Long time lurker first time poster. I wanted to say I absolutely love the high level of casting and games which for the most part are grreat. I was inspired to make an account here to hopefully give some well recieved constructive criticism. Since I am new my opinions worth a grain of sand but still Ill share. Sorry for length of post.
I want to post even though I know no French, I still prefer the casting of Pomf & Thud. I wonder if anyone else is like me?
These guys make every IronSquid into a party, their casting is infectious and fun and makes StarCraft 2 look like the cool place to be with their celebratory GG's and great attitude and handsome nerds with a cool set. After games they are like "Wow isn't it wonderful that IdrA won!!!"
TotalBiscuit and dApollo in constrast feel absolutely funereal. It is my belief that TB could be a little less negative after the end of games. After games there isn't celebration, it's always a post mortem.
Games always end with stuff like "How could Thorzain lose that game, what he has done is prove to the world hes slumping and fading fast <continue 4 minutes of player bashing ~30sec of player praise>
Maybe it's the Anglo-American analytical style. I see that in other sports. We want to talk more about why a team lost, then the winner or why a player is slumping.
I think what TB and dApollo could do on breakout wins is be more positive and try to talk more about stuff like where the loser could have improved and how the winner was totally amazing and try to be more passionate sounding.
Anyway no offense intended great casting during games Mr. Biscuit its just the endings that end up bumming me out when I should be feeling elated over a hard won victory. Maybe I only feel this way.
Is the VOD is still coming out on Tuesday?... even though the match was actually aired Monday.
It would be particularly frustrating for those of us who were unable to see it because of the change. We would have to wait until Wednesday, at a minimum, or more likely on Thursday since we would also want to watch the newer episode with the next group then.

If you can't understand what they are saying, how do you know that their casting is any good? For all you know it's just mindless high-spirited gibberish.

Isn't it the same as people who prefer listening to Koreans cast in Brood War? It may just sound better to them, personally I almost only listen to casts for extra sound rather than a play-by-play or deep analysis.

the compassion and making the game more exciting doesn't have to rely on words alone. I listen to a lot of foreign music including korean, thai, spanish, jap and I don't know any of those languages

This has been a problem in SC2 casting since the beginning. Apparently nobody ever wins in SC2, it's always the other person losing. It's been one of the most annoying things about being a e-sports SC2 fan and at this point I'm getting tired of the current batch of "popular" casters, with the exception of Artosis. Artosis seems like the only person to actually have the ability to properly analyze/critique a player's ability, but he does it with tact. Other casters just bash players without really any understanding of why they're bashing the player other than he lost the battle/game.

Now we are talking about two different things. There is always a thin line between commentary being "informative" and commentary being "engaging", and most casters in all sports can never combine the two correctly. This is not a problem exclusive to Starcraft casting.

That doesn't mean the commentary serves its purpose since you are listening to it for a far different reason than it was originally intended. The same thing applies to your love of foreign music.

my native language is french but i have no clue why, i can't stand french casters.
prolly because they don't sound natural when casting (like watching a french movie, the movie can be good, but the talking will ruin it, it sounds so not natural...)
I love their enthusiasm but I can't for the life of me understand why half of their sentences are made of poorly pronounced English words when there are perfectly functional French equivalents. That's what ruins it for me; it sounds so unnatural. (half brit half french here so I guess I can claim some objectivity)
I'm a french living abroad and imo P&T pronounciation is much better than the average for french guys talking together. Obviously they would pronounce better if they had to speak in english all along. Now I don't get what's the problem with Sata_ and french being not natural in movies... First time I ever hear that...
About the choice to use "roach", "stalker" instead of "cafard" or "traqueur", well imo the "francophone" community is now globally used to the english terms and many watch english casts as well so it doesn't bother that much. It actually did bother me a bit at first as I started seeing french broadcasts by P&T before english ones. I guess the reason why P&T use english words is because they started SC broadcast with SC2 (a bit after the beta I think), after seeing korean and english casts for Broodwar and SC2 beta themselves and be inspired by them (Tastosis, Husky, HD, day9...).

Yeah I almost totally agree with you. I'm french but I live abroad and the only point I disagree with is that french are quite often negative as well, so P&T being positive minded is not so usual to me for french guys.
P&T casting is perfectly natural and refreshing. It's less technical than with day9 for instance, but I prefer it cos I find day9 casting a bit too much clumsy (while still good nevertheless). I like Tastosis casting but P&T is better imo. The reason is exactly what you said (of course it's also a bit because fr. is my mother tongue). They might say a few words about what was not done and was could have been done by the loser, but it's very short and never in an offensive way. Basically they will spend much more time on the victory.
Having fun, a beer and hopefully have chances to watch epic battles, sneaky tactics or even funny fails, for P&T basically that's it. Some people would say it's not deep enough. Well at least if they say crap they're not taking it too seriously.
In this matter HDStarcraft is also doing great as for english casters.

That's normal, it would be scary if you could please everyone. You still please enough people though, like me! Erm this sounds wrong. Only thing I find strange is that you guys don't get an overlay of some sorts after the game, but stay in the game so long.
