Welmju with the godly PvP stats! Hopefully he'll deliver.

their casting style seems a bit different from before... more 'professional' i suppose? kinda like it's more scripted.

I give Apollos tie the highest score - 10/10. Beautifully played.

If the tie is wonky on @ApolloSC2 today, blame me.

So Redeye is responsible. Should have guessed, it is a gentlemans tie.

tsitsi! Powerful start by Welmu

Well done Welmu.
Screw Twitch, lag starts when the final attack begins, starts moving again when the victory screen appears.

Apollo and Kaelaris looking really sharp. Great shirt and tie combination from Apollo there.
That was also a great game from Welmu, doing everything right.

Welmu got Tempests. That should do it.

Welmu's army is terrifying

FFS Babyknight, you have a stargate! Build a phoenix to shut down the warp prism!!
|
|
I can't believe how passive BabyK is, he is just getting herassed to death.
|
I was hoping Welmu would use his tempests to snipe that third. I don't understand why Babyknight hasn't made a phoenix or a void ray to take out that warp prism.

Not targeting the colossi with tempest was such a blunder in the initial battle, he still has the game by the looks of it though.

if i were ret or thorzain playing against welmu, i would build a lot of missle turrets/ spore crawlers :D!

Really well-played PvPs from Welmu. The second game could have been less close if he just made more warpgates to begin with and focused all the colossi with his tempests in the first engagement.
|
I must admit that 720p does not lag, meanwhile 320p and 480p are laggy as hell for me ;O It affects both WCS Europe stream and Grubby's stream at the same time.

Yeah, PvP is still full of different openers (even a bit more so now), and has multiple lategame armies that can clash. Much better to watch instead of laser beams.
|
Does it work ok if you make 1 oracle just to use revelation for your tempests to snipe collossi? Tempest could shoot pretty far from its sight right?
|
I hope more PvP's go this way in the future. It was very rough around the edges but very entertaining to watch. Amazed Welmu was able to win a PvP without splash damage (unless you count Archons)
|
On July 10 2013 01:47 Wildmoon wrote: Does it work ok if you make 1 oracle just to use revelation for your tempests to snipe collossi? Tempest could shoot pretty far from its sight right? Yeah, it's something that's used once in a while, but not all that often. It would have been really good with the third base snipe, but I think it's harder against colossi because you risk getting blinked on.
|
Pretty sure Thorzain will win this one.
|
Love how they introduce players in a positive way: "Suffers from inconsistency," "Arguably past his peak."
|
On July 10 2013 01:47 Wildmoon wrote: Does it work ok if you make 1 oracle just to use revelation for your tempests to snipe collossi? Tempest could shoot pretty far from its sight right? I believe they have 15 range with extra damage against the colossi, so that's good. As for the oracle part, it's twice the gas of an observer and 3 supply to the observer's 1. Plus the vision's temporary. Also, it takes building time from your stargate while your robo is idle. Doesn't seem quite as practical.

One of the reasons that I like Apollo a lot as a caster is that I feel he doesn't bullshit as much as most. It's quite refreshing.

but most of the time protoss don't let their opponent's observer fly above their army.

I hate it so much when Zerg goes Baneling bust while you spawned in such a way that your Reactor is part of the wall.

Earlier in Welmu vs. BabyKnight he saw what Welmu scouted and said "he should get a third now" a few seconds before Welmu's third went down.

drop 6 hellbats on a single queen, wtf is thorzain doing

Man Ret handled that beautifully.

Ret is dead, or so I thought....LOL
|
Nice defence by Ret!! too bad for Thorzain that he commited it all at the front!
|
At this rate thorzain will entirely disappear after the patch.

Wow Apollo has the best analysis of any caster imo
|
Thorzain's play is lacking so much this days... 6 hellbats vs a queen, had half his army attack a geyer during that fight..
|
|
Wow, I didn't think that defense would have gone as well as it did for Ret. He did a really good job of kiting the hellbats away from the marauders with his roaches.

1200 minerals for Thorzain

Half of ThorZaIN's army was busy killing Ret's extractor. If he sent just two hellbats into the mineral line, he might have won the game right there if Ret reacted poorly. I think ThorZaIN confused hellbats for units that can actually fight.
|
Ret saving up for ultras? Has a ridiculous gas count.

Neither am i, but i still had some hopes left :<
Edit: well i guess Ret banking 2k gas and attacking into widow minefield helps though^^

It's quite funny how much praise the cast gets today for the analysis, while Demuslim complains about it :D.
Benjamin Baker @DeMusliM 14m
I do wish that commentators wouldn't dish out information, that was completely wrong.
I think also think the cast is great.

For me Wolf/Artosis is one of the best, if not the best analytical casting combo.

loool, just zero splits from thorzain at all, guess terrans are no longer used to fungals

Not defending and running your main army into over a dozen mines isn't the brightest move that is for sure, but he manages to squeak by. Cheering for Welmu.

Wow! Wow! I didn't think Ret could hold it together there at the end. Glad to be proven wrong. Been so disappointed many times with Zergs in great position only falling apart from not defending drops.

thorzain not the same since he joined EG.... i mean wtf ? no splitting or concave at all ... just a clump

That is what happens when you don't split at all I guess.

He's been doing very well previously, but has been in a slump for a while now. Interestingly he mentioned that he and Nani are both prone to deep slumps. Maybe it's a Swedish curse?

I think ThorZain let Flo play his games. The only explanation.

pretty sure both Protoss will advance from this group. kinda sucks cause i'd prefer the other two guys

Actually very few players have managed that kind of stuff. It's quite funny actually. I guess it helps when you've been married as long as Grubby and then there's Snute and a few others, but the vast majority have a hard time managing their time around both. There's a very strong correlation there.

I think lings are vital in stopping that. Lings tank quite well for their cost and obviously are way faster than roaches.. I would feel much better if I was only facing roaches than if I was facing roach/ling.

Not sure why Ret didn't really have any scouting at all in that game. Basically didn't know what was going to happen until it was right at his doorstep.

Really it's probably more to do with the copper wire either from the exchange to my house or at the exchange. I've heard other people complain about my exchange. That said, my best buddy is at a different exchange in a different suburb and he has similar issues on the same ISP with the same plan.
Oh and not quite frozen actually, just really slow all of a sudden (as in too slow for 240p). Once 4 minutes have passed it'll likely be fine, as that is usually how it goes. -_-¤

The metagame with Medivac-drops being so common makes Phoenixes very good, actually. They can protect flanks during forward pushes, kill off early mine or Hellbat drops as well as scout and later on tank in Colossus-based armies.

Sick read from Thorzain despite seeing 3 pylons knowing that a lot of gas was mined and a stargate is quite possible.

First time watching SC2 logged to stream in the middle of the game. Is Zerg having +50 supply advantage a normal situation or BabyKnight was already behind when I tuned in?

Depends on the build, it is not entirely uncommon if zerg goes heavy into low tech aggression.

don't know why everyone bashes this. When done well, this is what differentiates good tournaments from bad ones. For example, GSL finals are often tense and interesting based largely on the hype of tastosis, and yet people say that they don't want any of it. Any caster who cast a game like they were giving a live report on TL would be immediately flagged as lacking personality and such.

What did apollo mean when he said Babyknight was playing a bad game because he had 700 gas and no tech?
Stockpiling gas after a strong pressure is a normal tactic. You only don't want stockpile gas is you're going for something like a 7 gate (in which case, when your first attack fails, you immediately leave). But when you're not doing an insane all in, you want the options to 1) tech/ups, 2) mass sentry, or 3) just continue your pressure with options 1 and 2 still open for later if your pressure doesn't work out (what BK did).
Anyone else want to explain what he was thinking? I'm a bit curious. Did he interpret the 4 gate (it was 4 by BK, right? I wasn't paying a ton of attention) as a strong all in?

You surely ain't the only one that predicted these two :p

SC2 tournaments would be pretty insane if that were possible, actually I would be really interested to see how it would change the game but yeah it ain't happening.

Well, I think the first thing would be that it would make them really boring. Players will just turtle and bank resources in a lost game.

So this pretty much confirms that TL Zergs grows stronger by not shaving

I was really pulling for BabyK there, but it's nice to see Ret find some success again.

I feel ThorZaIN's pain all the way from LA
Get your stuff together you know you are 3 times as good as this when you actually play good.

Ofcourse I picked Ret. Silly non believers.

I used to cheer for Thorzain, but there was a tourney (I forget which one) where the map was half-split against a zerg where he had the clear advantage. Instead of capitalizing on that advantage he stretched the game out to something like 1.5 hours just doing stupid shit and never attacking even though there was no way for the Zerg to win. I know you gotta do what you gotta do to win, but that was not the play of a champion, or even a competitor. Good luck in the future Thorzain, but you lost a fan that day.
