Mmh, this is going to be very hard for TaeJa, Violet had time to practice Heart of the Swarm and TaeJa has barely enough wrists to prepare for GSL. I think Violet will take this, although I am hoping for TaeJa.

Go go violet! All killed FXO in GSTL, and Tajea got stomped in pmroleague. Not taking anything away from his GSL, but will he be as well prepared for violet? Doubt it.

I like how we rate "wrists" as a quantifiable concept now. It's not rare to use expressions like "enough wrists", "not many wrists left", "recover some wrists" or "30% wrists enabled" when speaking of Mvp or Taeja :D

1) TaeJa probably hasnt played that much HOTS, as he is still in GSL and ProLeague
2) viOlet looked super strong in HOTS and already did an all-kill

see this going one of two ways. either taeja crushes violet through early to mid game harrass or violet crushes taeja through overall game knowledge in the late game. in a straight up macro game taeja's just not experienced enough. should be interesting

Violet is very good in HotS but Taeja even though he probably has little HotS experience he is good enough to be able to win by playing it as WoL.

TaeJa got a lot out of that pressure, and now Violet threw away the lings, I like TaeJa's position a lot. And Violet is making more lings and a baneling nest.

I didn't really expect that 12/14 to do that much damage. TaeJa is pretty ahead in supply already, and viOLet isn't even on a third base to do catch-up.

Well, I've got to imagine that part of it has to do with Taeja being the much better player overall. If you're going bio in HotS like Taeja was in Game 1, it's like you just got thrown in some new tools - the overall structure and plan hasn't changed. So Taeja's bio (which was already sickeningly good in WoL) gets to keep his skill AND benefit from the natural boost tools like Widow Mines and Hellbats. Personally, unless Violet can manage to pull out some crazy HotS tricks from his many games, I don't see him having much of a chance versus Taeja.

I've been really enjoying seeing Roach/Hydra in ZvT recently because it adds to the dynamicness of the match-up from the stagnation of WoL. Now Zergs have three tech trees to follow in ZvT: Mutas, Infestors and R/H.

Watching this game you can really see the last patches have made a huge difference. The strategy Taeja is going for would be totally crippled in todays patch.

Well without it, Roach/Hydra would melt in ZvT because Tanks would destroy the composition. Suffice to say, Blinding Cloud is one of the few tool that can make Roach/Hydra useful in ZvT.

Yeah, absolutely. It's just a very different dynamic compared to WoL. Something to get used to. I love how it makes it easier to move into a bio/tank line as Zerg.

TaeJa did 12/14 Rax and pressured viOLet greatly, inflicting some economic damage and forcing Drones off. TaeJa macroed well and took his third at the time viOLet did, and had some good engagements with Bio. TaeJa pressured viOLet's third while Mutas came out, but upgrades, micro and the overwhelming macro of TaeJa won him the game.

This game has been really fun to watch. I'm not sure if that's because HoTS is well designed, or Taeja/Violet haven't figured out optimal unit comps, but I'm enjoying it regardless. I hope we see more games like this one.

awesome game, a bit weird to see hydra/roach comp against terran but it is a good thing since zerg have more options now with the vipers.

Taeja definitely doesn't know what to do after Viper's and ultras are out, no air switch.

Just my thinking, but wouldn't it be better to go into BLs rather than Ultras to transition out of Roach/Hydra? The Terran would be pumping Tanks and Marauders rather than Vikings and Ravens, so the BLs could go unopposed. But I guess the tankiness of Ultras helps the Hydras.

You have a point... but it was also a sloppy engagement. Attacking through a long corridor, into a concave, and sieged tank and with limited b-cloud. If someone came me those unit numbers, I'd say the Z wins.

I think Zergs have got a bit overconfident or overestimated the power of Ultras in late-game. They are much better, but not by a huge degree to the point where you should be building only Ultras. I've seen many top-tier Zergs do this, because the BL switch works better than Ultras once the Terran is building anti-armor units rather than anti-air, but their insistence on Ultras kills them in the late-game. BLs still should be used in late-game to counter that reliance on Marauders and Tanks.

Taeja actually lost it with the rush. In the end he did so little damage with reapers. Violet got to drone while using queens. The 3rd CC was ok, but he only got to even at the cost of upgrades.

Actually taeja lost it when he didn't have an engineering by and lost 30 workers. Had he had that and turrets violet would have been dead as his third got killed and he lost a ton of drones.

Taeja was still ahead after mutas, he only lost to the combination of unsieged tanks and no hellbats with his army, if either or both of those mistakes hadn't have happened he would have at least traded evenly, because he traded so bad because he had to run instead of fight at all

TaeJa was also really bad with the hellbats in the natural, he didn't get so many drones because he wasted time on the evo chambers, and drones outspeed hellbats. He was too indecisive, and the mutas wrecked him.

He had at least 4 at the top of the ramp when violet came in...which is why you saw violet move the forward lings to the side so the banes could blow up the hellbats and bio at the top, as well as micro his mutas back from the marine fire

TaeJa is known for taking very risky and greedy builds that pay off if there is no pressure. viOLet has been incredibly passive this series, so TaeJa is allowed to take a third expo early and build up an army.

GGs by Taeja nontheless, he played well there, but these games were played out before the recent Hellbat nerfs. So can't tell anything new about the state of HotS.

TO be fair, this was played a while back, might have been before he played against FXO. So violet is probably a lot better at HotS right now, than in this replay.
