODs. Did TotalBiscuit stay until the very end?
I wish Crank would've stopped goin Sentinel opener when Innovation clearly knew the perfect counter to it. =( He pretty much didn't go for even 1 solid BW macro game against Innovation I think..but that's prolly cuz he'd get outclassed :
and it was late in the night for them so they started playing some allin tactics, more than an average viewer would like. But finals were long and fun with lots of crazy dropping that you don't see in HotS.
I know one of the streams had 3000+ viewers while other had about 1000, but I read other people saying it peaked at about 5000.
If someone want's to make a spoiler free VOD list by using http://www.reddit.com/r/SpoilerFreeSC or something similar then be my guest Let me know, ofc, so I can add it to OP / liquipedia.
