Eg. it's a comonly used acronym for teaching conjunctions: http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/conjunctions.htm I don't think it's overused. It has a separate meaning from "fan", which doesn't exist in non-internet language anymore. "Fan" is short for "fanatic", the original meaning of which was actually closer to how we use "fanboy". "Fan" just means supporter, these days.

Its kind of the job of the fans to praise the team/player at every cost and deny the fact that the opponent was better or whatever. Especially right after a loss which and we can write how we feel 1 sec after the game here in the forum. Thats fans, thats what they do and its a good part of sports (fans being vocal i mean). Fanboy sounds degrading to me, like they arent rly fans but 14 year old noobs who arent rly a fan. Maybe ive missunderstood the how the term fanboy is used. I see what you mean, it's definitely overused/used incorrectly on internet forums, but I don't think the phenomenon of irrational fans is unique to the internet at all. That said, for people who are dramatically "tuning out" because Jaedong lost I don't know of a better term. I'm a huge Jaedong fan but it's still silly to make such a melodramatic exit and make yourself known that way on forums. But I think it's probably mostly people in time zones that are bad for watching this so they'd rather just go to sleep anyway, which is reasonable.

Yeah, fanboyism can get ugly, but it's nice to see how SC2 can create such fanboyism. For better or for worse, fanboys create the spirit of the game, and that is a good thing imo.
