these kinds of games were really common in late 2011 but then sort of faded away as mech vs mech became less and less common.

Mine went to shit a long time ago when I picked Jaedong for my anti-team and then when he started to win more had to switch him for another high rated zerg that I thought would underperform, Effort, who keeps winning as well D:
The only good decisions I made were picking Flash and CJ Entus, and also soO for relatively cheap after seeing him beat MKP. The rest of my picks were fucking terrible.

MKP's bio style during the beginning of 2012 kinda teared this style apart so people reverted back to the Marine-Tank more and more.

Yeah guys i've been following the scene as well, but i honestly do not remember much games as strategic as this one. They would pretty often end by a good\terrible run by.

Light doesnt really have any stats for TvZ but apparently his BW TvZ was pretty solid according to Liquipedia. BW guys have any predictions on what we will see from him?

"Fairly balanced at 2-2", said as if that counts. -__-

A lot of the maps also got bigger with less chokes so this type of play wasn't as favored.

It's funny because at the time tasteless and artosis were freaking out saying " this is the best TvT you guys have ever seen, it's the future of TvT's " and a year and a half later here we are with most TvT's being marine/tank or cheese and ending before the supreme lategame.

It's the map pool man. So many open places and huge chokes. Sigh I miss the glory days of GomTvT

And by mentioning that game makes me realize that Daybreak has been in the map pool for a very very very long time... (16 months already).

LighT is a freaking proleague monster and a beast in general. I hope his skills transferred over well this season. He didn't look too bad during the Frankenleague, but everyone was pretty bad at the time.

It's just really rare to get a TvT that fills the correct criteria for that kind of game. First there has to be no cheese or it has to stabilize, then they both have to not die until being stuck on 3 or even 4 bases is not enough economy to keep reproducing, then you need them to both be going mech and not bio.
the game we just saw was definitely one of the best positional mech vs mech games I've ever seen, which is to be expected since the level of play has risen so much since 2011. comparing it to those old games is kind of unfair.

i would eat a sock to hear artosis cast these live proleague games

I think the maps have a lot to do with it. Daybreak and CK probably are the best maps for mech. But maps like WW, Abysal are just really hard to do mech on. And even Antiga, Ohana, entombed has really large middle areas were you can get flanked very easily.
