Being famous and having fans is not restricted to being a skilled player. Yes, Curious is a strong player, but he's always completely emotionless. He doesn't do unique interviews like Seed, he doesn't show confidence (cockiness) like MC and he doesn't have a unique playstyle. He also didn't win a big tournament yet. He has nothing that makes him special and therefore he is considered average.
He has the skill to be known and famous but skill in the game is not enough :/

Pretty much, I mean I mentioned his results as ok and "worth grabbing fans". Incontrol has fans because of his personality, I'm not sure why that's relevant to what I said.
But even beyond personality, Curious' play is the definition of standard. I've seen him play some good series (that sick Code A run) but I've also never seen him in a spectacular series. Perhaps he has had some, I've just never seen them =S

It's like in those old days where everyone talked about "generic korean terran player X". They were good players, in Code S, but didn't stand out like MVP or MarineKing. I feel like Curious is like that with zerg. There's a lot more fashionable zergs out there that everyone wants to follow, and these days more and more zergs are popping up, he doesn't really stand out so well in the crowd, even though he's good.

Why not StarTale? They're even keeping the main coach.

Man, Curious won Code A (premier tournament, and one of the most difficult tournaments back then) without dropping a single game! That makes him more accomplished than basically everyone in the foreign scene except the top 5-ish foreigners.
His stoned-face? Curious' personality and character derives from his lack of emotion and apathy. He is the counter-weight to the MCs and Firebatheros out there. He's kind of like a Korean Haypro.
By the way, Kespa got killed today. Champions like Flash and Fantasy losing to low-key SC2 players must be humbling :|

The KeSPA players know their place, and their efforts today are heartening as they are definitely improving despite the split-game situation. The future looks bright for them.

So with todays results, can we agree that KESPA players have not even reached forgeiner sc2 skill level yet?
|
If anything, I think it makes them work even harder knowing they're so close to the GSL player's levels already. A lot of them took games off Code A/S players today, maybe not the 2 required for the series win, but even taking a game off them and being 1 game away from winning shows they've come a long way in a short amount of time.

I am actually quite impressed by some Kespa players, especially zero. Despite playing mainly BW until the OSL semis he reached the final in his group beating some notable players. I agree there future looks bright.

Curious is basically the dean malenko of starcraft then. Just give him the nickname the ice man and all will be set.

Come on, Kespa. Someone's gotta qualify from you guys.

Why, because they beat a few players but lost to others?
Put foreigners in the same tournament and I doubt they'd really do better bar maybe Stephano and Naniwa.

A couple of weeks earlier, there wouldn't have been 3 Kespa players in their respective group finals, Flash 2-0'ing Brown and taking a game off of Sniper in TvZ, Shy out-PvP'ing Inca, Light beating Jjakji, Zero beating Tassadar and Terious etc.

In fact Naniwa and Stephano might be the only ones capable of doing so.... The results are widely as expected. BBongBBong is quite a surprise, since he really slumped lately as the whole prime team seemed to do. But they all look like they pulled themselves out of their hole together. Quite nice to see!

On July 22 2012 20:09 Sea_Food wrote: So with todays results, can we agree that KESPA players have not even reached forgeiner sc2 skill level yet? Well they have varied skill levels. Bisu looked appauling tbh, but others were very competitive with their GSL opponents. I don't think many (or any ) Foreigners could beat Jjakji in a TvT Bo3.
|
The KeSPA players did well in my opinion, 2 of them managed to make the finals which is impressive considering the amount of time they have played, and some of the players that went out in the early rounds still looked pretty competitive.
|
I was hoping to at least see a couple of the KESPA players advance.
