Pretty convinced that Vortix makes it through as the sole hero zerg, as long as he doesn't choke and Mana suddenly finds his inner beast! Personally rooting for MC but you never know with PvP really..

I can't understand how the metagame somehow developed to not include colossi anymore. For either play it would just be a good move to add robo bay and mix in a few colossi.. It costs 400/400 to get bay and upgrade while stargate + fleetbeacon is just as expensive.. Just get a few colossi, they dominate these sort of fights. If the other makes tempests you can easily switch back to zealot/immortal/archon.. Especially with timewarp in fights colossi are just so good as everything balls up even more..

hmm zealot and msc for 4 probes? that's really not worth it in pvp.. Economy damage is very little because P cuts probes at this point anyway, so the damage is 200-300 minerals at most. In the same time you're msc loses a lot of energy and you lose 200/100, it's a pretty bad trade..

Maybe Titan was worried about losing it and hoped to hold on long enough to get a nexus cannon to help defend. I don't know how much energy was on the core.
Vortix managed to beat San online 2-0 not that long ago so maybe it's a sign that he has pretty good ZvP. He hasn't played that many official ZvP matches lately.

Yeah that's why I don't like it. I feel like you're basically forced into a 2-base allin, because the third is so damn hard to hold. Mana could've maybe done it with some better micro though, dunno.

Just do what HerO does on this map. Fake a macro game by opening stargate, actually go 7 gate +1. Then when zerg has absolutely nothing going for them, that's when you take your third.
Forces shouldve split them and tried to pin them against the nexus. I dunno, it wasn't too bad but wasn't 100% Korean :D Those Hydras, were they being focused? They wrecked those voids.

I just think the balance whining and QQ is funny. Maybe Protoss is OP, maybe it isn't, but using one tournament as a judgement on balance is just a horrible idea.
EDIT: MMA winning would also be hilarious to shut up the balance whiners. And he should do it by inventing a fast blue flame hellbat drop build.

I prefer Red City over Starstation in PvZ. Hope at some point players will stop going for standard maps. Especially if it is a guaranteed loss almost xD.

vortix was guarnateed to go 4-0 in this group. Anybody who has played these players know regardless of balance vortix is far superior to every1 in this group. Even dropping a map would have been odd. WP by vortix.

Isn't that the way a matchup should be tho? I like it a lot because of the diversity ^^. Sometimes a series can last 2.5 hours, sometimes it's only 20 minutes :p.

lol I agree. Banshees are a decent unit because at least you have to micro them to be effective as long as your opponent doesn't just leave them to do damage
Apollo = most valuable Starcraft asset in the world. He's incredibly articulate, his analysis is 99% of the time spot on perfect, and he's just a very likable guy. This combined with the rest of the production over at ESL / WCS EU.... Redeye, Kaelaris, Adebisi, and the amazing job the behind the scenes production crew does it all really adds up to being the most entertaining league in the scene.
I wish my local WCS AM guys would watch and take notes. Sorry but Terry the intern is cute and quirky and all.... watching them play paintball uhh sure thats alright too I guess.... The casters at NASL just don't have the same professional "This may be an e-sport but damnit we cast it feel like a sport!!" While still being able to joke around now and again without losing their professional, strictly business, feel. NASL guys, who I love btw... Bitterdam are one of the best casting duo's doing it.... they sometimes feel too laid back. Especially when Mr Bitter is talking with Terry the intern.
Watching EU and AM back to back you can clearly see the gap in production value and hence entertainment value between the two.
I hope I'm not the only one who sees it this way, and I hope the guys at WCS AM / NASL are taking notes and trying to learn from the current best in the business.

I do think that MMA is probably the only one that can stop Vortix, so if MMA gets matched up against a protoss in the RO8, Vortix should be able to win WCS EU.

gotta agree, i really enjoy the EU WCS way more then the US one, but part of that might be that it's not just koreans duking it out, but mostly actually europeans playing. that makes interviews way more enjoyable, but yeah, the EU crew is really solid, they all do a great job and work very good as a team. Keep it up team EU!!
Vortix saves WCS EU from a 7-Protoss Ro8! Even as a Protoss fan I can't really complain, that many PvPs gets pretty damn old. Now hoping MC makes it out.

The casters at NASL just don't have the same professional "This may be an e-sport but damnit we cast it feel like a sport!!" While still being able to joke around now and again without losing their professional, strictly business, feel. NASL guys, who I love btw... Bitterdam are one of the best casting duo's doing it.... they sometimes feel too laid back. Especially when Mr Bitter is talking with Terry the intern.
Watching EU and AM back to back you can clearly see the gap in production value and hence entertainment value between the two.

Yeah I watch those, and they are cast after the ro8 on Saturday [i think] (or what I hope as a buffer between the semis and the final on Sunday.

Someone who is smarter than me, why is it that the meta has favoured Archon/Immortal based armies in PvP rather than going for the usual Colossus-based stuff?

I might be wrong but I believe it's because many people get stargates in PvP now and colossi get shit on by tempests

Archons can break ffs and Immortals eat stalkers and colossi. With zealots for shields, I think it's a strong combo. My take on it at least.

My guess tells me that Colossus-based stuff loses to Immortals since Archon can just crush the FFs and just march onto victory. It looks like Archons can destroy positional advantage, allowing your Immortals and Zealots to just crush through.

The suggestion that Archon/Immo wins over Colossus seems dubious, considering that it should have been the case in WoL too.
As for Stargate it seems like an idea, sure, but you'd be able to scout if people are going SG or not.
It just seems strange to me. Maybe there are some vulnerable timings you can exploit, and once you've gone down the path of Archon/Immo you kinda have to stay on it.

That's the core of it, yeah. Mass archon/zealot/immortal was already strong in WoL but there was a timer on it since a critical mass of colossi just stomped it to the ground. But now you can transition to tempests before/right around when that critical mass would kick in and a heavy colossus army really has absolutely nothing to deal with tempests. That's why it's now the other way around - there's a timer on the colossus player against archon/immortal/chargelot/tempest

MC did spent similar amount of supply defending his third - I believe 2 archons, 2 stalkers and a couple of zealots.
The thing is, Titan shouldn't have split his army like that. MC can pull his units at his third since he's the one defending.
But the trick was that Colossi needed a buffer to live long enough for them to kill everything. Also, Titan had some supply on his own third, chasing warp prism around.

MC won because Archon splash killed all the zealots, so that his Immortals could work on the colossi almost right away. Upgrades wouldn't have changed things.

Archons... generally overall best unit in sc2? shoots both up and down, splash damage, can tank, not difficult to tech up to... only real hard counter is ghost and EMP

Colossi have higher range, so if you want your Immortals attack enemy Colossi, Zealots will just rip them apart.

The idea was that the core of MC's army was zealots and they would melt, and then the rest of the armies would even out, but one guy would have more AOE.

Colossi have higher range, so if you want your Immortals attack enemy Colossi, Zealots will just rip them appart.

Titan spawns in the top left MC spawns in the bottom right
1:00 Both players going 2 gas after gateway.
2:00 Both players getting a cybernetics core.
3:00 MC saving up chronoboost but getting a third pylon and a cannon. MC chronoboosting warp gate research.
4:00 Titan getting a stargate. MC getting a twilight council.
5:00 2 more gateways for MC. Titan getting an oracle. MC researching blink.
6:00 TitaN 37 MC 35 Titan moving across the map but MC sees everything with a hallucinated phoenix.
7:00 TitaN 42 MC 48 Titan walks right into MC's base but MC is ready with a nexus cannon. MC nearly kills the mothership core and the Orace but gets neither. Titan expands.
8:00 TitaN 54 MC 54 MC has not expanded and is building stalkers.
9:00 TitaN 72 MC 64 MC finally taking an expansion while attacking the natural expansion of Titan.

They're the best overall unit in terms of stats and utility.

targeting that nexus was a big mistake after the failed warp in. I think he could have won if he didn't take all that DPS for like 5 seconds and warped in off to the side in the main
Fun fact, while on a Korean team (oGs) MC only won premier events in Korea. While on a European team (SK), he's only won premier events in Europe. Coincidence?

Maybe going to get a bit stereotypical, but the Koreans seem to be more solid when it comes to consistent decision making. I mean I know they make mistakes too, but why do the foreigners seem to choke at critical moments more often?

I think the majority of Koreans derp just as often as foreigners, but they usually manage to hold on until the foreigner returns the favor. More tenacity and better crisis management I'd guess, probably something to do with their anything-goes approach to the game.
and if I have to take the argument that several great games in a row, foiled at the critical moment by targeting the wrong thing, that didn't really seem like too big of a gaff at the time, makes someone suddenly 'worse' than their opponent while clearly ignoring everything else about the game..

If I was doing a general WCS EU power-ranking (not necessarily who would beat who, but who's in better condition overall), I'd probably say: (1) Naniwa, (2) Duckdeok, (3) MMA, because MMA's looked a bit shakier than the other two, especially in team leagues where he hasn't been dominated as much as he would have liked to. However, the important thing to bear in mind is that MMA has always been weak against protoss and he could have a hard time breaking through this bracket.
So sad that Naniwa/Duckdeok is Ro8, it could easily have been the finals. ;;;;

Protoss everywhere might not be appealing to many, but all the Ro8 matchups look interesting to me, all could go either way and no one looks a big favourite to take the title. Very wide open tournament, so could be interesting : )
