I don't think his point was ever that there should never be new maps, it's that really odd maps can be gimmicky, which is something that COULD happen to Arkanoid. Some clever player might just figure out the map, and then it'll be a never-ending litany of mirror matchups with the same build. This is just as bad of a metagame. If that happens then you scrap the map. You should constantly be introducing new ones anyway. Often maps can produce incredible games at first until it's flaws are figured out and when that happens you just move on to something else. Daybreak is a prime example of this. Universally loved at first that map should have been retired long ago because these days it produces the most boring PvZ games possible. | ||
