The end of the regular season of GSTL is near, after the two last remaining matches, this one, MVP vs AZUBU and StarTale vs Incredible Miracle, These final two matches determine the 2 teams to move onto the playoffs and the 1 team that is out with all the others. The three teams that have playoff positions on the line are: AZUBU StarTale FXOpen e-Sports
Firstly we have AZUBU a fairly newly formed team that recently has received a lot of controversy surrounding the team and how the company earned it's money has they previously sponsored 2 league of legends teams, a league(the CSL),they also started AZUBU TV a streaming service that was supposed to compete with twitch.tv .
Next we have StarTale a team a year ago had the strongest lineup and one of the claims at the best team in the world, but with the start of the new year, both PartinG and Squirtle had left for what they saw as greener pastures. And now in the late middle of the year StarTale has some-what struggled with their superstar Life slumping as of late and apparently has been playing LoL lately they are no longer looking like they what they use to be and have now become a team with rookies looking to develop their talents and turn them into new superstar players.
And finally but definitely not least we have FXO the former two time GSTL champions, look to be in a desire situation where their own fate is not decided by themselves but of the final 2 matches and who wins or who loses. As of late their team has also looked considerably weaker then they use to be their super aces Leenock and GuMiho are part of why they aren't doing so hot lately because they themselves haven't been the hottest in terms of gameplay. That could all change if they can make the playoffs, GuMiho & Leenock will definitely be training if they make it to the playoffs and those results have shown in the past with GuMiho's all kill's in the previous GSTL finals and Leenocks clutch play to help FXO make it into the playoffs in one season where he defeated DRG in a crucial ace match.
MVP vs AZUBU:
Coming into this match MVP is in first place, AZUBU doesn't need to win this match to make the playoffs they just need to win a few games and then have StarTale lose, i'm sure they would rather win now and not worry about other teams winning or losing.
AZUBU's 3 Key Players: viOLet: Violet has looked decent in HOTS, his weakest matchup seems to be zerg vs zerg with a less than 50% winratio while his other matchups are at 80%+ , Violet is a player of getting a few kills for AZUBU, he will be key if AZUBU wants a good start going into the rest of this match.
Symbol: Symbol has not looked nearly as good as he use to in teamleagues, and has become quite average in them, his weakest match up in HOTS has been vs Protoss, he seems like he doesn't know how to beat Protoss and even if does have an advantage he can get cocky and throw it away.
SuperNova: As of late supernova has looked sharper then ever, his TvZ and TvP look fantastic, he recently made it past his WCS KR ro32 group defeating some of the best protosses and then now in his ro16 group has defeated his zerg opponent KanHo formerly Losira 2-0. He has shown no weakness vs any race thus far in HotS.
MVP's 3 Key Players: Super: After his defeat to SuHoSin back in WOL and back when he was known has Vampire he has looked a lot more super like, his vsT record only has 1 loss on it, his other match ups have less games but they are all still above a 60% win ratio.
KeeN: A player formerly known as a celebration king has gone serious and has played some good games and has steadily improved, a player that could get an all-kill one day and no kills the next, Keen has also looked very strong in TvP.
NAKSEO: We have not seen him too much in HotS but we do know he is a solid zerg, his weakest matchup in hots is ZvZ if you were to look at statistics alone, however 4 of his zvz losses were to Hyun & Curious, it's definitely possible to see him used as a zvz sniper for violet or symbol.
Prediction: Starting match: KeeN viOLet
Overall I think this will no doubt be a tough match for AZUBU, I think the main weak point for them will be Protosses like Super and Tails or maybe we could see Swagger, heck even some lesser looked at players like Billowy and duckdeok(formerly known as Lure and finale respectively) could come out .
Pretty excited last two matches actually. Azubu and ST are fighting for playoff spots, and IM actually still has a chance to qualify 1st if MVP trip and fall at the last hurdle. Been an Axiom-Acer man I'm cheering my heart out for ST and AZU!

When there's a chance of DRG, they can't be far behind :p

It hasn't really been 24/7 lately, WCS KR & EU only air twice a week.

The remaining 2 matches will determine all the places in the playoffs actually. If MVP loses 0-4 and IM wins 4-1, IM leap to first. IM can even go as far as fifth if they lose bad enough to ST and Azubu win. The playoffs are still pretty complicated. I thought about making a table but I don't really feel like writing a script to figure out all the possibilities since this match is already in 5 hours.

Works the other way too. In which MVP loses 1-4 and IM wins 4-0. If MVP wins at least 2 games they are in the grand finals as 1st.
IM can win by any score tomorrow to secure 2nd as long as they win. Else AA cannot fall from 2nd as they've beaten Startale.
I decided to do all the outcomes. The Image is pretty big so people will have to manually view it. For some reason imgur won't upload properly for me so I used tinypic
Now, disclaimer. I used the warnings FROM MEMORY so I'm not entirely sure if they are all correct. As far as I know they are the second tiebreaker after mapscores. After warnings, I'm not sure if it is head to head. So if my memory of the warning counts is wrong then some of the results may change.
Also I forgot to save the file hahaha so if I did make mistakes someone will have to manually redo the thing

Just checked, and I do have an error. ST only have ONE warning instead of two. However, as ST lost to Azubu, Azubu still own the third probable tie breaker and my table is still correct. Too lazy to redo the thing since there isn't a difference in outcomes anyway.

Okay so the way I see it MVP totally messed up by throwing Keen out first.
He will probably take down violet, but it's just asking for a snipe from azu, and without Keen i doubt they can stop the mystery van. I would say vines/inca/ganzi/b4 are the possible snipers, and even if they only take out keen it's smooth sailing for azubu from then on. Symbol is probably third-ZvP is his weakest matchup. Supernova, on the other hand, has shown strength in all things and with his 2-0 in the ro32, I don't doubt that he would be able to take on the MVP tricksters. Between the twin esses, Azubu should take the series easily, especially considering the fact that most of MVP appears to have fallen to the side of the road after hots

I don't think the snipers on the azubu bench have what it takes to reliably take out Keen. Their roster has good names like GEnius/B4/Ganzi but they all seem to be on the hardest slump for ages. I do think however that Supernova and Symbol will be to much to handle for MVP.
Then again maybe vampire wants that Most Valuable Player award really badly.... anything could happen. (Also DRG is still a champion and couuuuld potentially always flip the switch)
Keen > Violet Keen > Sleep (derf we don't want IM to get 1st place and make FrostedMiniWheats happy nyahh!) Keen < Symbol Monster < Symbol DRG < Symbol Super > Symbol Super < SuperNova

Apart from IM games GSTL is getting less and less exciting each week it feels. Proleague/WCS just seem way more exciting :/
I actually really like watching GSTL but It's too infrequent, two matches a week and they take 1-3 week breaks because of other events.
I really like it as well, though I don't know if its because of production or I just like the players. In any event I hope spl assimilates some of the more successful teams into proleague so I can see them more often.

That would be awesome. You could have a similar setup like in American sports with two separate conferences where the championship is one team from each conference.

For me it's both, the GOM production and wolf & khaldor's casting is great, then you have all the good eSF players that we rarely get to see play because you only get so many matches in WCS unless you're getting to ro8+.

What I think the GSTL lacks is some pomp, really. It just doesn't feel like a big deal while the SPL always feels like it's enormous even if you're just doing more grinding in the standings in Round 4 week three or whatever. Not sure what can be done but it just doesn't feel so important. But yeah, I do enjoy the whole team thing and seeing appearances of people who months later do great in individual tournaments.

Fair enough, but the hellbats themselves did near zero damage, and every single drop died, both medivacs and hellbats. violet got the better end of that.
And the spines and spores helped against later drops from keen too.

The match will be a Bo5 with a TBD map pool. I figure we could just use one of the map pools from one of the WCS regions, with a pre-set map 1 and loser picks afterwards? Or we could just use ladder maps as you should be more used to those, with the same map selection process.

Everything was just looking so great in last October/November when there was Bomber for Terran, Parting for Protoss and Life for Zerg. Plus the army of lesser players that ST has.
I wish pro players would be better on average at making scvs. If I can make 50 by 10 min in 1rax expand without a quick 3rd cc, surely a 3rd cc could get that done by 10 min too. But I see so many games with players having like 42 at 9:50. Guess there's more on the map and all but still.
Khaldor and Wolf have been a bit distracted in this game. Bang was trading inefficiently in his pushes because his reinforcements kept trickling in without any organization.

It happens all the time in real sports too. In the NFL when teams clinch the number 1 playoff spot they often rest their starters the last game or 2. Same goes for NBA

Because MVP couldn't fall from 1st place after Keen took out Symbol. They only needed 2 wins to be guaranteed a spot in the grand finals. After that the score only mattered for other team rankings.
Notice immediately after Keen had done his job we saw Shine, Swagger, and Bang. Guys who haven't been played all season.
Can't blame them though. They clawed their way to having a large enough lead, they can do whatever they want. I'd of sent my flunkies out too for a chance to get some experience. Turn them into winners, like IM did with theirs.
I had a feeling MVP would pull a Woongjin as soon as they played Shine after Keen. In any case, I couldn't be more pleased that MVP secured the top spot!

Ah I didn't realize MVP was so secure in their spot, thanks. That makes a lot of sense.
