That venue name is really funny (it's a german name).
But looking at the pics of the venue - do they really get this filled? Thought NA SC2 scene was pretty small.

So looking forward to the event! I wonder who the other invites are.

Bomber and Life are the only relevant ST players. Maybe Aphrodite as well. I doubt anyone else on the team has much of a fan base as those three.

Just noticed the dates for this...
The same weekend (Friday 22nd to be exact) that the Xbox One launches across the world. Im sure this is going to 1. Cause a few less viewers , but 2. (most importantly) the ability to be able to stream from Xbox One directly onto Twitch is sure as hell going to cause some lag issues? With how bad Twitch has been these past few months (especially) im going to be pretty sure this could turn into a lag fest and many people getting annoyed

Oh also, that is the week Call of Duty Ghosts comes out, so there will be defiantly a bunch of streamers from Xbox One directly onto Twitch xD

I want to pull the trigger and buy the tickets! Spending the night Saturday up in NYC is so expensive though! Any suggestions?

I will say too that I could simply head up each day on a train because I'm only in NJ.. it's still a couple hours.

Anyone have experience at this venue? It seems like the higher seats are more expensive... I don't understand that.

Orlando 2011 is far too long to last be at a live event. I must go.

the VIP seats are the balcony seats.
It gives the full view of the stage.
Also according to Redbull's description, they include Drink Tickets which i assume are drink vouchers and VIP Bar Access Im guessing private bar.

So there will be four qualifers and the four winners will be flown out to New York. Once there the four players will play another qualifier to see who gets into the main event? Or are all four winners getting a seed into the main event? Thanks.

I have beef with Red Bull. They have all this money yet they're still doing 8-man invitationals and looks at their premium pricing and yes I know the cost for such venues. The event could be much better and MLG pretty much gave them the space to orchestrate their event without overlap by not hosting another SC2 event at their major during the same time frame where they get more exposure. Go figure. Having a few qualifiers doesn't change the fact it's a shitty format for the players and they get limited exposure. Remember all those people complaining about building stars? This type of format is the opposite of that.

MLG Lan events are still above what Red Bull is doing. MLG are kind to not compete with Red Bull for SC2 viewers. I hope Red Bull hosts a legit event eventually.

I agree with you Starstruck, MLG events are better for exposure, and the event could be bigger. That being said they haven't been supporting the scene for too too long. Maybe they will change their events in the future, but we should be thankful for the awesome things they are doing now instead of questioning their commitment to the scene.

I think too that they are going for a more intimate type of setting, getting to know a few players really well as opposed to MLG's massive winners and loser's brackets where player's stories are unheard a good part of the time.
If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.

So there's going to be 16 people going to New York who will then fight for 4 spots in the tournament?

Ah, ok. So the "Qualifier 2" "Qualifier 3" and "Qualifier 4" tabs on Liquipedia are unnecessary.

Just tuned in and saw the creep spread. that's Scarlett all right.
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

Scarlett owes her fans and viewers an explanation and Apocalypse shouldn't let her be doing this then. Tournament qualifier rules shouldn't allow this and the games should be organized by a 3rd party regardless. This is pretty disorganized

She's right that according to the rules, Apocalypse should be DQ.

Where is the leadership? How is this such a shit show?Shouldn't team managers be advocating for their players and for the proper management of the tournaments their players participate in?

Why even have a locked American for legal residents if you are going to let a Korean on a tourist visa compete for that spot? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and is really disappointing. Especially considering all the American players that got knocked out of the qualifier because of this. And people wonder why hardly any NA pros are able to do anything because getting into any sort of tournament is a clusterfuck because of Koreans who can't compete in Korea coming here and taking up slots. Really upset about this and I hope they fix it, but I seriously doubt anything will happen. Sweet thanks Red Bull really organized tournament here.

Stupid legalities in the Quebec and Mexico hurting tournament organization.

Its pretty dumb tbh, I mean Apoc isn't a citizen and he is on a tourist Visa, he is basically on a long term vacation as far as contests are concerned. It sucks for him but honestly, he shouldnt have been playing in the first place.

Wasn't that the problem Demuslim had that prevented him from playing in NA qualifiers for a long time? Or did he just choose not to play? Doesn't seem consistent

But can you really blame him for entering the tournament? He IS currently in the country, and do the official rules state that "Competitors with xxxx visa are not eligible" or something to that effect? Admins/organizers need to take care of this. Can we really blame the player here?

@maaasked @Millgoswser they dont go through and approve each entry. he just sets his country to usa and voila he can play

Scarlett ‏@AcerScarlett 6m
which is really silly. it should have just been delayed if it cant be decided now

Scarlett ‏@AcerScarlett 6m
and the admin said that even if he is not allowed to play we still have to play the finals and it will be decided tomorrow whether he is dq

Scarlett ‏@AcerScarlett 6m
sorry i really shouldnt have done that in the finals ~_~ but im really frustrated and sick right now

we will know later if Apocalypse is DSQ or not

from my viewpoint:

Scarlett didn't handle things great during that final set. shame, but whatever, shit happens sometimes.

Apoc probably *shouldn't* have entered the tournament, but then again, it may have not been clear to him that he wasn't allowed to play in this, since he is at least temporarily in the country.. hope people don't randomly start hating on him because of this. It's up to the admins to make a decision on this, which sounds like they'll do tomorrow (if he is DQ'ed or not). Might be tricky, depending on what's in the official ruleset.

There's something more serious than it looks like. Inmigrants with tourist visa (B2 in the case of Apocalipse) are NOT allowed to work in the country. They do not have a social security number. Now, this guy is coming to play in the US. As far as I know, Apocalipse is really "working" by playing in the US. He is getting a retribution (WCS points, money etc) for doing a job (play). If we look at the context in sports, a football player is actually working when playing. He has that specify in his contract and is forced to pay TAXES. If e-Sports really want to big in NA, it has to set clear rules for all the foreigners that want to participate on their tournaments PERIOD

I thought he also sat out for a bunch of IEM qualifiers, too, but maybe I just confused myself.

I really, really would hate for ICE to actually decide to get interested in eSports. Because I have no idea how the visas work, and I guarantee you the ICE agents have no idea how eSports works. The idea of "on a tourist visa" and "taking part in a tournament" bothers me, because being in a tournament is work for the player. But unless it's an athlete visa, I have no idea what the specific restrictions and laws are regarding what type of visa vs. money making activity. (Example - Polt. I DO know what kind of Visas Polt would be on. I do not know how eSports would be classed as a money making enterprise.)

For the time being, and without getting competent immigration lawyers involved, I think I'd rather the current general state of ignorance remain. Because deep down, I'm deeply worried that the vast majority of players would find more onerous visa requirements if ICE and CBP thought about eSports. (Unless they go for the athlete visa, which I think is probably the best answer.)

Scarlett's the only NA player who really qualifies for the term "finest", and she's pretty severely on tilt at the moment, thanks to her sickness and her recent habit of not sleeping for multiple days in a row.

Thats exactly what im saying. The fact that one low-tier Korean can do so much damage is pathetic. Its not like he has any advantage over the other NA players.

Well of course I mean that on a highly abstract level - DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR ESPORTS REGARDING VISAS!

No question that in reality it won't be that easy, change hardly ever is easy. But if electronic sports want to be established and accepted, there also need to be clear rules regarding a player's legal requirement and under which status he is staying abroad to play for team x in region y.

When i talked to admins there was a few special permissions from rob simpson... That was what I was told when I asked the admins about apocalypse in the first qualifier when I had to face him. Then i had to face him in the round of 8 again in this qualifier. which he atleast won the rest of the qualifier.

also the rules do say "Legal" residents, and the term legal implies some form of documentation to be a resident. A visa, or just being in the country, does NOT make you a legal resident. A green card for example is the most common way one could become a legal resident, which he does not have. Also a student visa is also another common way. Which he then has to be full time. Ala Polts case. For those saying its not clearly defined, it really is by legal doctrine. However see my first paragraph....

in some peoples minds by going on to play the game she would be legitimizing the move (by apoc). if she really believed in her position they wouldnt play the game.

another reason they cant just play on and sort is later is because the more games that get played with 'rule breakers' in, the more work that needs to go in to fix it if scarlett is correct. so its in everyones best interest to just stop the bracket as soon as the complaint is made and resolve that asap rather than use resources to run a bracket that might be worthless.

and the precedent for this in esports is that the tournament will just say fuck you to the people who lost to the rule breaker and continue from where they are. both MLG and WCS have had cheaters play and when they removed them they refused to replay the bracket, even though it was completely affected. so if scarlett wants to do right by the people who could lose to apoc, or anyone, then she needs to put her foot down, because history isnt on the players side.

Can anyone explain the difference between General Admission and Floor Seating? Will I be doomed to stand the whole time if I get GA, or are there benefits to pay the extra money for Floor tickets ?

so true thats why I asked specifically about this in the first qualifier. And i was told he was eligible. I look forward to technically not being knocked out of qualifier #1 or #2, but they probably wont fix it if they decide to go back and reverse what I was told.

In summary, the entire top part of the bracket is invalidated by Apocalypse' participation if he is DQ'd (as he should be). Ideally the tournament organizers should've stopped this from happening and they did not.

For all the flames that have raged as a result of WCS not region locking, people are surprisingly quiet about an attempted region lock being circumvented.

It is disappointing that team managers aren't more vocal about this because it affects a lot more players than Scarlett.

Grab your pitchforks! Unfortunately, I can't find my "made in china" pitchfork.

On a more serious note... If they allowed Apoc to play and did not disqualify him, I don't see what's the problem. Redbull may have made a mistake, but once you make the mistake, you should honor it. It's not fair to Apoc to disqualify him now... Scarlett shouldn't go apeshit either. She might be mad, but it is not HER tournament, it's up to Redbull to make a decision before she decides to take matters into her own hands. I think both them should be disqualified.

you guys realize Apocalypse also played the first qualifier last Saturday? He only lost in the Ro16. 51 round before playing Scarlett if he had win)

he was already in the qualifier #2 the day before the Finals.

complaining about his participation before the finals was a bit late :/

Not sure whether the tourist visa thing matters.

http://www.immihelp.com/business-visa/permissible-prohibited-activities.html

according to this website you need a B-1 Visa but is SC2 considered a sport by the US Gov't?

i think the important thing to take away from this all is that scarlett has interacted more with fans/social media over the last 24 hours than she has in 3 months. the way for acer to build the scarlett brand is to piss her off constantly.

While I agree with you that her playing the game is legitimizing the move in a way, she was in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. If she didn't play the match it's extremely unlikely that they wouldn't just give apocalypse the boot and give her the spot. It's her profession, she has to do what she can to make money, and it's irresponsible of us as fans to accept that she would do something to lose money over making a stink about rules. If anything, I'd say it's more a responsibility of Acer management to rectify the issue on her behalf. They certainly would have more power over the tournament organizers than she would directly. Of course in my utopia the player speaking out would be the incorrect move, and it would be up to the organizers and the team to address it behind closed doors and then report it to us, which is kinda dumb too.

This is actually really interesting to me. I don't find any problem with it one way or another, but it's interesting. Scarlett is a very polarizing person based on the values of some people (not to get into right and wrong, that's not my point), so I understand a media-quiet attitude. She's likely the most popular foreigner right now though and that's with an extremely small amount of interaction. I'm not drawing any conclusions, it's just interesting to me.

but it defeats the whole purpose of a region qualifyer if you let one guy slide in. it would be unfair for all the other koreans and unfair for the region itself. on both points of views the other koreans would be like, "How come apoc got special treatment?". just cause he has a temp visa doesnt qualify. 80% of the other koreans can have a temp visa. I dont see how exiling mexico and quebec and then letting 1 korean slide is appropriate.heres another point of view. IEM had a 3 region qualifyer, and so did HSC. Do you see a player multi playing these tournaments? no because they are not in their respected regions. I can easily play in EU cause the lag isnt that bad, doesn't mean I'm going to part take in that region qualifyer. by letting a person slide in cause of a temp visa is defeating the purpose of region qualifyers, (cause i can go ahead and get a temp visa to somewhere in EU and win a qualifer and say I have a temp visa and I was planning to reside here in 2 weeks from now.) you might as well make it open so there be less people complaining.

She expanded on her thoughts here. http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1rqbrfm

I'm a scarlett fan but can't defend what she pulled yesterday. She definitely has no tact in the way she handles things a lot of times, but the bottom line is she didn't do this because apoc shouldn't play. She did this cause she felt her skype chat buddies got screwed. She makes the argument that polt should be allowed to play cause he's going to school here, but is adamant about apoc not being allowed to play because he's not a legal resident or staying here long term. Well it doesn't matter if polt is going to school here because he's not a legal resident either, but because she's buddies with polt and not apoc she pulls a protest against him.

Scarlett made a bad decision and fell on her sword and looked bad for the sake of her skype buddies. They should be ashamed and apologize to her for allowing herself to look bad for their sake. One of them should have talked some sense into her and told her not to do what she did last night for their sake. Given goswser's bm history I am not surprised to see he's one of the root causes of the issues last night. I blame her skype buddies more than her for the decisions she made last night.

Apoc broke the rules and so far no one had done anything about it, this created enough drama that it is much more likely to be looked at than before. Obviously not the most diplomatic way to do this, but I doubt it will have any long-term negative effect on her reputation or popularity. In fact, it might improve her reputation in the foreign scene, standing up for the small guy against Koreans who fly over for a weekend to attend a tournament not designed for them.

I disagree with your judgement, she was pissed-off because someone on a tourist visa plays in an NA-only qualifier. That is a whole kettle of fish different than someone who actually lives in the US, and has been living there for over a year. There's different shades of grey here, obviously, but I think that the distinction tourist visa vs. student and living in the US is quite large.
I also don't really see if she would have responded differently if it would have been some other genuine NA player that would have been knocked-out, and she would have known about it. You're reading too much in the 'skype buddy' thing, and are drawing quite tentative conclusions about it.

I wasn't really professional what she did, but when she would have just played the matches and made a fuzz on twitter about it, the admins would have said 'ah well, too bad, too late now'.

Regarding recent things happening with IEM (spots from the NA qualifier going to some Korean instead of 2nd place NA, 2 spots from EU qualifiers going to Koreans - screwing over Illusion, Grubby and Nercio, and no explanation from IEM about this, despite promises), I can fully understand that players are getting pissed-off when Koreans on a tourist visa are getting NA- and EU-reserved spots.

I can understand a player getting pissed off too. I cannot accept a player getting angry and pissing on the competition because they're mad. I said it in the other thread, but we cannot demand professionalism while accepting unprofessional actions. There are tactful ways to get your point across, and those methods are often infinitely more effective at convincing others that you are correct.

If anyone was pissing on the competition, it was Red Bull themselves. And they were the ones being unprofessional to begin with.

What Scarlett did was in my view a last resort measure, and a necessary one. I don't care one bit that she didn't play those last games properly and that they weren't casted. They were worthless games anyway, games that shouldn't even have been played in the first place. Better that she use them to create a bit of drama to avoid being tread on, and the whole matter being swept under the rug.

This is tournaments screwing players over (see my examples above, but also look at the DeMuslim WCS NA idiocy, among other things), and when they get called out it is 'ah well, can't do anything now, now can we'.
This was the only thing to force a reaction from a tournament, otherwise they would use the German DELLE principle, which resolves issues by not talking about them and just lets them be. (DELLE stands for 'Durch Einfach Liegen Lassen Erledigen')
Sometimes bold moves are necessary, and since tournament organizers appear to screw-over local scenes left-and-right, and not really give a fuck, maybe it was time for a wake-up call. At least this time people are talking about it and forcing a response, unlike WCS and IEM.

Good response, they did the right thing!
However, did they just reveal the player codes of all players in the tournament?

The players that are eligible to replay their matches are Swift.204, itsme.221, IIIIIIIIIIII.2756, MaSsan.537, KiFirE.972, Goswser.105, and AvrilLavigne.258. These replays will be scheduled to begin tonight at 5:00 PM PDT and must conclude before the start of Qualifier #3 on Saturday, October 26th. CEVO will do our best to accommodate any scheduling conflicts of these players.

Scarlett s.c. are probably really happy about that...

it as the right decision. glad to see they tried to correct it which afaik isn't very common among tournaments.
with all red bull being doing lately with these tournaments and the map contests im going to buy my first red bull ever
and I think it's also important to state that noone if this was Acopalypse fault as he thought he was allowed to compete (misinformed by management?) and fully accepted the desicion afterwards.

It might be rather difficult, because the new games aren't being done at set times; rather, players are being asked to get them done independently. It would be nice to see the new finals though, maybe they can work something out for that!

I understand quebec is always screwed on contests here in canada, but I've never seen them barred from an online qualifier in sc2 before. What makes redbull's qualifier different from other qualifiers like ipl, mlg, etc that quebec is barred from it?

You can never tell whether you are in or out or whatever....And if this happens to someone like me who speaks english fluently god only can only imagine the pain for koreans.

Didn't see it mentioned here, but HyuN got the first spot in the second part of the global qualifiers. So far we have two TSL Zergs in that bracket.

Yeah, they're doing really well right now. It sucks to lose but when you beat that many great players, that's an achievement

With luck, they'll hire some European audio technicians for this one. *Sigh*
Hopefully it'll be good fun!
Only knowing half of the players for such a small tournament is a little disappointing, as it's only the size of a small invitational anyway, but then I suppose it'll excite some people with suspense. I prefer build-up of excitement due to knowing ahead of time though.

Wee Sora barely pulls through. The usual stomp of any T and Z, but struggle vs any protoss (no diss on Trust but well...).

Edit: nvm according to the official brackets he took some other losses too, it's just wikipedia not showing them.

Well, maybe "rivalry" is not right word. I meant that they play a lot and Bomber usually loses... And RBBG is a nice place to start improving the score for Bomber! Why? Because he is Staaaaartaaaale BOOOOOOMBEEEEEER!!!!

How come this isn't considered a Premier tournament? It has a significantly higher prize pool than all the Majors and some of the Premiers (Dreamhack, IEM), is offline, and is pretty hyped by the community.

Fix: it is pretty much invitational with some qualifiers.

dont tell me that a 8man tournament is a premier tournament. Money says nothing about "major" or "premier".
Do you know why others dont have more money? they want(ed) to be a part of WCS (only tournaments with 25k prizemoney).

O.o Really? Huh, didn't know that.

(The whole reason I was wondering was because I always go the Liquipedia homepage to get to the Red Bull NYC page, but then I realize it's not under Upcoming Tournaments haha)

This tournament has had one of the most robust qualification we have seen, I'd definitely personally consider it a premier tournament.

Also, giving MORE money definitely does not disqualify you from awarding WCS points.

Why it's 3AM Korea time for qualifier final, since all players are from Korea? I don't think they would bring good games when they are sleepy.

Byul is incorrect, it is Bong as others have said.

where is it that Redbull says Bong?
why would he replace INnoVation?

noone replaces innovation, it's just bong instead of byul
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Red_Bull_Battlegrounds:_New_York_City/Qualifiers_2

what? there is no ByuL nor Bong anywhere. I don't get it...

there it says byul is taking part
http://www.teamliquid.net/calendar/2013/11/#event_19332
but it's innovation so that was the mistake, i mixed that one up myself. pretty confusing :D

Speaking of Innovation, does anyone know whether he'll be at DH Winter or WCG? He's qualified for both but they're the same weekend.

Does anyone else think they'll invite the Blizzcon winner? If there were an actual 4th qualifier we would have heard about it by now.

Global finals were always meant to be played online (I see it is written LA on LP, its just a copy paste error)

the overlay again says it is Bong, I have no idea where that comes from

Are they using the WCS map pool for the Global Finals?

EDIT: Bong is Innovation's previous nickname.

But Bong is protoss and Byun is terran, were the games not broadcast? Seems like someone would have been curious that Byun was playing protoss and investigated.

I dunno about PostgreSQL (the db system they use) but if it's anything like MySQL they can change all the games with one command line statement.

Bong was playing the qualifiers all along but under the account called "byun". Thats why he was listed as terran and there was some confusion~ Byun is bongs first name. Got a little confusing but I think we got it I wasn't able to keep track of the qualifiers the previous days as we had double wcs challenger league groups running at the office~

Glad Scarlett doesn't have to play two protosses, she MIGHT be able to make it out of that group: she took Bomber to the fifth game before...

I just can't see Scarlett or Golden getting out of group A. Bomber and Parting are both waaaaaaaay too strong.

Group B is a little harder to predict. sOs should for sure get out of the group, but 2nd place is kind of a toss up imo.

Also, I wanna know the map pool!

Sorry to say but I think Scarlett is screwed here. PartinG has been on form, and Bomber just took out Soulkey at Blizzcon. Golden is of course no slouch either, but I think he's going to be in the bottom of the barrel as well. tough group draw. The second group is a little harder to call. I'd say Hyun/sOs, but I've been surprised by the bosstoss before.

I think sOs has this tournament, with the wild card being PartinG's PvP

Group A: PartinG, Bomber
Group B: sOs, HyuN

Is the extremely safe and most likely outcome.

No way Bomber gets out of that group. Scarlett's ZvT is too good, and the patch will have severely destabilized TvZ.

Did you see Bomber vs Soulkey? He barely even made Mines the entire series. 90 Marines ~10 Marauders 4 Medivacs 1 Mine is all it took for him to crush Soulkey.

Bomber vs Soulkey gives us all hope for a better world, built around previously unfathomably low amounts of widow mines.
Have hope.
I personally look forward to Bomber vs Scarlett.

upon looking tickets for the this event, what is dalai lama, ga floor, wrestling, end stage seating? is there anything left in front of the stage or all booked out apart from far away top on the balcony?

I mean if you have to sit at the top of the balcony seeing nothing, you`re better off at home.

Cloud Kingdom is back from the dead?

whaaaaaaat?!

best sc2 map ever, but it was time to retire that one long ago. Seemed imbalanced in HotS.

Really disappointed they added Cloud Kingdom to the map pool. I rather they use more maps from the contest than reusing maps that aren't relevant to the scene.

Oh well, should be a good time regardless.

Bomber said on his stream that he has to practice to IEM Singapore, but I can't find any official confirmation. And he said several times in the interviews that he is not retiring and actually planning to participate in foreign tournaments next year.

Yeah, pretty sure that Redbull article was misleading. They just wrote another one saying:

He intends to start his compulsory military service in about two years, when he is 27.

Doesn't Scarlett feel the patch buffs widow mines, though, because it's harder to redirect the widow mine splash onto marines?

Like, yes, if the zerg mismicros and clumps a bunch of units not next to terran units, the old widow mines could be disasterous. But like...Scarlett just got to a level where she could play an entire match without any massive mismicro moments. (She's also one of the few zergs who tends not to take massive mine hits on her mutas).

Bomber is also a very heavily preparation based player--when he faced Scarlett in season 2, he had builds prepared specifically for her (proxy reaper into reaper hellion into 3 CC. If he were up against a zerg who liked to roach allin, this would be suicide). He also had planned bunker rushes, and planned surprise 20 marine moveouts to snipe her third. None of these things require widow mines.

She can definitely beat him, don't get me wrong, but I certainly wouldn't call the match for Scarlett this early.

Also, she might not even get to face Bomber. Let's say first round goes PartinG > Scarlett and Bomber > Golden. If Bomber then beats PartinG in the winner's match, then she never gets to face Bomber, and has to face PartinG again to get out of the group.

This is one of the reasons why I hate that format in group stages. I much prefer the format used at Dreamhack where each player plays each other once.

Does anyone know the map pool? Originally they had Cloud Kingdom on there, which is a great map and all but ooooooooold and probably not even fitting for balance reasons anymore.
