ASUS ROG releases the rules, map pool and the groups which start off the ASUS ROG Summer 2013 StarCraft II tournament in Helsinki August 1-3.
It is less than a week until the first matches of ASUS ROG Summer 2013 go live. The players have now been placed in the groups for the first group stage which will be played on the first day of the tournament, Thursday 1st August 13:00--22:30 CEST. The 32 players are divided into groups of four, which will be played in dual tournament format with best-of-5 matches. The top two players of each group advance to the second group stage, which is played in a similar fashion on Friday 2nd August.
However, despite the proximity of the event, we were able to get noteworthy replacements: Dignitas.TargA, NaVi.BabyKnight, prOperty.RunA, Fnatic.Naama and Bischu will take the vacant spots. We are very grateful to these players and teams who heeded our call and made the arrangements in a short time so that the tournament could retain its high standards.
Group Stage 1 The first round is player 1 vs player 2, and player 3 vs player 4.

Wow JD not attending? I guess he will be practicing to improve his abilities for WCS America. I guess this would be good as he's been traveling a lot lately.
Oh no! No JD, I was so hyped and pumped to see him live... and now... Well... At least there is still so many good players to see. Still a great tournament coming =)
Will there be an actual crowd this time? Last time there was no real viewing area at all, all you could do was to sit behind the players and watch their games. Kinda ruined some of the fun.

This will only be his 2nd foreign event in HotS. He wasn't supposed to go to Shanghai but blizzard is having him for their launch event thingy so that's why he's there. Hell still be in Korea, he has up and downs. He was only able to go to ASUS because his coach paid for him
Sad to hear about the cancellations, but the replacements are pretty good. Would have loved to see JD and Naniwa though. Nonetheless still looking forward to the tournament!

TLO seems to be playing in everything these days. Red Bull Training Groud now, and This next week. Don't overdo it!
Well in my opinion this lineup is way better than the one at IEM Shanghai... Still, sucks that Naniwa cancelled :-/
Yeah, it's still looking like one of the best tournaments since DH summer. Would have been even hotter with the cancelled players but what can you do :\

A significant reason is the complete lack of hotels available. Alicia was an early invite and we couldn't find a hotel for him. Plenty of other Koreans still have this problem and we're desperately scrambling to try and find accommodation.

That's a really unfortunate reason to be forced to cancel

Oh wow, that's crazy. I know summer is pretty busy with tourists in Helsinki but that's shocking to hear.
Just to clarify, was it simply finding ANY room, or a "reasonably" priced room?

Hi John,
I haven´t heard of any problems. Please, could you ask Koreans to contact me and I will assist them with room reservation.
Nearest hotel, Holiday Inn Messukeskus still seems to have plenty of rooms available. Problem with Alicia´s room was that he arrives so early and Holiday Inn was under renovation, this should be sorted out now. There are other hotels nearby also if needed.

Same here. We even rebooked our reservation today with RunA attending as well. There are still a lot of free rooms in the hotels located close to Hartwal Arena.

I cant belive this. There cant be every hotel room reserved. Just cant..even when mega band like Iron Maiden was at Helsinki, there was hotel rooms available.
i wish ROG made some effort for the live audience... i know they do gj with the online , but going there to stand behind the players is... TOTALLY worth it see u there. (atleast having the finals at the stadium floor would be sick)
Sucks the EG representation pulled out what with their 3 top 2 finishes in the last 3 offline/online events of note. Wonder why they couldn't send some other people, like Thorzain or Demuslim. Wanna see Demu in more events!

Probably because of the proximity to WCS events (no other explanation given).
you have to have qualifiers to be eligible for wcs points
ASUS ROG had qualifiers. This tournament should be wcs event when you compare to other events that are. But most likely tournament organizers never asked for wcs points.
(You get so few points that I dont even understand this system. Points taken from tournaments like this are so useless.)
PiG landed in Helsinki this morning after a 22 hour transit from Sydney via Singapore. He's pulling up okay because he was upgraded to Business Class http://on.fb.me/19skS9C

This time it won't be completely the same as last summer. Now there is a place to watch the games off a screen, and also the finals are played in the main stage. So definitely more to see than last year if you visit the event.

Huh, no. HyuN is actually 15th in WCS ranking with almost all his points from non-WCS tournaments. Jaedong is 18th by the same way. They both could qualify for WCS Global Finals even if they don't do well in WCS tournaments.
I believe the organizers of ASUS ROG asked for WCS points but I don't know what happened exactly.

Tell that to Hyun who is sitting in the top 16 without having any success at all in actual WCS. Or Jaedong.
