Tournament schedule will be posted tomorrow after registration closed.
Make sure all of the personal information fields are accurate in you WCG Canada profile (especially your battlenet ID) as you will not be eligible for prize/qualification for the national final if they aren’t and we need your battlenet ID for the tournament bracket.
The bracket will be generated after player will have confirmed their participation. All player must contact an admin on battlenet at least 15 minutes before the tournament start.

It is shortly after WCS Championship plus it is at the same time as IPL5. Huk is in both and Scarlett has the chance to be in both.
EDIT: 'It' being the WCG Grand Final :D
Well I took a little initiative and look up the liquipedia page about this tournament and so far... I dont understand shit.
WCG cannot fix a wikipage. Sounds promising for the rest of the tournament.
why would wcg be responsible for a wiki page?
Yeah why would any organizer want to promote their tournament and the n1 SC2 page. Really weird idea I have. Specially since it is free and takes about 1-2 hours?
I heard most people like tournaments where there is no info and no context. Then they also peaked, whenever I looked, around 500 viewers on each stream. Amazing result, just behind the weekly zotac and half that of White-Ras current stream. If that is not a fail I do not what is.

You know Liquipedia is mostly contributed to users of this site right? Without the proper information, we can't add anything either.
That said, afaik, the qualifiers being played right now are only for seeding for the 3 LANs (Victoria, Toronto and Montreal). The winner of each of those tournaments go to WCG.
I don't think you necessarily have to play in this tournament to be able to take part in one of those LANs.

Yes, or well If I was organizer of a "world" tournament and I noticed the largest information hub about SC2 do not have a graspable wiki page I might have done something about it. And if the information is not even out there that is even worse.
Can i still go to my areas regional qualifiers or w.e which for me is on october 26th-28th and compete even though I wasnt able to make the 26th deadline to register? Or is that registration only for online qualifiers?

Was he in the tournament? I didn't find his name in the bracket.
Also, CombatEX has managed to get to round 5 going 6-0 without being disqualified for "unnecessary chatting", pausing the game, or any other such nonsense that is an immediate disqualification in this tournament. I'm somewhat surprised more at the lack of any talking during game than the going 6-0 part. (he verses hendralisk next round, the first name he's playing that I recognize).
I actually can't believe he lost that game. If he had stopped poking around and killed the 3rd and retreated when army came he would be in a good position.
So, I'm curious what the reward is for winning the online qualifier, it seems that all the players who even PARTICIPATE get seats in the main tournament, and my question is how many players get "preferential" seeding. I use preferential in quotes because if for instance all players who participate get seeded in order of placement with walk ins and other pre registered players, you could have one of the people who lost in the first round having a higher seed than Ostojiy, Scarlett, and Huk who didn't participate which could make a higher seeded person end up with a "worse" matchup than a lower seeded person in theory.
Can someone clarify for me the rewards for the online qualifiers?

The winner of the qualifier gets preferential seeding at his/her event choosing and also a paid flight to that city's event.

So only the winner gets seeding, and everyone else who participates gets first dibs on registration at the event, is that how it works? It makes sense that way, but I've never been a fan of winner take all, even in qualifiers I feel 2nd should get SOMETHING more than last.

This is a pretty disappointing tournament, seems like the admins should spend less time banning people for making jokes about Stephen Harper in chat and more time checking the games for cheaters. There is literally 0 oversight anyone could cheat their way through this tournament.

I didn't say mkengyn hacks, people in the stream believed that pulseBelieve was maphacking. Just sucks that 2nd place gets no prize and so he can't go to any of the offline lans.

If you divide it by population it's probably close to the median.

Yea, they should have one in Manitoba instead of Ontario. That way 2/3+ of Canada's population ends up in the Montreal event and the other third can go to Manitoba or BC!

Regional Final will all have an Open tournament on Friday, it's not to late to register, (26th dead line was indeed for the Online qualifier ) . Please make sure you have register to WCGCanada and selected the event you want to attend.
So, I missed the online tournament (for SC2). I am near Toronto, and have the box ticked for the Toronto LAN on my WCGCanada account. So, from what I understand that puts me third on the preference tier for getting into the tournament. However, will people be able to know in advance if they have a guaranteed spot in the LAN final? I'd love to go, but it'd involve a bit of travel to and from each day, so I'd not like to show up only to find that there's no spots. And lastly, the LAN final is listed as Oct 19-21, so it's a 3 day event?
On October 17 2012 15:47 DJMctwist wrote: Yes zeppelin October 19 - 21 mean it is a 3 day event. Best way to be guaranteed a chance to compete is to register.
If you want to bring food or drinks, sure. Though you're surrounded by a whole mall, so obviously there's places you can go eat easily as well. Other than that, just your keyboard/mouse/headset/mousepad and control pad if yer a FIFA person.
It's outside Swarovski, Near Victoria's Secret. That's the 2nd floor, will be hard to miss us.
Was there last night setting up and just heading over now this morning, there's a lot of wicked Samsung stuff set up and 14 computers setup for both SC2 and FIFA. If yer around, come on by and qualify or just check it all out.
I think the BC qualifier stuff will be up later on, closer to that date.
On October 20 2012 13:15 Mozzery wrote: anyone have any updates on the first day of the tournament? Any upsets early? I can't seem to find results for this.
The first day and up until about Noon Saturday were the open qualifiers for people to come and continue to qualify for entry into the tournament itself, so we had a good number of people down for that.
After noon tomorrow the bracket will be created and the elimination rounds will begin. That's going to be streamed and you'll be able to follow the brackets on Binary Beast, I'll make sure they get posted here as well.
Of course another canada event where brackets, or players are not readily available. I mean the online qualifier was but the one thats on right now? Nowhere on main page does it say "brackets" or "player list" etc. Theres many little reasons why big events are successful and one of them is catering to viewers, i mean whats a sport without viewers right? Can someone please post brackets or player list or something for the event thats on now? Thanks-

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement, the winner of this event goes to WCG world finals, it's the first day of eliminations, and there is no easy to access information about the elimination bracket? Granted it isn't exactly a "star studded" tourney, but there are some good players here and there is a free trip to WCG finals for the winner, which while not as prestigious as some tournaments still carries some name value from its past...
Yes, Final 4 are Believe, Combat, Hendralisk and SoloTurtle.
The brackets weren't available in the morning because it wasn't actually final until mid-day. The morning still allowed for players to qualify into the bracket itself.

The Final Bracket has only 11 players since we rule to make a new bracket during the tournament because many Online & Open Qualifier players did not show up and free win was a problem.

Hey, I just want to make sure its clear to everyone this event is happening at basically the same time as WCS and IPL5 which are more prestigious events, so naturally all your favourite canadian pros are attending these events
but this does not mean that the players we are sending to china are the worst either, they still had to complete through their own tournaments to qualify which is always a challenge in itself.
So instead of all this negativity lets give them some support, who knows maybe they will cause an upset or two and we will just have more Canadians to cheer for in the future!
happy that hendralisk is going, but there are other notable canadians I would put above Combat and Firezerg. TT1, Masa, Slush, Mkengyn, DDE, Attero, jEcho, Ostojiy, and Tubby.
MKengyn lost to Combatex in the tournament and also lost in the free trip to qualifiers match IIRC, Tubby lost in the free trip to Canadian qualifiers, dde was very close to joining but missed the qualifier due to some other plans. There obviously were other good players who didn't prioritize this tournament, but it will be interesting how it turns out anyways.
Also, Hendralisk qualified for IPL 5 and is going to this anyways, isn't he? Figured I'd mention that, could be wrong, he could still end up at IPL 5, I don't know.

Let's just say that CombatEX is a very smart retard.
I would like to express my greatest gratitude to our World Wide Sponsor Samsung for another great WCG Grand Final. Once again, I was blow away by the venue, exhibition booth, all the stages and the crowd. Also big thanks to Samsung Canada for their WCG 2012 support. They made all 3 Nationals Finals and the trip to China possible. As a big Starcraft 2 fans I’m proud to say that only Korea, China and Canada did send the maximum of three Sc2 gamers. Our team did well event if we didn’t bring any medal, each of them put out a great show on stage to entertain the Chinese spectator. Our FIFA players did also well with 2 out of 3 getting out of their group, but let’s just say that we have probably more chance to win medals at Ice Hockey than football.
Big thank to G4 Box & Z8Games our Gold partner and main sponsor for our Crossfire team. For the second year in a row Team Canada did well, even if we didn’t pass the group play, we can proudly say that we lost to the Silver and Gold Medalist. As a fan of FPS in the early day of esport, I always enjoy competitive gaming team atmosphere, players can sometime be a little bit cocky trying to motivate their team mates, but when the game is over team shake hand and rival become quickly friend.
I will also like to thanks all the people implicate in our National Finals broadcast with our silver partner Twitch.tv. We are pleased to offer a stream in the 2 Canadian official languages and all the Caster, Co-Caster and Stream Producer did an excellent Job. Vods of the semis and final for each National Final are available on the Highlight page on the twitch channel.
I will like to thank all the people who supported WCG Canada 2012, all of our Bronze partner, especially all the volunteer form E-Sport Canada and LANETS. We our fortunate to have eSport fans willing to rally around event like WCG. Competitive gaming has a great future in Canada with organization like those. Don’t miss the next LANETS on March 1-2-3! Hope to see a lots of WCG Canada fans there!
Finally I will like to thank Thierry St-Jacques Gagnon, the CEO of WCG Canada who did an unbelievable job during the years to bring esport to Canadian fans and build the team who represent Canada at the most International esport event of the year.
Sorry for the late post, after all the work I put in to WCG 2012, I took some holiday in China! Really nice country to visit and great news WCG 2013 will also be in Kunshan!
