Gone are the days where you could look at a guy who came up from Code B and think "well, he got through the prelims, he must be good." Back when the seeding system was awful, you really did have awesome players who were unfortunately stuck in Code B due to the bottleneck. Since we moved the the 8/24 seed system in Code S back in November, we've had about 3 Code A/UpDown/S cycles now, and most of the guys who "should" be in Code S and Code A climbed their way up, while the guys who are in the Code B/A cycle mostly deserve to be there. I disagree, there are still a lot of Code A/B players who are doing really well and should be Code S. They just don't have the hype of some of the old people, although they should. MVPMonster, for example, should probably be Code S. He recently did very well at MLG Anaheim, knocking out Minigun, Huk, and MC all 2-0. Then within a week he all killed EG and won the GESL. He's just one of the many overlooked players in Code A/B.

Well there have been a few notable Code B-ers who've climbed up and made a name for themselves, such as Seed, Ace (comeback), Sniper, TheStc, Creator and Maru in Season 1; Symbol, Byun (comeback), Vines and Bomber (comeback?) in Season 2; and I expect Losira and Monster to have good showings this season. There are still good players in Code B though the talent is starting to thin, as it should as all the good ones get rewarded for their performances.

I mean, let's look at last season's Code A, since we'll have the benefit of retrospect there. Come to your own conclusions!
The following players made it through the Code B qualifiers in 2012 Season Two:
Soccer, Vines, Vampire, Lure, Choya, GuineaPig, GGandol, Dreamertt, Skit, Tree, Hack, Sound, GhostKing, Bomber, Symbol, Revival, True, JookTo, Line, Seal, Golden.
Here's who qualified from Code B during Code A May (2011):
Bomber, Keen, Ryung, YuGiOh, viOLet, Min, Line, Tassadar, Creator, Avenge, Lure, Squirtle, TopClass, finale, Nuts, Brown

Well it's not surprising that it's an exception now, since all the good players have gone up (and the bad players down). That kind of stability is really nice, and it's fun trying to identify the next big thing

do you know if there is a comprehensive list of code b monsters anywhere on tl ? i dont know where to look for it but i kinda agree, the format changes in gsl seem to be paying off a bit. still afaik players like Yonghwa and Dream are still code b for example. but code a seems to be the new code b, and up and downs are even more of an hell on earth
i wonder what will happen when code b will eentually contain all kespa players...

Code S becomes even more insane, Code A becomes a legit major tournament in itself, and Code B gets broadcast because to many good players are stuck there and we all want to watch?

When exactly does the broadcast for the free matches start?
|
code a already is a legit tournament imo. i dont think even this late in starcraft 2, that most ppl realise how good koreans progamers are. look at players like virus, nobody ever see those guys in foreign tounaments, but he was still able to beat both mc and nestea in code s. code a almost shouldnt be any different from code s when u look at skill level
btw how did both forgg and the best look apparently the games were nice o;
