These are the kinds of posts I don't really understand. What did you "love" about watching Geoff's play? When he lost the first game? The second, third or fourth? And he'll "crush next time" based on what? His past results?

Incontrol is a fantastic personality and addition to the community but a good player (relative) he ain't. He seems to have the most blindly optimistic fans in the community however. I find it puzzling.

I wouldn't mind if he turned into a caster instead of a player tbh.
He's pretty insightful, he's just bad at the execution while playing.

a lot of foriegn players are avoiding IPL4 not just Incontrol
judging from the IPL4 line up i don't blame them.

the only foriegners with a realistic shot at doing anything at IPL4 have spent substantial amounts of time in Korea.(except MAYBE Stephano ...big MAYBE here.)

I find your need to break down harmless optimism piece-by-piece puzzling. People have favourite players, and they don't need to justify it why they like watching them play.

I suppose not. But it's as if your favorite sports team got shut out and you are (bizarrely) incredibly optimistic and happy about it. I am a rabid sports and SC2 fan. That's now how I react when it happens in either sphere, but to each their own. Like I said, I find it puzzling.

Doesn't mean it isn't an interesting question. iNcontrol has far and beyond the worst results of any gaming team of EG's caliber, despite his statements that he's training a lot. However, I think most people who are good at analyzing the game can tell that a lot of his builds feel thrown together and unrefined, which makes it hard to believe he spends as much time practicing as he says. As a fan, I feel somewhat lied to.

Pretty much. If my favorite hockey team gets shutout or blown out by the opposition, I'm pretty quick to get critical an/or frustrated. I'll obviously still love them in the future, but that frustration is a natural by-product of liking something enough to care.

Yeh there is no way that Incontrol plays the game for 10 hours (these 10 hours are including forum searching, watchin replays, doing other kinda stuff). Anyway when I watch incontrol play its kinda weird. Its not like he is a very fast player, and then you would think that each of his actions are very efficiently, like Polt/sjow/goody does, but Incontrol just seems to do a lot of random clicks?

It honestly often seems like he he dont know how he should micro his units. HE will just a-cllick a lot. Move teh screen a bit back and forth, and then a -click some more. Am I the only one who feel like they have watched this tendency in Incontrols play? Perhaps there isn't a lot to do as a protoss player (Compared to terran/zerg) but when I watch a toss like Hero I feel like a lot of his actions are efficient (even though his apm is very high).

What indication do you have that its nerve issues? I don't think there are any. His play in ladder when streaming isn't any better, its just that he plays people significantly worse. He started out miles ahead of your average GM player, but that gap is closingly more and more each month. Meanwhile, he's getting completely outclassed by any other salaried player. Meanwhile, he tries to tell his fans he spends a lot of time practicing and that he's gonna have great results.

But I really just don't buy it. His play does not reflect any amount of refinement. He's knowledgeable and is able to ride his instincts and past experiences pretty far, but its really clear that's all he's using lately. I don't mind that he's transitioning into a casting career. There is nothing wrong with that. But at least be honest with your fans. Don't say things that any player with a deep understanding of RTS will be able to clearly see is not the case.

Insults? There are no insults in this thread, you're being way over sensitive.

The comments you find sarcastic are just sensible observations.

Perhaps you should reread the posts then. Saying the games are embarassing isn't exactly constructive criticism, neither is telling him "nice job" when he makes a bad move a sensible observation. Not sure how I'm being overly sensitive when I'm not insulting anyone or getting emotional about it.

I actually missed the "embarassing" comment, I agree that was unnecessary and if that's what your "a-hole" comment was referring to I apologize. Overall the reactions were sensible though, so it seems unnecessary to focus on the very few post which weren't.

Personally I feel like more criticism towards InControl was justified. He makes a point to never BM his opponent, but has no problem taking time between games to diss the fans discussing the games. Those dicussions are good for the interest in SC2. People love to give their opinions, whether they are educated or not. It's like that in all sports, InControl should just learn how to deal with it.

You say I'm happy about "it". I'm not happy that he lost, no, don't be silly. But am I allowed to enjoy watching my favorite player play a game I love? How is that confusing? How is optimism about future performances confusing? I believe iNcontroL is capable of great results. Other fans believe this about many other players out there. What is blind about my support of him? Do I act like he didn't lose? Do I deny the fact that his results haven't been the best for quite a while?

Your use of the word "blind" here is puzzling. I am optimistic, yes. That's often what fans do. Especially when you're a fan who wants to positively impact your player. Do you think just going on and on about how dissappointing someone's play is helps them? Do you think we, as anonymous netizens are suddenly telling them something or informing them of a mistake they aren't already keenly aware? These people do this for a living. When the fuck up, they feel it. They don't need us to say so. Constructive criticism is one thing, and a good thing at that. And no one is expected to pretend they aren't dissappointed or lie about how they feel. However, if all I was going to do was spew negative shit, then why do I need to even type anything? If you want to possibly do the one little thing you can do to help your player (that is, if you really give a shit), show them your support. Show them that people still care about their games. Show them that they have FANS, not only critics. (You can be both, but the word critic is often used to disguise people who just want an excuse to bitch)

This isn't the first time I've seen a response like yours directed to a fan of iNcontroL. Hell, it appears in his fanclub even. I'm not calling you a hater, but that's what your behavior is much more kin to.

I am a fan of iNcontroL. A BIG one. It shouldn't be puzzling that I can enjoy watching his games, no matter the outcome. It shouldn't be puzzling that I am optimistic about someone who I know puts his heart into what he does.

It's puzzling that these concepts are so foreign to so many "fans".

Hey Sonic Death, I like what you say there. I've always respected incontrol a lot and he has certainly grew since NASL casting day to become much bigger than just a player - a solid personality that works hard for EG and also a great person that sponsors love to endorse because he is so much bigger than just a player.

EG definitely has done a lot and put a lot of work in grooming each and every one of their player that lives in the team house. Just look at greg now :D :D: D: :D :D: D: :D:D:D:D

Anyway not sure why im ranting, just wanted to show my support for Geoff and EG.
