Overview: Hello Team Liquid! I am excited to announce the first (hopefully of many) Retro Map Championship hosted by Surreal gaming! We’re a small for fun team that has been around since the release of Wings of Liberty who are passionate about Starcraft 2 and want to see a great tournament on the maps we have loved throughout the years. To do this we have put in our own money in for a prize to go to the top 3 players of this tournament!
Basic requirements: must be a top ranked master or gm player on the North America server. Players must be active on the NA ladder. Any proven instances of manipulating the ladder such as hacking/account boosting will result in immediate disqualification from this tournament and any future events hosted by Surreal gaming. Players must play on an account with their real name or proven legal alias to participate. To sign up for the tournament send a message to me via skype @ Miserytheory , or email me @ mmonkhou@lakeheadu.ca as I will be making the brackets.
Format: The tournament will be a 32 man single elimination format. Each round will be a Best of 3 with the exception of the semi finals and the finals. The semi finals will be a best of 5 with 1 map veto for each player and the finals will be a best of 7 with 1 map veto per player.
Map pool: Xel Naga Caverns, Metalopolis, Terminus SE, Scrap Station, Shattered Temple, Shakuras Plateau, Blistering Sands, Delta Quadrant, Steppes of War
Prize Breakdown: First Place: $150.00
Second Place: $75.00
Third Place: $25.00
Total Prize pool : $250.00

Steppes of war is a must ! and also on scrap station i have some good memories, i was basically spawning banshees in oppoents base :D

Hope to do many more of these so if you don't see your favorite map don't fret!! We will probably have it in the next championship!!

Kulas Ravine is the definition of retro when it comes to SC2 maps. I remember watching that map in the battle reports before beta haha. Hope to see it in a future tournament! As bad of a map as it was it brings back good memories lol

Ohhhhh helll yessss! I miss Xel Naga oh so much I feel some of the newer maps are lacking a bit.. blizzard could do a better job with the ladder pool. C'mon map makers we need some cool new maps, step it up!

Wish Blizzard would do something like to their map pool for ladder, add one past map for 1-2 weeks and then rotate it to another old map. Give some sort of option in the Map Preferences to not play on the Old Maps for people not interested in playing the old maps... Wouldn't hurt, just be for fun...

It was quite a fun tournament, at the end Colter had some problems with the stream, but overall i enjoyed the tournament a lot ^^
And it was nice to see the players playing on those old maps, i actually learned a few things from the games, and i'll see if i can try to apply my ideas on my future maps, thanks for the stream guys!
