I really hope HeRoMaRinE will make the ESL PvP wonderland a bit more varied matchupwise this season come the semifinals of each cup. PS Well, I guess there´s Hanfy, too.
Yeah, the German scene pretty muched developed into something which I cheer for pretty much anything non-Protoss. Also a bit sad for lack of Take, I hope that Mori will have interesting cocasters at least and doesn't solotank the whole event.

I don't know, Take and his team has become quite a brand themselves. So if they start using their name to make their own events instead of piggybacking on other events (ATC, HSC), it will only make the European scene better.
A bit sad for TaKe, but Mori is a great caster aswell. Are there any plans to let Apollo&Kaelaris cast some of it aswell (Maybe not the cups but atleast ro8 onwards) or will it be a mostly german casted event?
That said I'm hoping for the terrans and Zergs do defeat their Protoss overlords for a change. Go HeroMarine and Panzergeneral!

Yes. As stated in the original post, we will have our English casters on board for the Ro8
no disrespect to Mori, but the takecrew casting the German EPS has always been something very special among the hundreds of casts and tournaments, people like SaltTheWound or Naruto et al know the players personally and are not afraid to make...er...special comments about them and their play (aka flame them) and provide a unique and very entertaining cast. a real shame they´ll only play a bit part in the future.
On October 03 2013 00:22 JustPassingBy wrote: So if they start using their name to make their own events instead of piggybacking on other events (ATC, HSC), it will only make the European scene better.
ATC and HSC are events from TakeTV directly, they are not jetzt sreaming it. So they defenitly have their own brand already.
But TakeTV will still get all matches, right? Or just the ones Mori cant stream? Would be a shame if they couldnt cast everything.
And if the offline part is without TaKe, it really isn't EPS. think about it, ESL.
Wouldn't jump to conclusions like you guys. Maybe TaKeTV didn't make a bid or wasn't ready to make the same commitments as Mori? Maybe TaKe focuses on other stuff etc.
Last season the EPS was overlapping with WCS Europe the whole time. That was pretty bad. And for me personally, WCS Europe has overshadowed the EPS not only in the time slots, but also conceptwise. A regular competition, giving the chance for established and new players alike.
No Take on the Offlinefinals will be so sad. Personally i don't like Mori, cause he is like TobiWan in Dota2, shouting loud and wild, but having no real idea about the game. If he gets a really good cocaster i think it might be fine anyway, but they wont be as funny as the taketv dudes.
NO Take is sad, but Mori and Kaelaris are great, too. Heromarinewill win btw, wonder why he's not even an option. At least if he plays all cups this time.
hmmm nobody seems to notice that the eps cups got halfed now with only 16 players instead of 32. Its true that most of the times there were still some empty spots but it was fun that it was so accessible for everyone. Maybe its better to make those cups more exclusive and less time consuming. In the past the cups were colliding a lot with WCS.. but that shouldnt be a problem now since wcs eu is over. EPS was already a lot of the same matchups over and over again... i guess we'll see more of that then. And im kinda afraid that monchi is not gonna play eps and retire. Hes not in the a-series so he probably wont be able to play the cups.. and according to liquipedia his contract with xmg expires on the 20th of october.. too many players already retired :/
EPS without Take is gonna be a bit weird too... Their casting of the EPS playoffs made it on national television. They probably need to focus more on ATC and HSC now since that takes a lot of time and you cant cast everything..but at least for the playoffs its kinda tradition... :/
Dennis (TaKe) and me will be casting todays EPS-Cup. Obviously we may not cast the same games as Mori in addition to missing the final, but for the rest, we will give our very best .
To be clear what the very best means:
I think the show will start 20 minutes before 7PM CET and we will have pre-season chit-chat about players, chances and our view on the situation (thats what I imagine it to be). Also... we will try to have fun during breaks and the periods we have no games to cover while being serious and hopefully spot on in-game. Also, we might have cocktails!

It was not. It required and still requires gettings ESL's "Trusted" membership, a lengthy process that many do not bother to do.

That's what I wanted to say, the European scene will only benefit if they commit more to their own events instead of concentrating on streaming events of other organizers.

Well there's no doubt that its less accessible now that only 4 people from the a-series are allowed to play.
Indeed it is quite annoying to get all the bureacracy done to compete in EPS but skillwise everyone was able to participate if they really wanted to. They just needed to go through the procedure to get trusted. Now they need to be top 4 in the A-series and actually win something before they are allowed to play.

Awesome as always. It is funny to see that TakeTV has over 3k viewers in the semifinals (without hasu or socke) while mori only has baout 2k in this finals. It's really sad that there is no other option of stream than mori, cause i would love to watch it, but i dont't like his way to commentate at all. Maybe EPS should allow TakeTV to cover the finals on english so no german guys can watch aswell.

It's not as if there needs to be another option besides Mori, they can just cast the finals together. :-/ Not sure how that will go though, the last time I heard four people cast over the internet was... I think moletrap, diggity, klazart and cholera or rise?
Speaking for myself here and I would guess TaKe would sign it (but as said, personal opinion) and also to clear up stuff.
I like Mori as person, as caster I believe he is not as good as he could be, but I did tell him face to face. I think he improved greatly and when I couldn't watch him a couple of yeras back, I could certainly watch a stream of him nowadays. He got a lot more clue about the game now compared to his past and certainly is enjoyable even though I find some stuff strange haha. Everyone has his own style.
Now about casting games / finals. He has the rights to cast EPS so he's the main caster. He gets to pick a game he wants to cast and obviously the finals and we can cast the rest. While I personally believe its sad, because I grew up casting EPS actually and I've been doing it for a long time (not even mentioning TaKe who did it for all seasons besides the first (wc3) in which he played himself) so... I can understand people that say TaKe+NarutO (which honors me a lot, thank you!) are EPS.
I hope Mori doesn't suffer any hate/negativity from the decision that ESL made. He obviously is a competitor in the scene and a professional caster who needs to earn money as well. If its a smart choice by ESL, everyone can decide on their own. So while I personally find it sad and wish it would be different, I hope the scene doesn't go nuts about it
Our goal was to cover more matches and cause a bit more competition to improve quality for all viewers. If all casters are allowed to cast the 'best' matches, the effect is weaker and we might end up with two streams for the same amount of matches shown as before. This season we decided to get Mori on board as the main caster since he did a very good job with the German WCS casts. He has a different style than TakeTV and we wanted to give it a shot. For next season, we might re-evaluate our strategy, but for now, lets just enjoy the shows and the games, because both are doing a good job in their respective way to cast.
Stream-discussion aside, Hanfy recently called all EPS participants "easy to beat". Will be interesting to watch his performance tonight.
I always find it a shame if a player I am rooting for is eliminated in the very first round. Is there a reason why the bracket is not done with double elimination? I mean you have multiple casters now covering the event and only 16 players to begin with.
We are using single elimination in almost all our pro-competitions nowadays. It's closer to 'real' sports, which makes it easier to understand if you are not an esport-enthusiast in the first place and it makes every single game more important.
Also, while one could argue about playoffs or tournaments of higher importance, I feel like double elimination would be too much for a weekly cup that is played online and has only a couple hundred Euros prizemoney. But that's just my personal opinion.

Well, I don't think it is right to count this as a weekly cup. Yes, it takes place every week, but only during a special season. You can't compare it to something like go4sc2 sunday, which I would say is a weekly cup.
But either way, I wonder what the opinion of the players are. I mean if they are against playing double elim, then there is no reason to play it. Though if they want to play double elim, then there is no reason not to play it (as I doubt that the casters will mind).

Mori has exclusive rights to cast the EPS. He picks a game from a round and we get to pick other games. As the final is just one game, we may not cast it. Thats how it works currently. Sorry bout that!

Still, it's a company-wide decision more or less to go for single elimination in our tournaments. Players would prefer a league-system or tripple-elim brackets and Bo15 (at least), I guess Because it basically eliminates upsets and surprises, which favors better players, but that also removes a very interesting part of a tournament. Something like today (Socke, Hasu, Tarra, Hanfy eliminated quite early) would be less likely to happen in a double elimination grid. Which would be nice for them and their fans, but I think the EPS cups are fun to watch regularly especially because you don't always see the same players in the semis every week.
I understand your point here, but I think there is no right or wrong answer to this question. There are pros and cons for both and you have to make a decision at some point. And ESL thinks, single elim serves the best for everyone, somehow.
I really hope that Revenge manages to edge himself into the playoffs in the remaining three qualifiers. Even though PvP became much better thanks to the Mothership Core and the Tempest, it would not hurt to see more Terrans during the live event.

taketv must cast the playoffs. Its just against common sense to shut down the stream that has 3x the viewer every time even though they dont get the best games.
Need Speedvacs can't intercept it fast enough from getting a seeker into the raven ball when your Vikings are out of posi, Which is easy with seekers. But always fun games if no side tries to win.

It's more likely that Take is not able to fulfill the planned schedule RO8 is one day after HSC8.
If you guys read the comment from ESLDaniel you will see that ESL already realized they made a mistake. But ESL has made contracts and they can't change anything for this season anymore. People should stop posting assumptions without any basic behind-the-scenes knowledge. Why wouldn't TaKe be able to handle Ro8 just because its the day after HSC?

That's not what I said I said we had reasons to make this decision, that we would keep our commitment and re-evaluate the strategy when the situation changes, latest in 2014 for the next season.
Also, please remember we will have English cast for the Ro8.
However, back to Starcraft:
Last cup today. 4 slots for the Ro8 are still available. It will get really close for players like Hanfy, Tarrantius or Goody.
Ro8 will be drawn on Wednesday at around 15:30 CET in a videoconference with players. Socke and most likely Showtime (else, Hasuobs) will be able to veto their first opponent. Mori will stream it.
So Socke, Showtime, HeroMarine are definitely through. Everything over 80 points should be a secure spot in the playoffs, Tarra, KnowMe, Salt would at least need a top 4 finish, Delphi Goody kauP would have to reach the finals. So much for my hopes of seeing at least two terrans in the playoffs. Let's hope that we get at least one more zerg.

he rarely has cocasters, and solo cast < dual cast every time. Especially if youre more a play-by-play caster it would be really good to have an analyst as cocaster.. But usually he doesnt have good chemistry with his cocasters. Because hes always trying to create excitement by shouting. It doesnt help that he doesnt really know that much about the game. Sometimes hes just shouting for the sake of shouting without knowing what is crucial to the game.
when i listen to his stream i have to permanently adjust the volume of the stream because he sometimes talks in a very low and deep voice so you dont understand anything and on the weirdest occasions he just roars in the microphone that the entire sound is on overdrive. Like at every player introduction when he comes back from the break, im always cringing. Im always wondering, why do you have to shout so much with no reason? You can talk with excitement when something exciting happens but your sound shouldnt be so up and down all the time.
then his style is more like an official football commentator. Like over emphasizing every word. Well thats cool, thats his style. you can do that if you want. its just when you're talking all formal and then drop some colloquial words like "geil", "scheisse" and it feels really awkward and weird when you overemphasize it. Its like someone who wouldnt ever use such words, uses them to fit in. Like you want to be "the cool dad." You know.. out of character. That might be just my opinion though.
Thats why i try to avoid his stream whenever i can. Im not quite sure but i hope im somewhere in the spectrum of constructive criticism with enough tolerance towards different styles of casting.
I´m not trying to start a caster debate here, I prefer a TaKe/NarutO-dualcast over a solocast as well, as I said earlier. I am just critisizing comments saying, they will boycott the playoffs, because they aren´t ok with the caster choice and hinted ad-hominem attacks on him. An example of that would be this one:

But ESL has made contracts and they can't change anything for this season anymore. I guess the only way would be, if mori says TakeTV will be allowed aswell- but he won't do that(as you mentioned he doesn't even mention his Coaster in the overlay... i guess this says all)So just skip the playoffs like I do and just watch for the results and hope for next season with great casters again.

Fully agree with you.
There can be a lot of reasons to like a caster better or not, but this Kindergarten-style complaining is uncalled for.
If you are looking for an English cast tonight, please note the channel changed, since Pengwin won't be back from Krefeld in time. Madals will start the show solo at http://www.eslproseries.de/channel/madals/
I don't get why I get so "much" hate for my comment. All i said is, that i really don't know why Mori never has his commentators name or twitter/facebook link in his overlay, which is pretty common for any other - even not so famous- casters. I guess it's still my decision to watch playoffs, and if i watch Mori casting games i think i can use my time better. But if Take+Naruto cast it's worth my time.

Eh, please define much and define hate, because I cannot find anything.
Anyways, Socke really outplayed Salt, looking solid as usual.

I can't even watch on 720p lagfree with Take's stream and even 480p has hiccups from time to time... Though that is something new, normally 720p works perfectly with 1080p stuttering.

Try refreshing; I got a good server after some tries and have no lags (hope I did not jinx it now).

thanks for the tip, I'll start refreshing now.
Wasnt able to watch source for more than six months, I deserve it :D
Btw Gogo Heromarine! A terran in the finals would be more than awesome :D
After refreshing multiple times, source is still unwatchable for me. But at least 720p works now... edit gg Heromarine, I wonder what he would have rather won, this series or the series at HSC? :D

Hanfy went in base hatch plus normal expo. Socke went forge expand. It looked like Socke missed the drone in his base, though he could have seen it. Hanfy built a roach warren and fake attacked the front with some lings. When in base hatch was done, Hanfy built roaches and a queen, but too few at a time. Socke killed them with drones, MSC a stalker and a zealot twice. Hanfy gged.

Odd thing is; he saw the probe, even had a little skirmish with it and his probe.

Well it's easy to miss little things in unconventional games. Socke was trying to get as much information as possible with his scouting probe and was at the same time preparing for the incoming lings at the front. He even put down a 2nd canon because he didn't know on what hanfy spent his resources. In the end it didn't really matter that socke missed the drone. If you want to go for a proxy hatch you have to open with that. Seems like this was a on the fly move from hanfy without thinking too much about the timing.
A bit sad that we'll only get to see the players in persona after the ro4, but I guess it is understandable. With the increased influx of non-Protoss, the current schedule of the EPS just isn't realizable within a single day anymore.
Anyways, looking forward to see whether Hasuobs plays that colossless PvP again, with immortal, archon, tempest and how good Delphi's ZvP has become in the last few weeks.
In the non-vanishing offchance that Delphi manages to place 2nd, you can probably hear HeroMarine's cheer from any position in Germany. I think Delphi definitely has better chances than depicted, considering that he only had one matchup to prepare. I don't see him winning against Hasu though.
Wow, Take sounds much better than during the ATC cast, hope he'lll get better soon. Why don't the two German streams just work together and make a dual cast for the group?
I would really like to rewatch the final fight and look at what exactly Hasu did to come up on top the way he did. I think it's because Showtime just walked into that choke Hasu initially retreated from, but I'm not sure.
I have nothing against Delphi at all, but this is honestly some pretty terrible muta play. He just keeps feeding them into the phoenix ball one by one, and now he's going to lose. His decision making in the air battles leaves something to be desired.
Teamkill incoming. I wonder how much Hasuobs is worried about the upcoming match. On the Knowme's recent stream he seemed more worried about his PvZ, haha.
Well I could say something snarky thats balance related about PvT, but I'm too lazy for that. I guess Hasuobs is confident because he knows what HeroMarine can do, and I would guess they practice TvP with each other anyway.
Really looking forward to the finals, I think HeroMarine can win it all, but we'll see.
So the ESL designed a new site for the EPS and when I click on it I still cant out within 1minute when the next SC2 games are going to be played and who plays against who. Am I stupid or is the site still just bad?

front page -> calender -> sc2/fifa finals
alternatively: front page, scroll down till you see the Winter Season timeline, and click on sc2/fifa finals
But yeah, something like this cannot hurt if it's in a "upcoming events" ticker visible on the front page (without scrolling) like in TL.
So does anyone know if there is some kind of preshow or does the show start at 14:30 CET with the first match? I'd like to add it to the calendar (why didn't you do it ESL guys?) but I don't want to enter the wrong starting time, so plz let me know! thx in advance!

Just checked EinsPlus, theres currently a documentary about Bali, nothing to be found about EPS (checked other channels too)
well, i now have found some internet remnants confirming the whole thing was planned, but, alas, something must´ve come up or made the powers that be change their mind...nevermind.

I like both Hasu and Socke but they really didn't play their best PvT today especially Socke made a lot of really big mistakes. It would have felt really bland if he won the finals so I'm very happy that we finally have a Terran doing well in the EPS.
