EG, Karont3, Millenium, Fnatic, Nrs, ROOT, Quantic and many others have a good shot if they participate.

EG, Karont3, ROOT and Quantic would definitely make for the best tournament.

I'm really glad to see a major team league. There is clearly a lack of this kind of tournaments and it's sad because, as Goswser said, team leagues are awesome ! The prize pool is huge and I have to congratulate Acer and TaKe for this initiative.

By the way, I have a little question for the admins :
1.2 ACE If a team is down to 'x : 4' (one more loss equals to a lost match) the loser can be replaced by a player, who played already and lost his game. Every player who´ve lost already can be chosen.
1.5 Revive Two times a season it is possible to revive a player. This means a player that played and lost in a running clanmatch is able to play again.
Does the revive have anything to see with the ace or not ? I mean, it's not stipulated in the "Ace" section that the team has only 2 possibilities to revive a player. I guess the "Revive" section refers to a revival before that a team is down to 'x/4', am I right ?

we should rly do a support acer campaign like we did for lg!

Aplication Sent, this is exactly what we needed a strong Europe based team league.
|
Wow, this is going to be great! Really looking forward to this.

This needs more attention. A good prize pool and some great invited teams already. Interested to see who tries out for being a caster.

So we're going to see the qualifiers to determine the other four teams first? Cool! I love teamleagues.

from the wording of it you should also be able to use your two revives in 1 match and even cast the spell twice on the same player (although I am not sure its a good idea to revive someone who lost 2 matches in that clan match already^^)

wow so good! Offline foreign tournament. gogo TL

I would love to see some unkown team break through, but I am also thrilled at the thought that some eSF team will participate in a foreign team league. Might stimulate the GSTL to open up as well?
|
This looks pretty awesome! Clarity Gaming's application has been submitted!
I do have a couple of questions though, and I think maybe others might be confused as well?
As a former league admin I would like to state as pretext that I read through the entirety of your rules. I do have a few questions. 1. What is a joker? Is this a player who is on a different team that can be played for our team during a league match? 2. Ace player - Does the ace player only come in when a team is down 0-4? Currently the rules state you can use a player from the current match who has already lost to fill the 'Ace' slot. How does this work if there are only 2 'Revives' available to a team for the entire season? 3. When are you expecting the qualifiers and the official cup to start? I did not see any dates in the Original Post or the Rules.
Thanks! -winteR

Signed up, what would be AMAZING for an event like this, is have a Home Story Cup kind of component to it (maybe for the finals, maybe not for this particular event), where you can get two teams in a similar setup as you would for HSC, cover maybe HALF the travel costs for up to 5-6 people, and have 2 teams stay at the same place, have the same dynamic of HSC except with clear commentator BIAS (players rooting for their teams) which would bring up more arguments, personality, rivalry.
Not to say that this isn't an awesome tournament without it, but when I read TeamStoryCup and TaKe that's what I imagined it and I was SOOOOO Excited for the idea.

If TaKe could do that, it would be amazing. It would probably do so much for the teams in terms of exposure, and the chance to have all of your team's players gain positive exposure and fans like that is so valuable.
|
WOW that's a lot of money to split between 4 teams! This should be sick as fuck.
|
Nice to see something replacing IPTL.
|
The Revival idea is awesome: "Two times a season it is possible to revive a player. This means a player that played and lost in a running clanmatch is able to play again."
Also just to clarify why are the games being played on US server when both players are in EU? "Games are to be played on the following Battle.net locations: US when both players are located in the EU or Asia."
It also doesn't make sense with the rule that comes afterwards: "The 'home team' will chose the server region."
|
Awesome! Excited for another good team league, especially with IPTL probably disappearing.
I agree with Catz that it would be cool if a Homestory-ish live aspect could be worked into the later parts of the tournament, though I realize the logistics of that could be difficult. Either way, I'm looking forward to it!
On March 07 2013 10:49 partydude89 wrote: Eg isn't invited, but Mousesports it?
Based on the four invites and the fact that it's a TakeTV event, I think it's aiming to be a little more of a Euro-centric tournament, which is fine by me.

So is this gonna be offline? I mean 14 days sounds long but it sounds like a HomeStory Cup Team event and the HSC's are offline. I wouldn't be suprised if this event is online only or online and then offline finals.

$10k for first place, which is to be split by I'm guessing 7 to 8 people? Pretty low prize pool imo. Hopefully its at least $15k for first next time

That's actually pretty high for a teamleague. In comparison: IPTL pays $9k to the champion (with a total prize pool of $22k) EG Master Cup pays $5k to the champion (total prize pool of $10k) NASL's teamleague paid $6k to the champion (total prize pool of $10k)
Other than that one random Asian teamleague that had a $40k total prizepool, the only teamleagues that have much larger prizepools are the GSTL and Proleague, but those are not really comparable for obvious reasons.

half the travel costs for 5-6 people per team adds up to a whole hell of a lot lol. I mean it would be sick, but i dont think its realistic. Just glad to see more teamleagues popping up though, as they are very very exciting

Excited to see some more of Axiom Ret and TLO have looked more than prepared to pick up the slack from an injured Taeja and a struggling Hero (don't worry Hero, I know you'll get your mojo back, Up&Downs ain't no thang) Would be cool to see how Scarlett's skills transfer over to HoTS and I love me some MMA

Yes, it is quite a lot. Assuming 7 players, that is around $1,400 which is close to the Code S Ro32 pay.

Hey Guys,
we will provide you with some more information very soon We also had alot of stuff to do with the cebit BUT! I saw some question i would love to answer and i think you might like them!!
We cover 1500 Dollar travelexpenses to support the teams Plus! Hotels for the teams so that they don t have to pay all the costs!!! I hope this shows that we want to help the teams and we know its expensive to send 4-5 players!
Beside that this will be an onlineleague with the top 4 qualifying for the offline finale which is 2 days (Saturday/Sunday) at my place!!
More information will come!! Stay tuned and awesome first feedback <333 i am an old wc3 player and played several wc3l saisons and i was aiming for this teamleague for along time and i am happy that acer and also intel is supporting me with that <3 but also don t forget about roccat and needforseat who support the whole thing too!
Times for the qualifiers will be also announced offiicially very soon but we have to wait for an official go but it will be soon! All teams be prepared!

TaKe, I love you so much right now.
I miss team leagues a la WC3L and NGL One so, sooooooo much. There are team leagues in SC2, but they are replay casts (which kills hype), have too little prize money and are, for selfish reasons, broadcasted too late for EU. We even have offline finals now which elevates this on a much higher level.
Some clans have actually stopped signing players because team leagues didn't matter anymore. They focused on few individual players that carry their brand. I want a thriving clan scene back where clan membership actually matters, where we have aces, snipers, matchup specialists and support players, where fans can be happy when a new player is signed, not only because he wears another jersey but because he strengthens their team.
I hope the players, clans and the community work together to make this an awesome tournament and have many iterations of it!

Of course its hots, its stated in the rulebook: "2.1 All games have to be played with the most up to date version of "StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm". Everything else would be ridiculous

Brilliant idea to have a team league like this :D

That is Awesome news that the finals are offline, like AWESOME. Its not speficied in the thread though, and you should make sure teams signing up for the qualifiers are down to cover the rest of the costs to Germany (travel for 4-5, especially for NA / KR teams, isn't a small amount) ROOT will play the heck out of this league! this is awesome news, not getting the hype it deserves, should edit the thread and make sure everyone knows its offline finals HSC style... just, amazing. <333 you TaKe and FU for not inviting us directly.

Oh, I just read about the map pool
ESL Antiga Shipyard ESL Cloud Kingdom ESL Daybreak ESL Entombed Valley ESL Metropolis ESL Ohana GSL Whirlwind (Arcade) Blizz Newkirk District Blizz Akilon Flats
You might want to change the pool after the qualifier. A lot of people have uttered dissatisfaction about the IEM WC map pool as some maps are getting quite old.

I have been waiting for a team cup for so long! so cool!

Hey,
i try to answer some of your questions!
1. What is a joker? Is this a player who is on a different team that can be played for our team during a league match? This can be an external player for the teamroster. (To help smaller Teams) For example: the joker for Team Liquid is Grubby. So Grubby will play this season for Teamliquid and is treated like every other player in the roster. (this is just an example!)
2. Ace player - Does the ace player only come in when a team is down 0-4? Currently the rules state you can use a player from the current match who has already lost to fill the 'Ace' slot. How does this work if there are only 2 'Revives' available to a team for the entire season? The joker is "just" a player. The acematch can be played by any player in the roster - what happend before in the clanwar isn´t relevant.
The ´revives´ are esp. for smaller teams to be able to play even with only 3 ppl. without a penalty.
3. When are you expecting the qualifiers and the official cup to start? I did not see any dates in the Original Post or the Rules. We can´t right now - i´m sorry.
When is the deadline to hand in the app to play? At the time we could announce the dates - a deadline will be included.
will this be online, in studio, live, recorded? more info plx !!! the qualifier and league will be played online, the final 4 will play an offline event at our appartment in germany.
cover maybe HALF the travel costs for up to 5-6 people Every team get a fix rate to settle up the costs.
US when both players are located in the EU or Asia." It also doesn't make sense with the rule that comes afterwards: "The 'home team' will chose the server region." You´re right, it´s a mistake. It should be fixed soon (If player 1 is located in eu and the player2 in kr the game should be played on us.)
I´m not 'able' to answer all questions - i'm sorry!

good shit
hoping for some hsc flair for the finals, team-looping louie tournaments and stuff
|
Btw, I know this is offtopic but dunno where else to say it...
If some TL admin reads this: we'd love to have Karont3 logo in the "favourite team" section in our profiles

As Ryo said above id love if that would be possible for NewRoSoft also.

If you want great spanish casters, take The Argie and Takashi. They are always in international tournamets doing a great job, and also they are appreciated by spanish fans. Please, let them cast for spanish fans!!!! Thanks!!!
|
We want @TheArgie to cast in spanish !

SO AWESOME! HSC TEAMCUP!! Man, i love you! =)
If EG and/or Empire qualify for the offline-part i will WALK to Krefeld and watch it!

Thanks to the guys that gave us a heads up, we applied for it. We hope to bring you some sick SC2 action with Takashi ♥
|
We want @TheArgie and @SCTakashi for the spanish casters.

|
who will be casting from the taketv apartement then? Rotti and MrBitter?
|
the joker for Team Liquid is Grubby. So Grubby will play this season for Teamliquid and is treated like every other player in the roster. ^-- Just the thought of that made me grin from ear to ear!
Anyway, nice tournament! Looking forward to seeing this thing kick off!
|
Great stuff.
As i see it every team can apply? Even nonames? That is great!
Is it possible to change/add additional players to the lineup at a later time?
Thanks for establishing this new team league!
|

Every Team can send us an application but we have to look how many teams like to participate and its not sure if every team could play.

So happy to finally see this happening! Thanks to Acer for helping TAKE throw the event. I'm hoping to see mostly foreign teams qualify for this event, such as ROOT!

So its HotS I see. How are we supposed to provide IDs and Codes for a game we dont have yet? We dont have codes yet? Or are they the same in Wings as they are in Hots?

just a guess but they should be the same - if you upgrade your wol bnet account with hots.

so how does a team get chosen after they apply?

Amazing job TaKe, incredibly pumped for this.
|
Signed up my team, Team Xperience.
I hope we get a shot at this awesome opportunity to show our style and play versus the best! Goodluck have fun playing/watching all!

Best of luck to all the teams that participate!

On March 08 2013 03:56 neoghaleon55 wrote: so how does a team get chosen after they apply?
The winner /finalists of the qualifier will get chosen, i guess?! ^^ I would imagine they have two qualifier, one for EU and one for USA/KR , because you have to select between those two regions when you apply.
Dunno how many applicants you can expect... maybe 4-16 per qualifier? I guess the qualifiers are going to be quite time consuming... but who knows how many teams actually apply. I think all of them that are willing to send their players to the offline finals are allowed to play the qualifier. But actually with at least 2000€ prizemoney for the offline playoffs + 1500€ for travel expenses + free hotel, you could be almost be more than break even... european teams for sure.. for flights from overseas/korea it could get close.
The actual tournament could be 2 groups with 4 teams each. So 8 teams have to play 3 matches each = 24 matches on 12 playdays + 2 playdays for the offline final = 14 playdays as stated in the op. Thats how i would do it at least^^
/end of speculation
|
This sounds amazing, especially the 4 team offline finals!

That is just insane ! Acer and Take are sooo smart !

Excited for this! Love everything Take does. Been really enjoying the content during IEM, too. It's neat watching the old games and seeing how much sc2 has changed. Plus, free 1080p!!! You can count on it, as the HSC qualifiers were casted always. I hope Take gets a good english caster in time, as his own english casts lack somewhat of skill, compared to his german ones

Alien Invasion and Millenium should try to qualify for this tournament. ^_^
|
My money on Fnatic/Millenium/Empire/Quantic qualifying.
That is unless LG-IM decided to join.

I am going to bet on ROOT/Quantic/empire with the fourth being any of a number of teams. clarity could do it or eh I don't know. roxkis could most likely do if the try and qualify.

So which one of them beats the eSF team which decide on participating?
|
1 NA qualifier 1 NA/KR qualifier 2 EU qualifier
Correct?
EDIT:
Hmm, OP says two qualifier. So 1 NA/EU and 1 NA/KR?

all of them naturally that's kind of the point of them qualifying and the esf teams not. though I could see one of the esf teams taking the fourth spot now that you mention it.

Ok, so I signed my team up, but are there any way to get some confirmation =) So im sure I did it all right =)
And if is possible to see what teams have joined so far ? =)

Yes, a qualifier page or bracket would be nice so we can see who is competing and what matches to tune in to!
I hope EG are involved, it would be a bit unfair for Liquid to be invited and for EG to not even try and qualify.

Unfortunate brackets... Either MVP or FXO Korea? TT I would rather see one of them in the other half of the bracket. EG can still qualify through the all na qualifier. but im curious how a 9th team can fit into the tournament system? and i dont quite understand why NA teams get a special treatment... well i do understand that from a marketing perspective you have to make EG qualify by all means necessary.. but thats why they got an easy bracket :D
all na qualifier is NA/KR qualifier minus MVP and FXO korea anyhow..
but thats enough of nit picking... im so hyped for this :D

I heard that the qualifiers will only be streamed on TaKeTV. I understand that for the main tournament, it'll be the case and it's normal, TaKe is the organizer and he deserves the exclusiveness. However, for the qualifiers, when 4 or 8 series will be played at the same time, it'd be great to have multiple streams so that the fans can follow their favourite teams.

What format will be used with 9 teams? Will each team play vs each other team once? And then the 4 best placed teams go to the LAN finals?
Also, will there be a Homestorycup on top of this this summer, or only the Teamstorycup finals?

When it was only 8 teams, they announced Round Robin with 14 playdays, assuming they keep the system it would go up to 18 playdays where each week one team doesn't have to play.
4 best teams of this league go to the offline finals at takes home in Krefeld.

Btw there is something strange with the map pool, someone mentionned earlier : ESL Antiga Shipyard, ESL Cloud Kingdom, ESL Daybreak, ESL Entombed Valley, ESL Metropolis, ESL Ohana, GSL Whirlwind (Arcade), Blizz Newkirk District, Blizz Akilon Flats
But know TakeTV.net indicate Newkirk City, Akilon Wastes, Cloud Kingdom, Ohana, Whirlwind , Akilon Flats, Daybreak, Star Station, Planet S, but Akilon Wastes/Flats are basicaly the same map. I guess it's safe to assume that it's a mistake and one the akilon maps is Antiga, but confirmation would be nice.

When it was only 8 teams, they announced Round Robin with 14 playdays, assuming they keep the system it would go up to 18 playdays where each week one team doesn't have to play. 4 best teams of this league go to the offline finals at takes home in Krefeld. 9 teams would be 16 playdays
how would that be possible? Without a team having multiple matches each week. With an uneven number of teams in a league you have to go up a team, which represents a team having a week off each week. (A-B C-D E-F G-H I-Free) So you can imagine it as being a league of 10 teams -> 18 playdays.

I am missing Alien Invasion or Dignitas in the list of participants for the qualifier, I hope they are participating in the next one. Also a shame that there are so many tiny (sometimes even one-man) teams outside of Korea, which disqualifies them from playing in team leagues.

Well tiny teams can form allies with other teams for team tournaments. I heard Monchi mention that he will play for Fnatic in this one.

This.
Having applied for the qualifiers and then being sent provisional dates it's a big surprise to suddenly find out that your team isn't even in it..
|
Are MVP and FXO the only two Korean eSF teams that applied? Must've been the case since I can see no other in the bracket. The offline finals probably prevents most of them from participating. Good for the NA and SEA teams, I guess.

No, Grubby will play for FXO.kr, the TeamLiquid thing was just an example used to explain the format/function of the extra player.

Yes they initially planned with 8 teams but decided to give a 9th spot to an american team so the american market has another team to root for. (theehee) Its a bit weird because now you always have one team thats always behind one game in the ranking. Would have been nice if you had a clear ranking after each week but i guess its not soo bad

Indeed, and there was no way they could have forseen that and cancelled their participation. Oh well, too bad for the teams who wanted to have a shot at the qualifier but were denied because EG was invited...
On other note: OMG, Acer vs MVP in the first week! Karont3 vs Millenium will be the start up game, also not bad. edit: Root also couldn't have asked for a harder opponent. With the recent performances of TLO, Ret, Snute, the foreign division of TL looks as strong as ever.

From what I understand, it's all kill format but as the last player, they can use a player who's already played and lost once. It sounds like it makes it even better than standard all kill for teams with only one really strong player.
Edit: Oh, so revive is something different from being able to send out a player for the 2nd time for the ace match?

Don't try to take away from MaNa's accomplishments of taking out two fairly strong Korean Terrans, especially because one almost made it to Code S (Center). He did get it good with build-orders, but you can't deny that he beat them, exploitive build or not.

Well, it's hard to justify calling it an allkill if he only got 4 kills in a Bo9. Not saying it isn't impressive, but rules are rules :p
But if mouz revives Mana and then he beat Hyun and gets all 5 wins in this Bo9, then I'll allow it :p

You can also scout with an SCV, like zerg does with its drones to be prepared to 11 11.

Although MaSsan and Apoc are pretty good players, they don't compare to HwangSin Center and HyuN. Even then, Center and HyuN are the only 2 that can be sent as aces. Actually, I think some of their "academy" players are probably better than their main roster players. I think the line-up of Quantic includes the academy. However, which member of the Academy would you expect to defeat MaNa, Heromarine and the ace probably against MaNa again? I don't think you read my post very well. I said that I felt some Quantic Academy players were better than some Quantic Main players. I think your question is thus invalid, right?
Nice ace match going on! I love when both team's best players are sent out as aces instead of relying on cheese or possible upsets.

Mouz teamleague squad down from ThorZaIN, MorroW, HasuObs, biGs and MaNa to MaNa alone and still winning. :D

I guess that means MaNa really did All Kill! In a different sort of system =P Great games from him^^
I feel HyuN is having a hard time in Quantic. He really had no clue what he was doing in that last game.

I feel HyuN is having a hard time in Quantic. He really had no clue what he was doing in that last game. Not that HyuN is having a bad time in Quantic, because he did really good in ladder and showed strong ZvP occasionally, but MaNa just seems to be HyuN's kryptonite.

True, you are right. In some noock of my brain, I grouped Axiom and Acer together.

Undewhelming announcement but it makes sense since they're paying his trip to the Gamers Assembly. I was kind of hoping for Dimaga, Polt or even Monchi since he mentioned he'd contacted them.

i have to say i like that quantic with ONLY KOREAN lineup lost to mouz no korean lineup i dont like foreign teams play with only koreans, no problem if you have 1-2 but if your only good players are the koreans ...

Not rly that suprised tbh, MaNa is best foreign Toss(and 2nd to Stephano only, overall) and with HOTS fixing hes biggest weakness (pvz) he scary to any1 aside maybe very top tier Koreans(a.k.Life/Flash/MVP etc).

What I love in this tournament is the really small downtime between the games. Usually in a team league, there is like 10 or 15 minutes whereas here it's less than 5.
|
Quite ironic but we had France Vs Spain two days ago in soccer and now again in sc2. I'm gonna be a bit patriotic on this one and say its payback time bitches. Millenium > K3 5:3
|
I think in the match today, it all comes down to how mutch ForGG can do. If he beats Lucifron and Vortix, Mill will win, but if not, Karonte should have a good chance at winning.
|
In all honesty i don't think so. ForGG is sure the millenium ace but adel/feast/goswer/dayshi should be able to take down luci or vortix (with a 50-50 % chance yes )
Moreover its bo1 and people like adelscott/goswer are good snipers with their playstyle.
|
Kartonte also has Socke, I think this match will be very even.
|
Yes, really close match. I'd bet on a 5-3 or 5-4 victory for Millenium but I'm not really unbiased :p
|
Socke luci vortix, pretty strong! Should be a tight match! Hard to guess but, i think Karont3 will take it by about 5-2 or so..
|
Millenium hasn't been this strong since Stephano left. They have a decent Top 30 EU player in each race with Feast, goswser and Dayshi (I'm doing a low bracket for Dayshi is still unproven but the other two are top 10 EU in my opinion); a good and reliable ace in ForGG and a wierd sniper in Adel. I believe !

He felt like a-moving since he thought with that absurd amount of production he does not need to flank or bait forcefields.

I would say he is way more familiar with the timings and macro rhythm when going fast 3 hatches, it's what zergs do since WoL I am not saying vipro did bad, but Goswer just did not do what Zergs do in that position - bait a lot of forcefields and stall as much as possible. Losing a lot of units would have been no problem if he reduced ff count by the toss.

viPro went chargelot-Archon, but didn't get storm. That's like going bio but not getting stim or combat. Huge mistake.
That was one problem. Second, ForGG went for a baserace and took out all the tech and production, while viPro attacked up into a choke at ForGG's bases.

I'm a protoss so I like Adel, but if you watch him stream sometime, it looks soooo slow. It's kind of a mystery to me how he's been able to keep winning games at a high level through all these years. On the other hand, as a slow player myself, watching Adel succeed gives me hope ^^
|
A lot of build order losses in HotS TvP.
|
|
Adel is the GoOdy of Protoss race : always slow and sloppy, but sometimes winning against better players nevertheless !

Well even if dayshi is fine i think forGG is the most reasonable choice here.
|
Well then, it's up to ForGG to play better. :|
Millenium's struggle in Team Leagues continues
|
Let's go ForGG! Time to carry!
|
I didnt follow this match from the start but I can see the results on 2 different pages and both says that ForGG has already played, im confused.

It is possible to revive one member of your team.

Millenium already lost the match when viPro won the first two games.
|
Spanish Armada 2 : 0 ForGG

*sigh* Well the days of Millenium performing in team leagues has yet to come.
PS : PL has to come back so I can boast for supporting WJS.

Surprising match. A very surprising Vipro and a disappointing forGG even if he provided some sick moves.
|
GG Karont3, I think this Teamleague will be very interesting.

I thought the match wouldnt begin before millenium sends forgg out.

Sorry but what does this mean?
"Each team is allowed to add a single "joker" player to their team roster for the whole season"

Teams are allowed to add one external player to their lineup.

Fun clanwar, vipro was surprisingly strong o_o and forgg was kinda disappointing, hope you guys enjoyed it ;P

"Each team is allowed to add a single "joker" player to their team roster for the whole season" Each team is allowed to have a player not on their team to participate with them. There are only two jokers so far: Socke plays for Karont3 and ToD plays for Millienium.

And you can't ask to ForGG to be stellar in every clan war, that's why Millenium needed 2 or 3 kills before sending ForGG.

He's not far off. Given that ForGG had a revive, and looking at how he playing the the qualifiers, ForGG was absolutely key, the central piece to Millenium's strategy. Having Feast or Gowser would be nice, but ForGG is the king of Millenium

Having Feast or Gowser would be nice, but ForGG is the king of Millenium Goswser is capable of all-killing K3, Feast could if he trained too. That's why they lost the match, not because ForGG was under-performing. ForGG is a monster when he is on a roll but sometimes, he can make critical mistake too. Perhaps most consider Millenium as ForGG plus some foreigners but in my opinion (shared by many M fans here) Feast and goswser's performance are critical to its success because ForGG isn't Summer TaeJa or Winter HerO !
Edit : Mindbreak ><

[/QUOTE] LucifroN is capable of all-killing Millenium, Vortix too. /QUOTE]
Fix.

Socke did all kill as a Joker vor karont vs aAa. Can somebody explain to me why all other Players in the Acer Teamleague have there Games in the TLPD ,, but not Socke ?

yes thanks, also Take is fairly pleasant to look at, it's not like he looks like TechnoViking or something, which would be scary. he has a pleasant visage, so it makes it easier.

You cheeky you. TaKeTV has names, score and all that fancy stuff on his stream.

where are the VODs for this thing?

I like the coverage of this cup very much so far. (TakeTV+Rotti)
But who had the idea for this format? An all-kill format (contrary to Proleague format) is already favouring teams with 1 strong player, because he can allkill the opposing team. And there have been quite some examples where a team got carried (Team Taeja IPL TAC 3).
Now you add an ace-player, so the star player gets a second chance to kill all of the opponent`s players. Already this is not a real "team"-cup anymore. Then the "reviving" on top of that is just the icing on the cake.
In Liquid vs ROOT we could have seen 4 times Taeja vs Yugioh (if Yugioh would have won game 6 and then Taeja is Liquids ace).

Craziness is exciting to watch.

The reviving was added, so smaller teans could participate ( u need only 4 instead of 5 players)

this sums it pretty much up for me, not really a teamleague with this format to be honest

The problem with this format is that it eliminates strategic elements that make cws so appealing compared to one player series. Let`s take an hypothetical matchup between TL and Millenium. Both have a clear standout player (Taeja/Forgg). So if the two teams would face each other the top priority is to eliminate the opponents ace without risking your own one. That`s where snipers come into play who use very specialised styles. But if you can revive your ace over and over the cws are decided basically in a bo3 of the aces.
|
I like the format quite a lot, but the extra two revives per season are too much. Even TaKe was confused by it as he said that a week before that a team can't revive twice per clanwar. The rule isn't even fair for the teams it is used against (these should be the weaker teams but yesterday it was used against stronger teams~~).
I see the joker/mercenary thing as a transitional thing. If the league succeeds to establish a healthy clan scene, it should be abolished in the next season. I think the rule was included because there are so many individually sponsored players/small teams around TaKe that he didn't want to exclude them (Grubby, Targa, Monchi, Xlord, Socke).
KOTH system is much easier to organize and more exciting than multiple preset matches. There should be other team leagues that use the other format, though.
I like the ace-revive thing. It gives more weight to the star player. Obviously, this is one of the parameters how much you favor imbalanced teams vs balanced teams. In the end, the crowd judges if they like it or not as it's a matter of taste. I liked it in the NGL1 already and there was this funny little Chinese tournament, Road of the King, where the clan war was played trading card style (with cards like "revive", "change map", "block opponents card", ...). Not saying that the RotK format should be used in highly competitive tournaments, but it was fun once in a while.
