Sadly, winning this championship was the worst thing Dear could have done for his chances.

Plus he has the guy that 3-0'd Rain in the Season 2 finals as his first opponent. ;o

Who saw will never forget.

First guy to win his region (the hardest) and the finals. Double title hold is pretty impressive.

And Maru repeated his GSL run too, only losing to the eventual champion Dear and showing some really impressive games while doing so.

So Dear only just made challenger league in S2, and now wins S3 global finals. That means theres hope for all of us! In a few months YOU could win WCS.

People's expectations for Dear will be higher than they should be, I expect people to have tunnel vision and forget that there's 15 other really good players there.

But I don't think people will forget about Dear, and his results in 2014 will likely be pretty good.

In this world, we have two types of Protoss. The MCs and the Seeds.

LOL I never took another protoss seriously as taking over for MC until now and that includes when parting, seed, rain and other upstarts had their runs. Dear wont be figured out too dynamic.

The thing is you can't point to some gimmick he is relying on, Parting had Soultrain, SOS had the crazy DT zealot archon stargate timing weirdness, Hero is addicted to fancy plays and Rain is too predictable. Dear is just super solid with great macro/micro/decision making.

Yeah I mean if he'd won GSL he'd never have won here because people would have studied his play.

Hang on a second..

What was the peak viewership at? I think I saw at one point it was around 80k....did it ever get higher than that?

This and I also wonder how he will handle his success mentally.
He said he put a lot of efforts in his GSL win (and I assume in this one). How long can he keep on training like a madman like this?

I just want to watch Dear play Terrans (aggressive, drop-happy ones, which is all of them) all the way into the Grand finals. Dems make some good ass games.

His path to victory shall be Taeja > Alive > Maru/Innovation > MMA/Polt

Well, problem with Dear is that he kinda has help from PartinG, sOs and Rain and probably even some sort of HerO's playstyle study. So he ends up being to Korean toss what Maru is to Prime.

I disagree, Dear has shown that his play is very dynamic and can play on the fly with pretty damn good mechanics.

+ Just look at soulkey, soulkey was on the radar yet he's been placing ro8 and higher since 2012

That has happened to players in the past because in the past the best players had play that was innovative and changed the metagame. Stephanos roach max, Partings Soul Train, even the super safe solid play of Rain itself showed how you could play macro Protoss. Innovation's parade push ZvP, and on and on. Those were all things that got "figured out" by their peers. Dear doesn't do some build or strategy that needs figuring out, he just can do all the builds better than everyone else. He has sublime decision making and understanding of timings as well. This sounds like stuff we've heard for past guys, but I think he could be the next Mvp type player
PartinG fanboy to the max, Rain/Squirtle/Dear/Scarlett/Bbyong are cool too. I don't always watch Dota2 but when I do I have no clue what's going on. GOGO POWER RANGERS

The biggest issue with peak viewership with American tournaments is the finals are always on at such a bad time for Europe so the viewers always trail off

Taeja has great TvP, should be an awesome series. But Taeja is a master of ghosts, and actually likes going to late game, so it will be very different. I expect some cheese from Dear.

Could be. He just needs to maintain this form for another year or two.
