will be interesting to see if WCG will be a WCS tier 1 tournament, or give any WCS points at all, seeing as WCS is kind of the SCII replacement for WCG.

Oh god please don't remind me of that, probably one of the worst starcraft 2 games I have ever watched. Funny how wcg is actually still around, I figured they switched to mobile games?

well even in sc2 ... its still 20k isnt it ? so all who can will play ^^ also canada had no sc1 spot for so long, they will be happy with it so scarlett has a spot haha
So I'm confused, are all the individual lans going to be playing against each other online? If that is the case, every lan has 12 PM start even though they're spread across multiple time zones?

tbh the format is quite silly. I would have love to participate but the way it works is this tournament gives seeding, there will be another online tournament giving seeding for the last tournament and the last tournament is open so seeding helps but its not mandatory/required.

While I respect the mods decision and their right to ban this person, I would like to say I'm really quite disappointed in this decision. There's nothing offensive in that post or in the video, and it seems like this person just got banned for mentioning he who must not be named. Obviously I'm biased as a Canadian wanting the most skilled representation in the WCG and being one of many who created an account here during the SC2 beta I never saw the full extent of CombatEx's BM and I realize that. Still though... Just wanted to politely voice my discontent at that ban.
Anyways, I actually just wanted to post asking if somebody could link the bracket?

WCG is the only time I watch Warcraft 3, so I guess I still care about WCG for that game since the Chinese scene is still strong enough to make for some decent entertainment.
This is the first year for Street Fighter and if top players show up I'll get hyped for that.
LoL and SC2 at WCG are pretty much irrelevant given all the other tournaments/leagues for those two.
WoT's other leagues provide what'll probably be better content than what's at WCG, but it might be interesting for fans of that game to see how an Asian team fares against a Russian team since the scenes haven't mixed much. Of course, WoT at WCG will share the big problem that team games at WCG often face: national roster restrictions. Don't expect to see any top level EU or RU teams since a lot of them don't have a roster of just one nationality (to the best of my knowledge, I don't really follow WoT so I could be wrong about that community's perception of WCG).
I assume FIFA and Crossfire fans would care about WCG since there isn't too much else out there for those games. I could see WCG working well for FIFA.
Personally, I'm a fan of multiple genres of competitive gaming and love events that run multiple games and used to love WCG, but I don't know how hype I can get for it this year. WC3, WoT, and AE are the only games of the seven that I think I might enjoy watching. Of those, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy watching WCG's WC3, not sure about AE, and sure I won't enjoy WoT.

he got super duper lucky and took a game off parting. and was totally outclassed the other 2 games. yes taking a game off (at the time) arguably the best protoss in the world is a remarkable feat, in a bo7 or bo9, i'd wager he wouldn't take more than the one game. even in coinflippy pvp

How did he get super lucky when he beat parting? If you watched the game on antiga, he completely outplayed parting. Also, he wasn't even outclassed in the other two games. In the game with the proxy two-gate, he just sent out his zealots a bit too late.

Pretty sure it was a PBU.
What's a PBU?
And so am I to assume Huk, Scarlett, desrow, and the like are gonna be participating in another WCG qualifier?.....Since I recognize so few names in the bracket? Or are a lot of the pro's just not bothering with WCG anymore??
Why the fuck was this so quiet, HuK was trying to find information about it for a while he tweeted about it multiple times and it doesn't look like he played in it. Sad...WCG will always remain a silly silly thing for sc2.

I liked seeing combat at wcg. He seemed really happy to have the opportunity and went up to shake parting's hand after the match, interacted with the crowd, etc.
I really don't see the hate with CombatEX. Funny how his name is so taboo, while his sc2 "career" is more"prestigious" than some foreign EG players (even if he only went to WCG).

Last year most of the top tier Canadians skipped the event, I think because it was on the same weekend as another event (MLG or something?) Looks like they're skipping it this year too.
For some reason the top tier players aren't competing in WCG Canada, but there isnt any reason for this ... really!
Basically WCG is the best deal for second tier international players. By that I mean, you get to represent your country to the gaming event that has the most media reach and global spectators in the year, no travelling expenses and you have a chance to compete against the very best and maybe get 25k out of it ... not bad! I don't get why players like Kane and Scarlett skip this event.
As for HuK, well he is trying for WCG USA because he didn't want spend money to travel to the National Final. I mean, Canada is big and there's not much any player/team/event organizers can do to fix this :x It also fairly expensive to fly from one location in Canada to another!
Desrow, Hendralisk, Jig and other good Canadians will probably benefit from this event!
On August 31 2013 01:27 suzuki14 wrote: Both Scarlett and huk wont play?what a pity
Isn`t Scarlett having trouble with her wrist or something? Regardless of who plays, it's a BIG opportunity for every Canadian SC2 players to get known by winning this event!
On August 31 2013 01:27 suzuki14 wrote: Both Scarlett and huk wont play?what a pity
It would have been too one sided then. #1 scarlett #2 Huk ... This way has more suspense actually.
This event, yes, but it would create a better WCG grand finals. As it is now, Canadas representative will probably not have any chance against the koreans, Sen or Hasu. And if I understood twitter correctly, Nerchio and Vortix will try to qualify for the main event as well.
Btw., has anyone a working bracket for this? I searched on their site, but it seems to be harder to find than a Wednesday Go4SC2-Cup on ESL.
So, watching the stream... could they have found a better graphic? And why is that flag made out of glossy latex? The waving animation is bad.
As to why other players don't attend... could it have something to do with -
- 1st: All expenses paid trip to China (Approximate value of $2,500)
- 2nd: DX Racer Chair
- 3rd: Motherboard GIGABYTE G1.Sniper M5
Sure, you could get to WCG World finals in China. But does WCG give any WCS points? Seems like a good opportunity to get out there, but not sure of the reward value for someone compared to doing well in WCS / Code S.
So what is happening at the moment? According to LP there were 6 players qualified before the event (hendralisk, Jig, desrow, Bones, Ineffable, Andro) and then 4 players joined them through groups. Now the second players play a WC group, so probably 1-2 of them will get through as well. That leaves 11-12 players at the national finals. What do they do with that? Just give 4-5 byes?
What's happening right now is the commentators and everyone watching is face-desking hard because the two guys playing WILL NOT MAKE AN AIR UNIT. Against armies that don't shoot up.
Seriously. Hellbats/Tanks/medivacs/ghosts versus Immortal/Zealots (no charge)/archon/templar
Okay, there's some anti-air there, but they've been both stuck on those compositions for about 10 minutes so far, with no change and lousy upgrades.
51 minutes. What the hell did I just watch? The terran eventually won.
Well, if it is an open bracket, I better say nothing, the guys are probably not professional and if I would play an open bracket, it would probably look even worse.

They're not professional - for the most part, they're good amateurs. (Yes, probably better than the average TLer.)
Yeah this map pool... Akilon Wastes • Whirlwind • Bel'Shir Vestige • Daybreak • Star Station • Neo Planet S • Red City • Atlas • Cloud Kingdom Only THREE of those nine maps are in the current map pool. And there's a good chance some or all of those three will be taken out of the ladder pool by the end of the year, when the WCG final is played.

I'm glad for Hendralisk. He seems like he's gotten so close just to fall short of qualifying for major tournaments a whole lot recently. Maybe this could be his big breakout tournament.
