Invited Player Profiles
Thorzain
Name: Marcus Eklöf Game ID: EG.Thorzain Race: Terran Age: 21 Nationality: Swedish Largest Achievement: 1st Dreamhack Eizo Open 2012
Thorzain, the most successful non-korean Terran, is currently in amazing shape after his Dreamhack win, securing his 2nd large tournament victory almost a year after his TSL 3 victory in 2011. Using this momentum he finally broke through and won his first MSI cup after falling short five times in a row, finishing 2nd place in each. His intelligent builds and strict understanding of timings with crucial patience will be key for him to continue his streak in this tournament, he really is looking strong and is a clear favourite to win the entire tournament.
Lucifron
Name: Pedro Moreno Duran Game ID: Karont3.Lucifron Race: Terran Age: 20 Nationality: Spanish Largest Achievement:1st The Gathering 2012
No doubt in my mind, Lucifron is one of the most talented players out there, he is just naturally good at games and then you combine that with some hard work and dedication and you come out of no where to win 7500euro and beat huge names at The Gathering. Even though he hardly enters online tournaments and just practices on the ladder, he has been placing and staying incredibly high in GM himself showing great games when he pops on other players streams. May not be pegged as a straight up favourite for this tournament but he easily has the potential to beat any player in the scene.
Polt
Name: Choi Sung Hoon Game ID: TSL.Polt Race: Terran Age: 23 Nationality: Korean Largest Achievement:1st GSL Super tournament 2011
Polt has won more 1day tournaments on the EU server than any where else in the world, he actually doesn't mind playing tournaments here and because Koreans hardly sleep, lets invite him in!! Polt just finished 2nd place at Dreamhack Eizo open losing vs our initial invite Thorzain so I am sure he will be looking for revenge on Saturday. Front line TSL star, really leading by example especially outside of Korea at the tournaments world-wide. Very excited to have our first Korean within the SCAN Invitationals and I am sure he will represent well.
Bischu
Name: Jesper Johansson Game ID: dignitas.Bischu Race: Protoss Age: 22 Nationality: Swedish Largest Achievement:
Team League All Kill (5-0) vs Millenium
The Team Dignitas representative within this tournament is here! Bischu, an underdog here but definitely deserves a shot with the big names with solid performances recently especially with his team league results and has been doing well in Playhem dailies, 4 out of 5 he has been a finalist winning 2 and finishing 2nd place in the other 2. Bischu is a macro focused Protoss player with great builds and very decisive strategies that are designed around opponents which gives him a great edge when he knows who he will fight against. Lets see how well he will do here!!
White-Ra
Name: Aleksey Krupnyk Game ID: Tt.WhiteRa Race: Protoss Age: 31 Nationality: Ukrainian Largest Achievement: 1st IGN Proleague 2
Age and experience enters the ring in the form of one dangerous guy, WhiteRa. He has never had the opportunity to play within the SCAN invitational due to his crazy travel schedule and its a pleasure to have him represent Protoss here! WhiteRa is a very scary player to go up against because you can't predict what he will do, its very difficult to read whether he grabs a super early 3rd base of does something crazy aggressive, you have to always be on your toes. Expect great games from this idol!
Seiplo
Name: John Seipel Game ID: Ai.Seiplo Race: Protoss Age: 17 Nationality: Swedish Largest Achievement: 3rd Copenhagen Games 2012
Seiplo a player that you may question the reasoning for his invite into this tournament but I believe that he has great potential as a top EU Protoss player, so lets give new blood a chance!! Finishing top 8 Dreamhack Winter after beating HuK in the ro16, also Genius in group stages before finally losing vs Her0 was a great achievement and then he finished 3rd at Copenhagen games taking the victory over Happy for the bronze medal. Even though we have seen good results in the past and that we could do well here, it will not be easy, that is for sure!
Dimaga
Name: Dmytro Filipchuk Game ID: mTw.Dimaga Race: Zerg Age: 25 Nationality: Ukrainian Largest Achievement: 1st Assembly Summer 2011
Since we only have two Zerg players within this tournament, we need two strong Zerg players!!! Dimaga, one of the most consistent Zerg players out there! Almost has legendary status simply because of his victory in GSL World Championship over Nestea in Zerg vs Zerg during Nesteas unbeatable period. Dimaga a very scary Zerg, especially with his stubborn style vs Protoss, we could see some dramatic games Saturday, one thing for certain though, Dimaga isn't here to finish last.
Hyun
Name: Ko Seok Hyun Game ID: TSLHyun Race: Zerg Age: 24 Nationality: Korean Largest Achievement: - Ro16 Dreamhack Eizo Open 2012
Hyun joins his team-mate and also countryman Polt in the SCAN invitaitonal! These guys play so much within EU tournaments that there was a joke they had won enough Playhem dailies to afford the plane ticket to Sweden for the DH open! After some super impressive displays at Dreamhack and I excited to see his progress once again, he had been struggling with any matchup late game, grasping the difference between BW and SC2 in such short notice but I am sure his errors will have been ironed out by now!! Welcome Hyun as our 8th player!!!
Apollo always delivers so this is going to be awesome. Already looking forward to it. Stephano, Naniwa, Bling, Mana, Nerchio, Ret, Thorzain and Kas would be great.
I bought a computer from scan a month ago on the 2nd of april and they haven't even dispatched it yet, sent them an email about it and they said a part was missing depite them sending me several emails telling me that the machine was assembled and was currently being tested. The part missing was the video card so I don't know what they were thinking especially since they sent me an email saying that all parts had been found.
So whilst I am not crazy about the sponsor I will still very much be interested, should be good.
EDIT: Scan apologized this morning and more then made up for it. They were very forthright as well.
why does everyone have to do this " i reaveal 2 players a day" thing? so annoying.... it always gets me thinking, there is no good lineup so i don't even bother following the tournament
nevertheless, i enjoyed the last one and will certainly enjoy this one as well

Apollo always picks a sick lineup. Have faith mate.

If you make a complete annonucement about a week before an event and then stop mentioning it people will forget about it. If you make a complete announcement the day before not enough people will know about it.
Staggering the invitees day by day guarantees a lot of visibility and keeps the hype alive.
i srsly dont think he deserves an invite, but since Apollo is a dignitas member, its kind of undestandable i guess^^ Hes not a bad player by any means, but there would be better choices skill wise and popularity wise
All the previous Scan Invitationals have been won by Zerg, I wonder if this will continue. Bring back the previous champions, Stephano and Nerchio! Also more singing please by Semmler, he also needs to laugh more! Semmler with his infectious laughing and Apollo with his crystal ball predicting things, it really enhances the viewing experience.
Team Polt fighting! Now with thorzain you have my favorite Terrans covered.
So it's time for some Zergs now? I hope TLO is one of them. TBH Stephano is too good and predictable of winning it all everyhwere recently so I'd give a chance to others player too :p For another Protoss I guess Grubby or Feast.
On May 09 2012 23:14 d.Apollo wrote: Yeah thats it for Terran players now!! On to Protoss and Zerg!
I hope we have a good set of Terran players here, in the 4previous SCAN invitationals, a Terran has never even made the final!!
Well, with the ones you've got here, I think at least one is guaranteed. I haven't seen much of Lucifron, but Thorzain and Polt are both absolutely sick. You need Zerg and Protoss to match though...so for next two picks, two of Stephano/Nerchio/Violet.

But they have to invite the current champion. Im pretty sure Apollo want to get rid of Stephano since he wins it all the time maybe thats the reason he got Polt. But I think Apollo gonna be disapointed:D
Honestly I hope it'll be 2 zergs at least, but that could still be any 2 zergs out of Violet, Snute, Stephano, Bigs, TLO, Nerchio, Morrow, Scarlett or Sheth. Especially the first 5 are the best chances for the last 2 spots.
On May 11 2012 00:19 Mosquitow wrote: I don't think they'll invite Stephano, I guess they want to show games where you don't know in advance who's gonna win, can't blame them.
SCAN invitationals is all about chances for new players as well!! Stephano won the first tournament here against ToD before he went on to win ESWC/IPL3 BeastyQT managed to beat Nerchio in a crazy series. Nightend beat Thorzain before his top 4 Dreamhack finish, Slivko made it to the finals last tournament etc.
This tournament is about great games, great tournament but I want to invite players that deserve the spotlight/chances to play with the best !!
Stephano couldn't play because he is flying to the US tomorrow, he will be back to defend his 3x SCAN winner title lol
On May 12 2012 00:36 Berserkur wrote: Seiplo and Bischu... Why not Socke,Grubby or Mana? Bigger fan bases and better players imo edit: also Bling or Hasuobs
Mana, Grubby, Nerchio, Ret and others have to play their national finals tomorrow or sunday for WCS. With only 8 invites there gotta be some variety and we surely have enough good names =)
We will still see Hellions, they are so fast and good for map control and also to deny creep. Yes they are not as good anymore to pressure the Zerg since the queen's range is now ridiculous. No balance whine here, but I kind of fail to see the reason for that increase in range.
Hellions in superior number are still very good to contain the Zerg and hit critical timings with marines+medivacs.
Why when there is a drop Terran's still walk around there units instead of putting em in a medivac and just drop them in there own base ? Always wonder about this.
On May 13 2012 00:18 yummi wrote: What a rape. Insanely good engagement by Thorzain.
Not really, Bischu fucked it up more than ThorZaiN played it well. He was funneled between his gateways with all his units getting raped by EMP's and his HT getting picked off earlier. WP overall by ThorZaiN to come back but in my opinion that was Bischu's loss more than TZ's win
Gosh Hyun... it's so much easier to massively drone up in SCII... just drone up buddy... 3-base hydra bust doesn't work in SCII!!!! (considering that your roaches don't do any damaage and the "reaver (i.e. immortal) pops out way earlier....
Instant Hyun fan :D I think the reason Hyun lost was beacuse he just doesnt have enough experiance vs a 1 base opener like that, he overreacted really hard to those stalkers making so many lings + a spine + aditional queens. After all that he had almost no drones.

If you have the roaches to suport them ye, don't ever try to retreat with them though. Making them extremly risky to build.

They are actually pretty damn good before colossus and blink
Everyone saying that reactor hellion can still deny creep spread and third bases easily post-patch needs to watch what just happened. 4 queens, sup brah.
Casters should stop saying antiga is easy win for tvz lol, it's getting boring. It's 51/49% and people like mvp, mma, mk are just better than everyone regardless of map.
Thorzain is so amazingly smart and good. Hands down the best foreigner terran (well there's also Lucifron, who happens to be in the other semifinal, sick lineup for this tournament!)
What happened? I tabbed to something else when Hyun seemingly cemented his victory, when I tabbed back Thorzain was killing hatcheries and setting up his planetary
Sigh, Hyun not really showing excellent decision making. Just the usual "CHAAAAARGE" style of mass hydras from SC:BW.
Get those GGlords man... or even a nydus in the back... or multiple nyudses... or baneling drops in overlords on mineral patches... Anything dude.... even ultra drops + lings underneath vs an entrenched position... /end rant /Hyun is infinitely a better player than me so what do I know

Anyway I Thorzain just played that map like a boss

Thorzain happened. Also Hyun suicided mass banelings into a tank line trying to kill a morphing planetary, but Thorzain just cancled the transformation and lifted the command centre up. At that point it was even, and Thorzain swept Hyun's 4th and 3rd with marine drop play and swept it up from there.

Demuslim is also really good, I'd place in top3 foreigner terran, but he's got to improve his TvP. Kas is solid, but nothing amazing.

Kas is up there, he's really damn good. But Thorzain's better than all of them right now. I can't wait till he gets that Slayers recharge, he's gonna be amazing, especially considering how well he got on with the Slayers team.

I like banshees at both main and nat at the same time for the reveal, Hyun still has a sick drone count though

Thorzain's tank spreading is awesome, he managed to have the perfect amount at every point during that engagement. And just as I said that, Hyun finds a hole.
Far out - making 1 broodlord, 11111111111!!!!!!!!! just one will make Thorzain have to suspect more broodlords, thus making a whole bunch of vikings!!!!!
even 1 broodlord can make siege tanks unsiege. Seriously, just make 1 broodlord please!!!!
Hyun is so indecisive :/ runs towards the planetary with his lings, takes a couple of hits and then turns away.. Thorzain is just being patient as usual.
well grats to the Spoon terran, picked the smalles spoon he could find and slowly picked away at Hyun. Ofc Hyun did enjoy the donating of units a tad much, fun games though.

They should tell him to just make Broodlords instead of Ultras to make him realise how much better they are against tank-heavy compositions... even if they have no upgrades.

Sure it is. Maybe if everyone played like him I'd go a little bit insane but I find it quite fun to watch him strangle his opponents to death. Part of the fun is also seeing his opponents trying to break it. There's plenty of aggressive terrans to enjoy but not as many with Thorzain's style.

If everyone played like Thorzain tournaments would take 7 days to complete.
That being said I love watching Thorzain. Because, like you said, his style is kind of unique.
It's also funny that he's said he plays like this because he gets too nervous about moving out and losing. Because of this he spoons instead.
I somehow missed the link they are talking about to post the dirty rig picture, can someone give it to me again please ? Cause the obvious winner is the Quake 3 ad rig.
Thorzain and Lucifron are really causing a Terran revival on the foreign scene, both winning LANs, making this final a TvT rather than the forever PvZ... Foriegner Terran's seem to have finally caught up.
Yeah Lucifrons TvZ has been really good for quite some time.....(I think its his best MU IMO) Will never forget, couple of months ago, when Stephano had a crazy ladder-run on EU and was unbeatable doing crazy stufff to all the EU-terrans......until this guy called Lucifron showed up.....
his last appearance before valencia was funny, everyone was QQing over zerg, he played 200 laddergames and beat nerchio and stpehano in the first tournament he entered. everyone was like "wtf" :D
stephano now is a different class than back then obviously
Been saying for ages that LucifroN was sick as fuck. People finally starting to take notice :D. On a side note compare the professionalism of Apollo last series to that of DeMusliM in the EGMC......different leagues completely and a much more enjoyable cast.

The problem is that he goes randomly inactive because of university. But the guy has raw skills, he learned wc3 and fought for the gold so quickly, very impressive. Would be great to see him going full pro for a year.

No, seriously, whats the EG curse? I haven't heard of it.
I suppose it's the idea that players fall off when they join EG? I don't get that though JYP and puma have been doing better since they joined EG I guess huk kind of dropped off but I have real doubts it's EG's fault.
WTF.... So 3 players bar Thorzain have notably joined EG: Puma: Won NASL before EG, won another NASL, IEM, 2nd at DH, 2 at IEM WC, 3rd at Assembly JYP: Mid level GSL player before...... Mid level GSL player now. HuK: Maybe an admitted drop off, but still won MLG Orlando and multiple top finishing at 3 other subsequent MLGs, not exactly bad.

Well besides those minor details obviously EG ruined those players.
Lucifron is so so good. He'd be the Stephano of terran if it wasn't for his studies.
I remember people calling him a fluke and a joke when DRG dominated him at DH Valencia, so its great seeing him make a comeback and prove the haters wrong.

Karont3 right now appears to be Lucifron, his brother, and one other guy. The team's manager is another one of Lucifron's brothers. Pretty cool, but I wish they had the money to recruit more players. Lucifron deserves more exposure.

Karont3 right now appears to be Lucifron, his brother, and one other guy. The team's manager is another one of Lucifron's brothers. Pretty cool, but I wish they had the money to recruit more players. Lucifron deserves more exposure.
I think that karont3 is supposedly a company with good financial support the issue is that they're spain only so they're in direct contest with apprender for any Spanish players available.
Back in wc3, Lucifron and Stephano were both really promising players, and Lucifron had a bit more talent and accomplishmens, I hope for foreigners and for Lucifron that the same happen in sc2!
I am watching Luci's stream, I am aware that he is super good but owning everyone with perfect score and getting 4-0 against Thorzain... would never guess, it's insane. I really really really hope he decides to take pro gaming absolutely serious and full time, this is just sick... unbelievable.

Please, don't do that, just don't.
I see that a compliment, so good you'd swear he was cheating.

Just like in the playoff of his last LAN-tournament.

I don't understand, sorry.
I just felt like making a joke out of that stream cheating accusation.

No problem just try to get the replays, and look them with lucifron's camera, if he didnt do nothing about 30-40 seconds at least he cheats, but oh wait... that's so much time

I'm pretty sure that he won't change of team in the near future. It's Karont3 who is making a big investment with the team, recruiting the 2 top spanish players (LucifroN, VortiX) and one of the ~top 6 (lolvsxd), the third brother (Ryo) as manager and then they bring the players to tournaments that can be win, such as The Gathering 2k12, Scan Invitational #5, etc. It may seem slow for some people, but I think that is the correct decision.
Sadly, I fear that Luci may not go to the Dreamhack Summer, because iirc he has exams the day before & after the event

Fair enough. I wasn't trying to accuse anyone of doing anything dishonest, I'm just a cynical guy and any clean sweep done live and streamed has me itchy with questions.
It's not difficult to play a good positional TvT when you can see where the enemies tanks are through the fog. edit: this was, by the way, related to the screenshots + video appearing of Clouds tanks being marked from LucifroNs POV, taking from his stream.~

Hopefully not. Reported both.
Luci beasting it up! Not losing a single set vs. these players... damn GG!!!
I didn't watch these games, but I did watch Luci's stream quite a bit when it was on recently, and came away extremely impressed. He is very fast and seems to have great multi tasking.

Just glad I don't have any sponsors that can be complained to :-p
And if you guys keep reading, you'll see that I laid off of it and gave Lucifron the grats his win deserves. I'm a doubtful and cynical man by nature and anyone that sweeps through a tournament so easily leaves me curious. Yes, this includes Stephano's clean sweep as well. I'll admit, I'm an American so my exposure to the EU players is lower for some, I just have tournament results to go by. That's why I was so surprised and doubting when I initially watched these matches today. I've laid down my pitchfork, folks.

you should've watch The Gathering 2012
The times were bad for me and I was more interested in IPL4 at the time but I'll see about finding the vods.

I really second this, but to sign him, Luci gotta be serious about gaming for at least a year. Also, I think karont3 is investing quite a bit right now. On the other side.... mouzLucifron hell yeah !!!!!!!!
Hes not going to join any other team, im 99.99% sure. In karont3 they are ok with him studying and not going full pro, he can discuss with them wich tournaments he want to attend, he gets salary, its a spanish team and his 2 brothers are in. He said hes very happy with the team in an interview after gathering.

he did win some zotac cups in beta.
True but he didnt really play serious. He has allways been known as a big talent but I was like well if he dont take it serious not really gonna bother with him:D
But yea in the current EU scene the "new" players to watch out for are Titan,Tefel,Fraer,Lucifron,BiGs,Feast
Lucifron's got a lot of talent, is capable of being the Stephano of Terran, and has the drive to do it. He just needs to take a year off of his studies and play full-time. His perks are the same as Stephano's - great decision making and multi-tasking, excellent engagements. The way he dismantled Thorzain in base trades was awesome.
