A skilled player can find ways to receive recognition The thing is the teams won't get players that don't bring in viewers. If these players don't have teams that can sponsor them they can't compete in many tournaments. But if a player has raw skill and if he trains well (you can not be a contender for GSL without team I know lol, but you can get a decent level just by practising alone, at least that's my opinion), he can place well in some minor tournaments, like Playhem dailies, and if he is consistent, teams will be interested cause he has the potential to improve with good teammates and to bring some results and attention to the team itself  For example, when Millenium acquired Stephano, he was not a very-known player, and he started by playing in every GO4SC2 (a tournament in Europe twice a week), and he did very well so then he competed in european tournament and then international tournaments. I think this is a problem specific to NA actually, people seem much more attached to the veterans there.In europe is a little easier to stand out also, you can stand out in a single country first and grow on that. Vibe for example has been here for a decent time and yet most people don't know him. Maybe i'm wrong but in the NA the image many time truphs the skill.
You pick Vibe as an example, but even though i'm european, I know him for quite a while cause I sometimes watch NASL, but from what I saw of him, nothing really impressed me, i thought he was a good player but not amazing. I'm not sure the image is so important : yes Incontrol is known but people don't think he's one of the best americans, and IdrA is known, and maybe he's not anymore the best in NA, but there was a time when he was clearly the best in America and was even one of the best foreigner, so the attention he receives is not totally undeserved

It's not extended, they never played before, grand finals are bo5 and they both start from 0-0.
If they met earlier it would have been starting from 2-1 or 2-0 extended to bo7 into bo9 if the loser wins first to 4.
