Player of the night This may or may not contain the results of one of the games. + Show Spoiler +
JKS - JKS deserves the spotlight for tonight as he was faced with an opponent who many may not have expected him to win but he showed no nerves and executed a perfect defense against an Immortal All-in.
FXO's got this. They can't lose to Prim-- err Soul :p
Seed and possibly Gumiho should prevent a 4-0, then Leenock and Hurricane should be very favored in their matches. If it goes to ace anything could happen.
Where's the Terrans Go Hurricane and Gumiho! (the rest of fxo too!)
edit: also surprised that fxo aren't starting Lucky. He finished off Soul in the all-kill round. I think it's worth giving him a spot over Tassadar or Seed (who went 0-3 last round).

The Terrans are obviously not part of eSF...
StarTale has Bomber, Hack, and SalvatioN AZUBU has Center, Neige, and SuperNova FXO has GuMiho and Kong SouL most likely has no Terrans because Last probably retired, he hasn't been seen since STX stopped sponsoring the team.
Bomber, Hack, Center, SuperNova, and GuMiho are most likely the only Terrans you'll see out of these.

Yeah, after IEM I was hoping to watch some terrans but no go But then neither of these teams actually have many terran players, so it's not unexpected. Does Last stil play for Soul? Don't think he's come out yet.

As far as I know, by this point we're just hoping he hasn't retired :o

David Kim took care of them. How dare them win some WCS tournaments! Must nerf them imediately!
You're expecting two teams, with barely any terrans to have terran matches? ._. FXO has always had few terrans, and with sC's retirement few days ago it's only Gumiho left.
It's like expecting a lot of Protoss matches from AxiomAcer vs Azubu, apart from Alicia/Vines they don't have any...

I like how Gumiho used the bases of WoL TvZ to shore up his early game aggression and defense and now that he has fast burrow for mines he goes back to HotS TvZ. It's actually an interesting transition.

Would be hilarious if Tassadar beats Dear now lol. reminds me of Wolf tweeting when Rain was ahead on Maru in OSL finals, saying Maru can only cheese and it won't work against Rain lol.
Holy fuck Tassadar almost won. Wow I could feel all of reality bending for a moment. Artosis was calling the right player to win, Jaedong was getting 1st, Inca only played macro games and for one moment I thought Nestea twitched in his sleep.

If Tassadar had just expanded after winning that battle in the middle he would have been in super good shape. But no, he had to blink onto a ramp with an immortal and a bunch of stalkers on top with a photon overcharge hitting him -_-.

I guess that even if he attacked at that moment, he just needed to go a bit further in the base to escape from the cannon nexus. He had already killed the immortal
What about players that never got played by their team? That could get ugly pretty fast. At least Tassadar is good enough to get off the bench and into the booth?

Tassadar is the worst player ever in GSTL. Like 3 times lol.
Wolf forgot about Inori and Jookto.
They're not still in the GSTL.
"worst player ever in GSTL"
I think Tassadar got more kills against TL than Inori and Jookto had in their combined careers.
if you're going just by record, then Miya was like 0-10?
In the background of this GSTL is a tale of two players: Fnatic RC's J and TSL's Inori. Both are constantly used in GSTL matches by their teams. Both can’t seem to win for the life of them. With his loss in last night’s GSTL, J is now 0 - 13. Inori hasn’t gotten a win in Gom studio’s for two years now. While Fnatic is eliminated and TSL is in the playoffs, this is a match that should and will inevitably happen.
Some rivalries happen because two players keep clashing against each other and create amazing games like Polt vs Stephano, or Seed vs Symbol. Other rivalries happen because of a group stage selection that was never forgiven, like Nada vs Keen. Some are just natural born enemies sworn to fight each other to the death like Inca vs detection.
In this case, it is a rivalry to escape the bottom. It is two players that have the complete faith from their teams despite having some of the largest losing streaks in SC2 history. This battle will finally answer the age old question, "What happens when a movable object meets a stoppable force?"

Well yea, but you have to get into the booth to be the worst GSTL player ever, although I'm pretty sure it's not Tassadar. I mean come on, we've had foreigners in GSTL....

A new one was at the top of the ramp, he blinked onto it and a bunch of blink stalkers, which meant that for that entire blink cooldown, his opponent could blink micro against him and he couldn't. Then there's the fact that his reinforcements were way off and were getting hit in the face when they finally caught up by the cannon, and that immortals were making non-stop. It was an awful attack and not a good timing, he should have expanded.

Well, that makes sense. Although there's been a few that have played exactly one game and lost that game. But were on the bench every week.

don't forget J who was worse than Jookto. Adds another solid 0 I believe.
Oh right, Luvsic. I confused him with Jookto. Jookto actually wasn't too bad. >_>
Poor guy, one of his teammates said he was great in practice games but could never play well in the booth.
for Jookto you had to watch out for him in the qualifiers. He was like the King of Code B for a while. Always losing in Round 1 Code A because of his nerves but requalifying all the time

YoungJoo taking up hyvaas slack, now Trap should win to get them 3 wins. After that it doesn't matter as Trap/Dear should be able to win ace match against anyone on FXO

JKS gets randomly strong wins in GSTL. So he has a chance. Not a high one, but it is within the realm of Nestea's Dream.

ThorZaIN beating Fruitdealer in the TSL was one of my favorite moments of SC2 ESPORTS, I'd love to have fruitdealer come back.

That was also the best interview ever done by anyone at any event.
Carmac asked Sangho what he thought of Fruitdealer.
Sangho being a close friend of Fruitdealer did not hold back and said, "Fruitdealer was once a great Zerg player, but he is lazy, drinks all of the time and is no longer good. His time has passed and he is just a relic of the past and wont stand a chance against me."

I dont know what it was, but the BO9 seemed so much more epic than the BO7...
B09 makes preparing snipers much more profitable, as you can afford to sacrifice a weaker player to take out a really strong player before they get going on a streak. Thus, teams would often field weaker players early to avoid having to deal with snipers, and you got some really weird but fun looking games.
In the B07, there's not much room for that, they just play their best players and that's it.

ergh, Trap why you should not be losing to players like JKS. Actually, you shouldn't be losing to anyone from FXO.
Really wish Dear/Trap would step up their play in GSTL ;x At least Dear won a game today ~~; Time to pray for a cheese or luck win so they can go to the ace.

Come on now, Gumiho or Leenock can definitely beat Trap. It doesn't even have to be a good day, on a normal day Trap could easily drop games to those two.

Hurricane can beat him too. Trap and Dear really aren't that great in GSTL. Hell Soul isn't in general. Even I expected more out of them.

I'd ignore it, he says the same stuff every time SouL play (and various kespa players). Hurricane could easily take them in a PvP as well.

so sad how STX Soul goes from champions of the biggest team league in Korea and maybe the world, to such an embarassing performance here in GSTL, must feel weird for the players... i feel as though they should have just stayed out of GSTL, these "makeshift" quick, lets form a small team for GSTL teams never do well, F. United was terrible, EGTL didn't do too well (I'm sure they weren't as makeshift) and Soul isnt doing too well here either.

In what way does that make him a failure? It just means he's not a good fantasy GSTL choice because his point value is too high, but he's always been super clutch for FXO in the team leagues.

Were they? Sorry I forgot, thought they didnt do too well , lookin back they went 2-3 in the GSTL. With a set record of 11-17. I remember the good ol' days of Moon beasting it up in GSTL
Yeah, watching Thorzain spoon it up was glorious!
Fenix had a random good night too, where he played this unbelievably long game against Clide on terminus. That was one of the longest gstl nights I can remember.

before today he only had 3 points, which is really bad for how expensive he was. probably the least cost efficient player right now fantasy wise before this win
In what way does that make him a failure? It just means he's not a good fantasy GSTL choice because his point value is too high, but he's always been super clutch for FXO in the team leagues.
EDIT: Oh, I guess I'm an archon now. Woot woot.
I suppose you just had understand the context then xD my post is talking strictly from a fantasy standpoint as you can see
NOBODY CALLS MY FXO HEROES A FAILURE! NOT NOBODY, NOT NOHOW.
(Okay, no biggie)
FXO has Seed and Tassadar, that must be a very long and tedious fight.
Oh those aren't the heroes, Gumiho, Hurricane and Leenock are.
I'd say Seed is pulling a Jjakji, only Jjajki is making a comeback. Tassadar has never been good.

not an unexpected result but I assumed SSanaEE would be the one doing something aggressive. Really the biggest fault lies with Trap -- though at least he didn't pull a Dear and manner nexus himself to death :3 Still, another disappointing series from Soul. They really need a solid terran since it seems Last doesn't play anymore.
I hope FXO can climb back into playoff contention and make things interesting. And by that, I mean FXO please field JKS and Lucky instead of Tassadar and Seed. I know they need to field one, but not both. pls.

Which team do you not want in the playoffs? AxiomAcer AZUBU or StarTale?
IMO they're the teams with the most entertaining players of the 5. :o

I didn't mean I want them in the playoffs necessarily, i just want them to be competitive. The end of the first round was 3 teams at 3-1, fxo at 1-3, and soul at 0-4. I just don't want that to repeat again. I want fxo, (and even soul I guess) to get in there and cause havoc. Crazy tiebreakers with mapscores and having playoffs come down to the final game, etc.
But, as long as Azubu makes it in I'll be happy :D
