It's kind of hard to describe this event better than the title sums it up really. FXO's BabyKnight and GL's Snute decided it would be a great idea to have an insane Best of 69 and PokerStrategy.com was happy to oblige! A battle of endurance will ensue over many hours as the players battle it out for $500 provided by PokerStrategy.com, as well as a 256GB SSD disk provided by Mamoz.no!
The event will be casted by Kaelaris and IMBA.tv. Links will be up tomorrow. Friday, Sep 28 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)
The maps will be played in the set order. The Bo69 romance is split into seven parts with certain themes. (Edit: We take breaks in between these parts!) Like a box of confectionery, we have a little of each. We have included some blizzard classics, present maps, brood war maps, Crux/GSL, ESV, TPW, and MotM / community maps.
The first player to win 35 maps in total wins the showmatch.
The total prize pool for this event is 500$ and a 256GB SSD for the winner! Winner: 300$ + SSD 2nd place: 200$
We would like to thank PokerStrategy.com and Mamoz.no for making this showmatch possible.

thats a ridiculous amount of games for such a small prize. that being said, i'm glad the players are doing it for the sake of the viewers/fans, rather than trying to just make a quick buck!
Mappool is epic! All those old crappy maps once again, Blistering Sands, Kulas Ravine, Slag Pits, Incineration Zone, Steppes of War, etc. Gonna be super fun, hope this is actually gonna happen!

is there a specific reason to why there is a love theme and a BO69?

It'll be 34-34, the last game ends in a draw and both players are sleeping because of exhaustion
This is dedication to the game and to the fans. Much love to both players. I hope for some epic games, pray for some quick ones, and expect silliness towards the end! :D
I thought BabyKnight and Snute might have - ya know - got together for some coffee or something ^_^. Ahhh, Spring (in the Southern Hemisphere) that wonderful time of year when a young man's fancy turns into love....

No, this is more like, the length of series where silly things will appear frequently. Also, due to the map pool it's not going to be a complete showcase of who is better either, but it's still going to be fun, that is for sure!
That's the definition of a hero-probe! Killing a queen and then dieing for the greater good even blocking some drones so that the cannon can get more kills
Lol, its so stupid to see how babykngiht cant understand situation, they just switched two maps, and he says that every map will be delayed by 1 map... So it looks like you dont need any logic to be progammer.... Sorry

I'm sorry, I am learning for an exam and watching just a little bit besides that. And I haven't got the stamina to LR a potential of 69 games ^.^
I can however try to write some short summaries for the games, but I can't guarantee them to be thoroughly complete

Game 20: Tal'darim Altar Loooooooooong game, coming down to Broodlord-Infestor against Mothership-Archon-Stalker-HT, but not as passive as you might expect. Started out with fast Expansions and Snute going for heavy Muta-Ling-Roach aggression with Babyknight defending with Blinkstalker-Colossus, later-on using some Recalls to kill of bases and be back for defend in time to stop counter-attacks. Also Babyknight did suicid almost a whole army to kill of Hive and Greater Spire and could replenish with 5k-3k bank in time because of Snute's army being too slow to punish him. At the end Babyknight could keep denying bases and engage the Broodlord-Infestor army in the wide-open middle, beating it convincingly.
Edit: Also we are at 20 games played over the course of 5 hours. Kaelaris still got no food.
Game 21: Fighting Spirit (with a middle base with 12 gold mineral patches and 2 rich vespene geysers ... what the f***ing f***?) Rather passive in the beginning, Snute takes that middle base and drops a lot of Roaches and Lings at 13 minutes but good Blinkstalker micro from Babyknight lets him defend and get a big lead on the army-count.
Snute techs to Infestors and saturates the middle base with his Drones from the third base (lol) Babyknight attacks with Stalker-Immortal-HT and Snute's Roach-Ling-Infestor mix is not enough to defend. He loses the middle base. Also for some point he had quite a few overmins, probably not having enough macro hatcheries to support that huge income from that middle base. Babyknight pushes on and takes Snute's army out with Storm, Archons, Immortals and Blink Stalkers and takes the game
Score is 12-9 for Snute, next up is the map section called 'Hell'. 10 Minute break allowing Kaelaris to go to the toilet. Still no food for poor Kaelaris
Kealaris could finally get some food (crispy chicken with rice) Game 22: Dual Sight (with Gold bases)
Babyknight uses 1-base 4-gate against Snute's hatch first into even a fast 3rd base. Snute sacrifices his third base but is able to snipe the 2 pylons with Lings and defend Babyknights aggression. For some reason Babyknight's wall has a hole and Snute kills a lot of Probes with a Ling run-by. Babyknight tries to go for it again but a lot of defensive Spine Crawlers, Lings and incoming Roaches make it look like Snute has that game in the bag. Well, for some reason Babyknight is able to trap multiple units for multiple times with Zealot-Sentry and the game gets close once again but in the end it's not enough and Snute takes the game.
Babyknight goes for proxy-2-gate in Snute's potential third but Snute goes for Pool first, scouts it with an Overlord and builds some Roaches on 1 base to kill Babyknight
Game 26: City of the Damned (5 overall spawning locations, but you can't spawn directly close to each other, so effectively 3 spawn positions. I played 2 or 3 games on that map and it confused the crap out of me so I stopped playing it and never looked back at it again. Also the graphics are made in a way that lets everything look a little bit like a cheap comic version of SC2)
3 base vs 3 base, big attack with Lings and Baneling Drops by Snute, Babyknight defends with Gateway units and Immortals
Snute follows it up with Baneling drops into the economy but Babyknight reacts fast enough to save most of his Probes while attacking Snute with his army. Snute has not enough units to defend and leaves the game.
imo, it's quite normal that snute is ahead, he made the map pool himself, and I also think that P is a bit more reliant on knowing the maps than Z, so the fact that they have little experience on most maps favour snute slightly

I think they're having fun and you shouldn't read too much into the map scores
On September 28 2012 23:32 Weirdkid wrote: Hahahaha these two are pretty amazing. Game 28 and they still have the energy for random friendly pre-game banter.
2-base Mutas into double-expand against 2-base Gateway-Immortal allin. The mutas fly into Babyknight's base while Babykinght attacks the front of Snute's base. The game almost turned into a basetrade but Spine Crawlers and Lings defend Snute's base and the Mutas kill way too many workers. With the Mutas coming back from their ravage in Babyknight's base Snute kills the last of Babyknights units.
So that's 18-10 for Snute right now, we still have a minimum of 17 games left ôo

I think that's what's keeping them awake haha
It's barely five in the afternoon.
It's been 6-7 hours of gaming haha, and they're barely halfway through.
I have never seen this map before and neihter has Babyknight, as he builds another awkward Pylon, forcing him into doing the weirdest wall ever seen to man. Or rather 2 walls, since the natural has 2 entries, which lead to Babyknight's confusion in the first place.
Babyknight attacks with 5 gates (4 of them are actually part of that wall) and since Snute was at almost 70 Drones he loses quite a lot of economy but is able to defend. His counter-pressure can't break the wall of Babyknight. With some Immortals and 9 gates on 2 bases Babyknight goes for another big attack. Snute delays the attack until he gets Infestors out and with the help of his massive Drone numbers (who actually make formidable fighting units when you can swarm your opponent with them) he is able to defend once again. Snute's counter-push gets caught in the middle and Snute loses some units but with even more reinforcement and locking down and killing ~20 Zealots solely with fungal he is able to defend again and this time take the game.
The score is 19-10 for Snute and we are going into a pause and the next map section: down from Hell we go High up Heaven!
On September 28 2012 23:55 Arevall wrote: Thanks Yello. 5 hours left at work for me, hope I get back home before they are done!
These games are fun as hell. There are at least 16 maps left for now (~4-5 hours I would guess) and that's only if Snute wins every single map from now on. I think you will be able to catch quite some games when you are back from work :D
Game 30: Cloud Kingdom (how ordinary and boring ._.)
Some sweet man-to-man love chat by Snute and BabyK ♥ Both players are requesting pink maps with stars and glitters.
Snute goes for the early Pool and proxy Hatch into BabyKnight's main (after not being able to block the wall with a hatch) The wall goes down and Snute is forced to back off, double-expanding to catch up. Not much happening for now, some Lings apply pressure and 'elfi-fields' (also called fail-fields) go down to not catch and kill those units. Babyknight's attempt of expanding to his third gets shut down by Roaches and Lings. Babyknight adds Immortals and more Gateway units and attempts to expand to his third again and gets shut down by Roaches and Lings again. Snute decides that he wants to kill Babyknight. Double-Colossus-production by Babyknight keeps him alive against the first wave of Roach-Ling-Infestor. Snute tries a slightly different approach, this time dropping his maxed Roach army on top of Babynights army. That proves to be a bad decision as Snute not only loses almost everything while still dropping out of the Overlords but also gets severely supply-blocked. Snute tries a different approach again, trying to run past BabyK's army but Babyknight's sees what happens and kills all of Snute's stuff for a third time. Snute decides that this is not gonna work out well for him and leaves the game.

I meant keeping them going from physical exhaustion, not from the time of day They've played 30 games already, and potentially it's only half over. And they've played for many hours.
On September 29 2012 00:23 Weirdkid wrote: Goody and Happy TvT Bo69 YAY!!
Holy shit. That would take around 6 to 7 days if it is totally one-sided and one player wins 35-0. If both players win games I can't even predict how long that would take.
Game 31: Atlantis Spaceship
Macro-Macro-Macro-Macro. Come on guys, hurry up, I wanna see Scrap Station!
Okay, BabyK decides that he doesn't want to wait any longer either and goes 8/9-gate Blink-Stalker with a warp prism dropping sentries to block the ramp with Force Fields. Sadly for him though Snute went for Mutas and defends rather easily. Another attack by BabyK gets shut down hardcore by mass Lings and mass Mutas and Snute takes the series.
WTF? Stalkers blink into some solid metal thing on the map and are now hidden in there, not being able to be attacked by Lings. Well, doesn't matter since ~30 mutas don't really have problems with Stalkers even when those Stalkers abuse weird map bugs.
I wouldn't bet on a extraordinary long bo69 between GoOdy and Happy. I remember some bo11 or something TvT with GoOdy and it was pretty short because banshee and other strategies worked very well and made for short games.
On September 29 2012 00:32 imallinson wrote: The fuck just happened with those stalkers?
Mutalisks happened
They were stuck in that metal thingy, weren't they? Seems to be some weird bug
Game 32: Scrap Station!
BabyKnight actually builds a good wall! He probably practiced a lot on this map!
Snute is taking a fast third. He probably didn't practice at all on this map!
Double-Stargate for Babyknight, quite a lot of Voirdrays being built. Snute is blindly going for Hydralisks and a lot of Queens. Somehow the double-Stargate + massive Zealot warpins is not working out against Hydras and Queens. BabyK didn't lose any Voidrays yet though and continues harassing while teching up to Colossus production.
Snute goes for a huge Hydra-Queen-Ling drop into Babyknight's main with reinforcing Nydusworm. Babyknight does some damage at Snute's third with Zealot warpins but even his awesome Voidray micro (lol) doesn't help him to fight against the massive amount of Hydralisks. The hydras take out BabyKs main and Babyknight is now on one base, being harasses from Nydus-worms from both sides.
Well, we know that Scrap Station is the Zerg map, right? Snute wins the game and leads with 21-11
As Kaelaris says: this is probably the highest level game we'll ever see on Scrap Station.
Game 33: Terminus SE BabyK states that Nydus scares the shit out of him. Like Silent Hill. Snute is mad at that map heaving rocks at the third base.
Snute is so mad that he takes his fast third base into his opponent's direction. Also he builds Drones. Lots of Drones. BabyK decides to view that Hatchery and its Drones as a friendly gift and builds some Gateway units to thankfully take it. He also techs to Dark Templar but doesn't do much damage with it. Babyknight knocks down the rocks blocking his expansion and takes his third, Snute does the same but also takes a 4th base, this time expanding away from his opponent. Babyknight builds up an army of Archon-Immortal-Stalker while Snute builds Roaches and Infestors. Still mad from the start of the game Snute decides that attacking is the way to go. The following engagement is probably one of the most one-sided in this series so far. Babyknight wins the game with losing less then a third of the ressources Snute lost in that game.
More bromance! Babyknight is singing Quietdrive's 'Avalanche' Bromance! I think I'll play that song in a loop for this game ♥
Also Babyknight is going for 2-Stargate-Phoenix while taking a fast third base. Snute is expanding and Droning up. And decides that he can punish BabyK's fast third with Lings and Roaches. He is quite surprised by seeing 9 Phoenixes of BabyKnight but even 9 Phoenixes have a hard time killing 40 Lings. Babyknight loses all of his Probes and Snute takes the game.
22-12 for Snute!
Hey, that means we are halfway through the 69 maps we could possibly see.
Okay, I've been watching this for 8 hours straight now while trying to understand the deeper meanings of Thermodynamics. Since it's Friday evening by now I'll meet up with some friends soon and go party hard. Was fun to watch this and do my write-ups. I love Snute's and Babyknight's friendly banter and the amount of weird maps and strategies we have seen today. Maybe I'll watch the VoD tomorrow or so, whenever I got too much free-time ^.^
Seeing as Yello called it quits I'll take over the summaries.
Game 42: Shattered Temple Unfortunately for our entertainment they don't spawn close by ground. Both players expand with BK taking a quick third. Snute goes for fast drops and banelings. Snute decides to cover BK's probes in acid rain. BK stays alive due to having an unscouted third. Snute is teching to mutas which kill BK's pretty much sentry only army. BK writes LOL in forcefields before gging Snute wins. 27-15
Game 43: Emerald Jungle BK spawns bottom right, Snute top right Kaelaris spawns bottom right. Kaelaris being a coward immediately flies his cc to hide behind Snute. This is novel Snute has taken a third. Snute has four bases and kills BK's third with roaches. Snute now teching to broods while BK isn't getting stargate tech yet. BK goes for a pre-brood timing but they hatch just in time. BK ggs 28-15.
Also Kaelaris gets an achievement for completing a cast in hard mode.
I think the Bo3 format in the GSL groups allows for way too much cheese. If they switched to Bo69 we would see many more high-level super-skilled games like here.
Game 44: Overgrown Game starts standard, pool into 3 base and ffe. BK is serenading Snute, this is starting to turn into an SC2 slash fic. Snute is making lots of roaches and BK has 3 units. BK gets an immortal out but Snute is killing everything including BK's third. Lings clean everything up. BK ggs. 29-15
Game 45: Crossfire Both players open fairly standard with Snute delaying his third. BK is going for fast colossi and Snute cancels his infestation pit for a spire. Snute takes his fourth while BK moves out with a single colossus. BK gets a cancel on the fourth and kills the third. BK gets some good forcefield and kills most of the mutas. Snute ggs. 29-16
Game 46: Sanshorn Mists BK opens ffe and Snute fakes a third and gets a baneling nest. The sc2 slash continues with Snute threatening to spank BK. Ling Bane all in isn't very effective. Well until he kills the Artosis pylon unpowering three gates. Snute starts another probe massacre. Game stabilises but Snute is ahead taking a third. BK kills Snute's third Snute is going for baneling drops which don't work well. Snute has snuck a third up as well as infestation pin and nydus. Bk is camping outside Snute's natural and kills the third. BK moves into the natural and kills everything. Snute ggs. 29-17
As far as I could check from this thread or I could remember. "-" means I couldn't check. Any help in correction/filling in the prior game results is appreciated.

Well, there is only one way to find out... once they do this Bo69 they need to switch races and do it again. If the total score is even we need a Bo69 TvT tiebreaker.
Game 49: Afterglow Snute goes pool => 3 hatch and BK goes ffe. BK adds another 4 gates Snute is getting a kind of late roach warren. BK does some damage but holds off the attack with a big swell of roaches and lings. Snute goes for a counter attack taking out a forge and gate. Snute getting infestors while BK getting blink and a third, which is then killed by lings. Snute isn't watching his infestors and they get sniped by the stalkers. Both players trade their armies while retaining the powerful units. Snute getting neural parasite BK teching to colossi. BK trying to get a fourth while Snute is still on 3 base. Snute gets some good neurals but it isn't enough and loses his army again. Snute ggs. 30-19

id also like to add snute getting a 7:20 roach warren which is rather late (a metagame decision most likely) then to defend the 5 gateway stalker zealot timing he overcommits to roach+ling, kills a few gateways and pylons but remains behind 10 drones. Babyknight going for a blink+sentry+immortal defense while snute continues roach+ling+infestor aggression while simultaneously hitting babyknight's 3rd base.
Game 50: Pawn Frozen Refuge Yay grubby co-cast. BK going for gate after nexus Snute pool into 3 hatch. Snute making a lot of lings which finally get in after going through a lot of pylons where they are promptly killed. BK is going for a big counter attack with 9 gates which is doing some good damage. Snute's third finally falls and BK has a big worker lead. BK is still picking away and now has a 30 worker lead. BK now getting a third and a robo. BK decides to forcefield himself out of his natural after all the lings run in. Somehow we have ended in a base race which BK ends up winning. 30-20

BabyK comeback seems possible. Would be awesome. :D
Game 51: Derelict BK goes nexus into forge Snute tries to punish it but misses the block with his hatch. Snute takes a later base at his third. BK still doesn't know there is no third for Snute and he is going for a big baneling bust. Lings finally get in after some good forcefields and kills 20+ probes. Lings still running in and banes morphing in the main. Banes kill the last of the sentries and BK ggs. 31-20
Game 52: Antiga Shipyard Both players on one base, BK poking with a zealot and a couple of stalkers while Snute makes three spines. Snute gets a third and is poking at BK's front. BK is going up to 6 gate with blink. Snute trades some roaches for sentries while teching to infestors. BK pushing with a large army, Snute kills the immortals but a lot of stalkers remain. BK keeps getting pushed back due to Snute having a great economy. BK finally backs off and takes a third but has 100 supply to Snute's maxed army. Snute kills the third and pushes into the natural. BK ggs. 32-20
Game 53: Typhon Peaks BK goes for a gate expand, Snute getting fast ling speed and roaches. Lings are in BK's natural suprisingly quick, this map has basically zero rush distance. Snute kills both cannons and is doing damage to the probes while taking a third. Snute still attacking BK has a worker lead. Snute kills the robo but is really behind on workers and is going for tunnelling claws. Snute is setting up a trap but BK has an obs. BK is far ahead in supply and moves into the natural. Snute ggs. 32-21
Game 54: Metropolis BK going nexus first While Snute is going gas after Hatch. SnutE is getting a thiRd and knocking down thE rocks to BK's nat. Lings flooding in And killing Many probes. BK Is losing probes and ggs. 33-21
Game 55: Xel'naga Fortress Both players expanding. Snute gets lings in the main and takes a third. Snute kills the first zealot and stalker 12 roaches on the way. BK has two stalkers and a sentry which promptly dies. BK has an obscene amount of gates but no core and Snute's roaches kill BK. 34-21
This has to be some sort of record for both longest series and longest solo-cast. We need to create a liquipedia to put this series Down in the history books.
Game 56: Loki II Both players expanding to the in base nat and Snute takes a third. Minerals being mined. Minerals being mined. BK takes an early third. Snute going teching to roach drops BK teching to blink and storm. Lots of gates finishing up for BK while Snute readying a doom drop. Roaches push into the natural taking out the immortals and archon. BK holds it off but another drop is ready. Snute picks up and drops in the main BK starting to fall. BK ggs!

Snute wins 35-21
Snute was so tired he forgot OL speed at first, slow overlord drops ftw!
Biggest problem with this was that when both players didn't know the map, zerg had it easier. BabyK struggled with his wall on several maps because he didn't know the correct pylon placement. With that said though, Snute played well in the maps I watched, so did BabyK.
I enjoyed the game on Belshir Beach a lot, especially because I am a Dane and BabyKnight fan
