ALT StarCraft is proud to announce its new monthly showcase series, The Gauntlet!
The premise is simple: Team ALT challenges a pro to a best of 5 showmatch. The catch? The pro only has himself vs 5 members of Team ALT. Our wonderful team of up and comers have proven they can compete at a high level with a near win over Quantic in a NASL Qualifer back in January. The question is now how will our team stack up versus the very talented and unique playstlye of Root Gaming's leader and founder, Catz?
The event will take place on Wednesday, June 6 at 7pm EST (-04:00 GMT). If the featured pro player is able to take the series he or she will be awarded the ample sum of $100 as well as an invite to the bi-monthly AGL Tournament. However, if Team ALT can bust out a win, the prize will be split amongst the 5 competing players and the invite will still be awarded to our featured pro player as a consolation.
Our first featured pro will be none other than Root Gaming's leader and founder, CatZ! As a nod to the triumphant return of Root Gaming, we're incredibly excited to have CatZ play against Team ALT and be the first featured pro in what should be an exciting new series.
The idea of the Gauntlet came about when discussing ways to help improve Team ALT's competitive play and to quell any possible issue with nerves that can arise from playing against professional players. While the ladder does offer this to some extent, a match with money on the line certainly adds a level of complexity to it. With Sonic recently qualifying for the WCS we wanted to prepare not only him but the rest of our team for the plethora of tournaments happening over the summer. Additionally, we hope to eventually feature other amateur teams in our Gauntlet in due time.
Without further ado, let me announce (in no specific order) Team ALT's five players for this month's Gauntlet:
Sonic – Terran – WCS Qualifier and a solidly aggressive macro Terran. Bails – Protoss – ALT's most recent acquisition and a frightening young force. DeaDoX – Protoss – An incredibly versatile French-Canadian Protoss who finished 7th at LAN ETS. Elige – Terran – A formidable Terran with a very distinct early-mid game style. Webz – Zerg – NESC2 LAN Qualifier. A subtle yet vicious NA Top Masters Zerg player.
The match will begin promptly at 7pm EST (-04:00 GMT) and will continue on for as long as it needs to. It will be casted by the Knack and Windy. Make sure you tune in for there will be giveaways featuring a t-shirt! You can find all the necessary links below.

About Paulo “CatZ” Vizcarra:
A Peruvian native known for his unorthodox strategies, CatZ is a professional Zerg player on the newly reborn Root Gaming which he founded with Drewbie. With a great personality and fun-loving guy all around, CatZ presents a breath of fresh air in the very tense and sometimes high strung environment of competitive gaming. With Root having a roster featuring the likes of KiWiKaKi, Destiny, and SLush, it is no surprise that Root and Catz alike are formidable competitors in every aspect of the word. We're very proud and gracious to have CatZ be our first pro in our Gauntlet series. Best of luck to him and our players.

CatZ fighting
|
CatZ is pretty inconsistent, but he shows occasionally he can beat the best of the best with his unique playstyle, kinda like TLO but a more extreme example of it, because he can also be beaten by most progamers.

|
I love the idea, and hope to watch tonight.
My only suggestion would be to change it to say $15 a win, with $25 going to whichever "team" wins the whole thing.
This makes the showmatch guaranteed to go to 5 giving all involved experience, and still keeps the ideal behind the team format.
Regardless, excellent initiative, and I'm sure it will be a blast

Whoever thought of this format deserves to be paid a lot more than whatever they are making, just saying
|
hmm, normally i would tell the pro player to watch out for unusual strats from the unknown players, but Catz is not someone that would play standard anyways. As for the Alt players, im going to watch out for my boy Sonic, who is going to WCS and MLG this weekend. Hopefully he can jumpstart his success here
|
|
Hey everyone we are going live in 45 minutes!!!! Come check out the action within the hour!!! ALT FIghting!!!

We unfortunately make nothing. The idea was a group collaboration and truthfully we're not sure who pioneered the original idea. However, we'll gladly accept your continued viewership as a form of payment!
