ForGG <Newkirk Precinct TE> VortiX ForGG goes for a pressure build on two bases without a third CC. VortiX defends successfully with ling/baneling while teching to mutas. ForGG is unprepared for the mutas and gets harassed as he takes a third. He tries to attack again, but VortiX successfully defends. With mutas over his production line uncontested, he goes for a final attack adding in hellbats, but VortiX defends easily.
ForGG <Bel'Shir Vestige> VortiX ForGG gets fast 3CCs this time and game is pretty standard with ForGG taking the 10 o'clock 3rd base. He manages to snipe the 4th base at the 8 o'clock of VortiX immediately after it goes up. VortiX harasses with mutas again, but ForGG is more prepared this time with turrets. A back and forth game with army trades with both players not splitting well so widow mines and banelings are effective. VortiX is trying to get a 4th/5th base and ForGG is just staying on 3 bases with constant pressure. VortiX loses all his mutas when it got trapped between the main and the third. ForGG keeps on pressuring the 4th at the 8 o'clock position and VortiX runs out of steam and taps out when it was clear he was going to lose the base.
ForGG <Neo Planet S> VortiX ForGG uses a similar build to game one where he goes for production instead of a 3rd CC. VortiX going for a roach/baneling bust with a third hatch at the 9 o'clock. ForGG's hellions finds the roaches on the way so he has some time to prepare, but VortiX still breaks through. ForGG manages to hold with an SCV pull and VortiX goes back to droning with his worker lead. ForGG counters and almost breaks the natural, but VortiX just manages to have enough to defend even with no baneling speed. ForGG goes for a final attack but fails so he gg's.
Grubby <Neo Planet S> Bunny Bunny spawns at the 7 o'clock and goes for a reaper expand with CC on the high ground. Grubby at the 1 o'clock goes for gateway expand followed by a stargate. Bunny tries to pressure with marine/widow mine and Grubby defends really easily and gets a supply lead after Bunny loses everything. Bunny sits back and gets a third CC while Grubby techs to chargelot/archon and gets 8 gateways. Bunny pressures again as he takes his third. Grubby defends but not well enough to counter for the win so he starts his own third. Bunny gets ghosts and manages to take out Grubby's third and natural by splitting his forces. Grubby gg's when Bunny's forces at his natural goes up to his main.
Grubby <Bel'Shir Vestige> Bunny Grubby spawns at the 11 o'clock position while Bunny spawns at the 5 o'clock position. Standard game with similar fast expand openings, but Grubby gets a robotics instead. Grubby goes for a two base immortal push with 3 gates, but Bunny's marine/widow mine pressure spots it very early. Bunny mismanages the repair (ran out of money) and loses his natural and Grubby keeps pushing up the ramp until Bunny gg's.
Grubby <Newkirk Precinct TE> Bunny Grubby spawns at the 5 o'clock position and opens the same as game 1 with stargate. Bunny spawns at the 7 o'clock with a CC first at the low ground. Grubby gets an oracle and gets a few SCVs. He follows it up with a robotics for colossus and double upgrade. Bunny pressures with some bio before the first colossus. Grubby manages to defend but loses the colossus. Bunny keeps pressuring, but the gateway units are enough to defend with the one oracle until another colossus came out. Despite being ahead, Bunny sits back on his three bases and only goes out to snipe Grubby's third base. Bunny maxes out and goes for an attack and takes out Grubby's third, but loses a lot of units to storms and colossi. Grubby is patiently defending and manages to take out Bunny's army with some great storms. He has a supply lead, but still doesn't have enough to confidently attack into Bunny. Grubby constantly harasses with warp prisms at the main and is doing a lot of damage adding in DTs. The damage is too much and Bunny gg's with no major engagement.
VortiX <Star Station> Grubby Grubby spawns at the 1 o'clock position with a gateway expand and delayed second gas. VortiX spawns at the 7 o'clock position with a fast expand to a quick third. Grubby gets a robo and harasses with a sentry drop. VortiX spots it early and defends easily. Grubby takes his 3rd. VortiX techs to a roach/hydra/viper composition while he takes his 4th at the 6 o'clock. Grubby gets templar archives and takes a hidden 4th at the 5 o'oclock main base. VortiX mismicroes and loses 2 of his 3 vipers but gets all of Grubby's colossi. VortiX tries to pressure the third, but Grubby defends easily and manages to snipe the 4th base at the same time with some zealots in a warp prism. VortiX switches to ultras and pushes Grubby's army out of the middle of the map. Grubby pulls back to his third and defends successfully while harassing VortiX's third with more zealots. Grubby has his 5th base up at the 3 o'clock while VortiX tries to get his own 5th at the 9 o'clock., but is denied by some zealots. VortiX attacks Grubby's 5th, but loses his entire army doing no real damage. Grubby snipes the 3rd and the 4th with some DTs. VortiX goes for another push at Grubby's 5th and manages to break through. VortiX keeps rolling and takes out the 3rd. Grubby is down to the hidden base at a 40 supply deficit while VortiX is trying to reestablish his 6 o'clock 4th and his 3rd base. VortiX keeps pushing Grubby's natural but can't break him. Grubby pushes out but VortiX's army is too much and finally breaks the natural. Grubby gg's.
VortiX <Bel'Shir Vestige> Grubby Grubby spawns in the 11 o'clock position with a forge on the natural. VortiX spawns at the 5 o'clock position with a hatch first. Grubby goes for a cannon rush and VortiX tries to defend with spine crawlers. Grubby commits with more cannons and takes out the hatchery. VortiX tries to counter with lings but Grubby walls off in time and VortiX is going for a baneling bust. First bust gets through with a few speedlings into Grubby's main. VortiX attempts a second bust on the new wall-off and is successful with a few lings in the main once again but Grubby creates another wall. A final bust for VortiX doesn't make it through and he gg's.

So much for standard, Grubby goes for a HuK YOLO with +1 attack and 6 gates. VortiX manages to defend and Grubby is getting a dark shrine while behind. VortiX just counters with roach/ling and Grubby is unable to hold.

Cloaked banshee only kills one marine and forces one scan. ForGG gets a lot of hellions and spots Bunny's 1-1-1 push with banshee, raven, tank and marines. ForGG defends with a cloaked banshee. Bunny keeps sending in cloaked banshees to try and harass while he gets his own (very behind) natural. ForGG makes more hellions with viking, banshee, and raven against Bunny's tank, marine, banshee. ForGG wipes Bunny's push and goes for a counterattack. Bunny doesn't have enough and gg's.
ForGG <Star Station> Bunny Bunny spawns at the 8 o'clock position and opens with reactored reapers to a CC on the lowground. ForGG spawns at the 2 o'clock position and opens with reactored marines and CC on the highground. Bunny's reapers accomplished nothing and ForGG goes for a push with medivacs. Bunny can't defend and gg's.
Grubby <Neo Planet S> ForGG Grubby spawns in the 7 o'clock position and opens standard. ForGG spawns in the 1 o'clock position and opens with a quick third CC. Very passive game with Grubby teching to colossus and ForGG teching towards standard bio play. Both players trying to establish their thirds, but Grubby focused too much on a drop and was unable to defend his third. Behind in every way, Grubby pushes towards ForGG's third and gets a lift before recalling. ForGG attacks with a max army and crushes Grubby's army. Grubby gg's.
Grubby <Bel'Shir Vestige> ForGG Grubby spawns in the 10 o'clock position. ForGG spawns in 5 o'clock position. Both opening the same way with ForGG going for the same greedy 3rd CC. Grubby trying to punish with an immortal bust. ForGG preparing with 6 bunkers. Grubby can't break it, so he tries to elevator with 2 sentries and an immortal. Does a bit of damage and gets a cancel on stimpack. Grubby gets one colossus with thermal lance and breaks the natural. ForGG doesn't have enough and gg's.

ForGG eventually holds, but Grubby does a lot of damage. Grubby pulls back to wait for his colossus and pushes once more to finally get the gg from ForGG.

You can really see how the lag is hurting ForGGs micro, Vortix wouldnt have held his third if they had the same latency. But ofc no1 is forcing forGG to play on EU either

Hmm. Micro "intensive" in my opinion is micro that requires fast and precise mouse actions like marine splitting. Take that immortal bust for example. Droping forcefields requires accuracy but you cant really call it micro intensive. Sure lag could be a problem even with ff if he had zerglings running in so he reacted late but all he really did was drop forcefields around bunkers after Lucifron's workers already got back to mining. I dont see how lag would be an issue in such situation.
Not to mention that not scouting the build is at least 50% of making such build work.In macro game you need to outplay your opponent in a much longer match
Also, macro games usually last longer so the chance of making a critical micro mistake is higher than in a game that ends in 7-8 minutes.
edit: if he did something like blink stalker all in that requires a lot of blink micro, you would have a point, but his builds were much easier to execute than play a straight up macro game

Lol, ok I am over it since it never bothered me in the first place since I only discovered that recently. Grubby is proof that bm players can mature and change with age, while others like naniwa and idra never mature with age.

That game actually highlighted the difference in skill between Korean and foreign terrans better than most games. No good korean terran would have run their whole army up that ramp into the third. Not a single one.

I feel as if it was the theory that most plats understand, but you're right, very few players can do what Grubby could perform.
Evidence? I've played against some Protosses in Platinum (WHY?! I'M A SILVER) before and they won the games (because I'm actually IN silver.. never play 1v1's though) but they certainly didn't pull that off.

well he was loosing everything inside his main, and when he would have pulled his army back, Bunny would have lost his third/fourth.

He was most definitely frustrated to play TvP late game. All terran have felt this way before and probably quite often against protoss.
Its pretty clear what you play i guess, Grubby just outplayed Bunny here and broke him down.
I have 1000+ wins with both Terran and Protoss.
In WoL it was much more challenging to defend terran timings because of lack of mothership core.

Haven't played WoW for ages but I just remember it was the most broken setup in the start of the firelands expansion. Fun times killing rank 1 glads every game as a pretty big noob

That requires some history, but adding "cleave" was done as a derogatory measure, similar to labeling something "cheese".
The early meta established that a "proper" composition was one melee, one caster, and one healer. Later, the original "cleave" was created around the Warrior ability of the same name (which allowed them to hit two targets for a short amount of time), and the first two comps to be played with doublemelee were the two named Cleave above. This was seen as "cheese" almost, because simply rushing down your opponents with two melees is easier to play than to slowly pick them apart with a "balanced" comp, such as the early strong comps of RMP (Rogue Mage Priest) and WLD (Warrior Lock Druid).
Later, comps were often named by people who *LOST* to a comp, as opposed to being named by those who created it. Exceptions are things like Shadowplay, which takes a great deal of skill to play, and TSG, which was named by the eSports team of the same name. Calling something a "cleave" is intended to insinuate that you lost to something dumb and cheesy, rather than being outplayed. Saying "ugh, I just lost to some dumb cleave" is similar to saying "ugh, I just lost to a 6pool".

Failed zerg scouting and overdroning. The overlord scouting the gates the second they went down wasn't exactly helpful for Grubby.
But regardless of what the zerg scouts, he is still going to build units at that timing. See robo facility, build units in case of immortal all ins. The only thing that could possibly cause zerg to not build units at that time would be seeing a stargate.

That was not a lag issue, ForGG got straight up beat in Game 3 by Grubby. Archons are the one unit protoss has which owns Hellbats (not-light, plus do bonus vs. Biological) and they would've ripped through much of ForGG's army. He didn't recognize the third, didn't recognize the push, and got beat.

I don't think micro was the problems, ForGG lost it partly by his late third, but mostly when he poked with the rines and lost a lot together with a few medivacs. If he'd waited for the hellbats to come out first the fight would be much closer. Of course there's still the colossus switch to worry about, but that's the penalty for having a crappier economy.

Good player knows how to scout third base. ForGG didnt scout and deserved to lose. Scouting has nothing to do with lag.

Grubby reacted to what he saw. He saw the fast 3rd CC and went for the immortal pressure + warp prism due to the lack of tech/units from the terran. The third game was also like that, as the oracle saw the stim being researched at the normal time and the factory coming down, so he took the third base before forgg could move out and attack. Reactionary attacks due to game knowledge. So yes, the more knowing (yet not as mechanically strong) Grubby beat the non-scouting (yet mechanically out of this world) ForGG.

Grubby just had the better unit composition, even with lower ping I wouldn't have seen forGG split against that. Not to mention forGG knew the situation and decided to go for splits vs storms instead of ghosts (sure then you also have problems with higher ping, but that's all things he knew beforehand). If it was just barely won by Grubby I could have agreed it was due to ping (would still have been deserved by Grubby. But this was a very clear and decisive victory of Grubby, stop trying to downplay it. Because lets face it, if forgg would have been in Europe you would have blamed jetlag.

The thing that really screwed ForGG over aside from not scouting that third base is how quickly Grubby got storm up. Against a standard zealot/archon midgame, there might have been a timing to pressure Grubby. But what Grubby did that was smart as HELL is skipping the robo to get to splash faster, also delaying his upgrades. Why? Well, because an oracle opening usually delays that. You'll want a double forge down usually and then head towards splash damage. Grubby actually just cut out the part where he needs upgrades to defend by having 7 freaking templar with storm research done when ForGG's initial moveout came.

Actually Grubby would have gotten those templar with storm out on 2 bases as well around the same time but they wouldn't help him at all. If you do this on 2 base then ForGG just says "alright, not gonna attack then. But guess what, you must have skipped something to get those out. Let me find out what's missing and abuse the hell out of it, expand and then do a big timing when I've got my counters set up." And Grubby was missing a robo and upgrades. But the thing is, getting that storm this fast in a scenario like this game where he takes a super early third makes sense because he can catch up in both upgrades and other tech a lot faster because he has a third.

Grubby was able to get a critical number of High Templar's with storm at an earlier time than would be possible on 2 base. So ForGG's army was outmatched due to the economy difference. And ForGG was not aware that Grubby had so many High Templars until it was too late.
No I think it's because he delayed robo + upgrades to get storm out quicker.
I understand his build was designed to go for early storm but I feel the main difference in the decisive battles was the extra base enabled Grubby to get a lot more High Templars than ForGG anticipated. So it was not just that he had storm, but that he was able to cast so many of them. A lot more than would be possible on two base economy.

Mostly people seem to argue that Grubby was better than ForGG today in the last set, I don't think people are arguing Grubby is the better player, let alone better than Hero and sOs? Grubby didn't win with pure luck and he didn't win because of a small micro-mistake, but this game he made the better decisions and won. I'm sure if they're playing in a LAN-environment for 99 games that ForGG would win more than half, but today he lost to Grubby who won through making better decisions.
I'd love for all this "the better player didn't go through" to stop at some point, there's no objective measurement for that so arguing like there is one is just silly. There are so many different skills one could master and so many circumstances beyond our control.

don't forget that forgg mainly qualified for the finals due to his tvt. he played very well in the first round of the finals, but he has been lacking consistency in the other matchups since forever.
Shine beat Bisu in BW. The better player doesn't always win but usually the one who performs better during the matches that count wins. Was Shine better than Bisu? Roflno. Was he better than Bisu when they played? Yeah, and screw hydra busts. Grubby may not be better than ForGG but he was the better player today so it's only fair to give him credit where it's due.

Yeah, ForGG is always fun to watch so it is a shame he's out so early. But Grubby is a good guy to have in the tournament as well.

TvZ is his weakness, he is quite good in TvP. But you are right he got through last season with TvT which shames me.
