I think the main problem regarding muta/ling/bling is the map pool. On a map like WW zerg is almost always in an advantageous position. Either they do massive damage, or they can rely on map control and the huge map to stay ahead. Muta ling bling is exciting, just not on WW!

From a balance stand point:
T + P > Z early game.
Z > Late game.
50% win rate. T + P all in or pressure Z (if Z doesn't defend, Z loses, vice versa).
HOWEVER this is not great game design IMO (you have one race trying to defend until late, while the other tries to win early on). Even Idra agreed on Imbalanced (this was back in early 2011 though).
In both BW and WC3, one race isn't that much stronger in early or late game than the other.
Edit - This is really true for PvZ than TvZ. TvZ is kind of okay actually.
