Do you remember WCS Europe Finals 2012? We had 126k viewers.... much better final. Lucifron vs. Stephano attracted much more attention. The finals were Vortix vs Stephano tho, that was the winners bracket if i remember right. 
Ah you are correct. But the Luci/Stephano series was really good, and despite the ZvZ, having Luci's brother go for the "revenge" in the finals was still a huge draw. Kind of a perfect storm for attracting viewers

You have to put it somewhat different: Qualification for FIFA World Cup (~WCS Season Final) is divided into regional qualifiers. If it would be in football as it is in WCS, European teams would spread into NA, Asia and Africa qualifier and there would only be European nationalteams at Fifa World Cup. Everyone would state that would be totaly stupid, but somehow many of the community accept it for WCS?!? Exactly , imagine IF EU teams could compete in the African region ? ..... See, that is the problem. IF you have region lock, you need to have weighted distribution for the global finals. You cannot just have region lock with it. Also, the prize pool will need to be adjusted as well. NBA players make more than basketball players in the China league.
Also, the name has nothing to do with this. There are plenty of sports like Golf, tennis, badminton, etc that has the name of the location it is being played at. It isn't like last year where you had nationals and continentals. Hell, they should just name it WCS Europe Open
