I don't understand the people saying new american players can not emerge cause we focus our attention to old players like IdrA, Incontrol, ...
If a new player from America has a lot of skill, he will have good games @ international tournaments like MLG, and then he will have some attention, like for exemple Illusion when he defeated some koreans.
A skilled player can find ways to receive recognition

The thing is the teams won't get players that don't bring in viewers.
If these players don't have teams that can sponsor them they can't compete in many tournaments.

But if a player has raw skill and if he trains well (you can not be a contender for GSL without team I know lol, but you can get a decent level just by practising alone, at least that's my opinion), he can place well in some minor tournaments, like Playhem dailies, and if he is consistent, teams will be interested cause he has the potential to improve with good teammates and to bring some results and attention to the team itself
For example, when Millenium acquired Stephano, he was not a very-known player, and he started by playing in every GO4SC2 (a tournament in Europe twice a week), and he did very well so then he competed in european tournament and then international tournaments.

I think this is a problem specific to NA actually, people seem much more attached to the veterans there. In europe is a little easier to stand out also, you can stand out in a single country first and grow on that. Vibe for example has been here for a decent time and yet most people don't know him. Maybe i'm wrong but in the NA the image many time truphs the skill.

And.... this is why it's so hard for new blood to rise in the US.

Because their own countrymen don't FUCKING CARE.

Look at the brackets of this tournament and the open bracket too. The new talent is there but people just want to focus on the existing veterans like this is Pro Wrestling.

You have someone you've never seen and never heard, here in the grand finals of the USA where guys like IDra and Sheth participated. The WCS has finally let the doors open to good players that couldn't step through the doors because no one would let them in before.

Finally, like Korea, the US has something to for unknowns to work for. Don't yawn and turn your eyes at this tournament. Learn about it. Educate yourself.

The problem here is WHEN they decide to show this. Everyone is super hyped after seeing Alicia vs MKP and want to see the finals and then we got this.
Yea, it is part of the event but it kills hype and you cannot blame people for not being that interested.
They should have planned this tourney another time and it would get way more attention and less bashing.

It's too bad Daisuke didn't go on stage too. We would have actually gotten a chance to see who that guy is.

Congrats to both him and Vibe. Not the easiest tournament to place first and second in, despite it only being Americans.

Suppy/Select in champion losers round 1 was an extended series

Damn, missed that one. Well, at the very least we were quite close to a perfect run.

first, this is usa. second, usa is one country so don't compare it to europe.

If you compare it population-wise though, we really are pretty bad.

its only equivalent to a few countries. besides, you have to take the culture into account

US population is over half the size of EU afaik. The culture part is pretty big though.

US population is 30 times the size of sweden, or 6 times of ukraine. pretty funny.

has nothing to do with population. its about culture. progaming has been accepted in europe for a longer time than it has in the US. its just starting to be accepted in the US.

pro gaming is still a joke to almost everyone.

Actuallly CNBC recently invested in Esports and that would certainly weaken your case that pro gaming is a joke to almost everyone. Esports is growing and will become more accepted and understood over the next few years.

since when was nbc almost everyone

You think that CNBC would invest in something that didn't have the potential to draw a big crowd and big money? Inherent in this statement is the assumption that what draw big crowds and big money is generally accepted by more than just a few people, as you suggest.

It's like the half time show of an NFL game where they let the little 6 year olds who barely know how to run without falling down play.

Everybody is like "aww look at them trying, it's so cute!"
