Exactly, if you don't tell rules before hand it is implied you use the standard rules...

Spain using head to head first can make sense because there can be ties in football, but not in starcraft 2 !

Apparently I'm through to the next round of ESET UK Masters anyway. :D I guess beating ForGG was pretty important. Poor him though. :/

Looks like the players didn't knowe the format.

For players their is no excuse if they were given or told the rules. This should be standard in each and every tournament to know the rules.

This should be standard in each tournament for the admins to explain the rules to the players.

They claim they did.

Done with the drama then

If players don't bother to remember it properly that's there fault.

Define "tell"? If the rules were there from the start then nothing is implied.

ties have nothing to do with it making sense or not - if there is a tie its just like they never played... the rule only comes to effect for the cases where there is no tie.

Well, either they didn't brief every player or there were at least two players who were inattentive at the briefing.

players are incredibly inattentive when it comes to such things - maps and tie-breaker rules... very many players are always badly prepared (TLO doesnt even actually care about the tie-breaker rules before he finished playing, you should play your best anyways)

players usually don't concern themself with it and play to win. Following the mapscores and calculating your position would just takes away concentration needlessly. Sucks though if an Admin gives you the wrong information.

And tournament oragnisers don't care much either. It's very common that tie happnes in group stages and organisers have no clue what rules they should use.
