This first gg by Idra was fucking ridiculous...

god dammit Idra why just not play it out? What do you have to lose if you just bother to try?

not a fan of this tournament style, in my opinion theres too much of a wait for ppl to see the results. this tournament has been going on for nearly a month and the 2nd group has just started

Yea, feels like I'm losing interest cuz it feels like the tournament is dragging it a bit too long.

Idra and Thorzain getting outplayed by their opponent.

Not really too surprising though. IdrA has been in a slump lately and his play has been disappointing. Thorzain was playing Mvp. This tournament is so stacked I would be shocked to see any foreigners advancing including Stephano who many consider to be the best foreigner atm. He has to play Life (who apparently is sick ZvZ but I haven't seen it before), Jjakji, and MMA as the 3 koreans in his group (both really really good TvZ). Group 2 will almost certainly be MC and Mvp unless Symbol pulls off the upset. Group C will be between Life, Jjakji, and MMA most likely, and group D will be between 2 of Leenock, Nestea and aLive. I know a lot of people don't want it to happen, but an all Korean ro8 is pretty likely, especially with 3 koreans to 2 foreigner ratio in each of the four groups

Totally agree about foreigner vs korean. I 'd be really impressed with Stepahno if he went 2-2 and only lost to the 2 Korean terrans who may have the best TvZ in the world (sorry Gumiho/MKP). But even that would very likely not be good enough since Mana will probably be 0-4. Ret was the foreigners only chance and he threw away the series against Boxer (who he should've beaten) and so none will advance.

Oh ye of little faith. Stephano will make it to the quarterfinals guaranteed. MMA is inexperienced in online leagues and Jjakji isn't quite as impressive when he doesn't specifically prepare for an opponent. I'm not saying Stephano is going to go 4-0 but I would be more surprised if he didn't make it out.

IEM versus SuperNova..to be fair SuperNova played very sloppily in his games.

Literally, haha

I really don't understand ThorZaIN picking MVP Shipyard, he's only dropped 2 games on it during the GSL >.> easily MVP's best map.

Hey when you have the sickest TvZ in the world and roflstomp all Zergs in any tournament booth, who cares about online experience? The whole "nerves" and "experience" thing work the other way LOL. Also, Jjakji kinda pulls his weight in all the GSTL/IPL team tournaments, which FYI don't have much preparation. I'm not saying Stephano is going to go 0-4 but I would be more surprised if he made it out.

I remember this thread from last year about an "anonymous" playing NA ladder with an insane winrate. People speculated it was IMMvp, but I don't think it was ever confirmed. Now we have 100% proof because MVP is playing on the account anonymous in iron squid.

He's used it in MLGs and other NA tournaments, this is nothing new.

Ironsquid has been a great success. Group A had tons of excitement and drama, the entire lineup is stacked, and the production values are pretty nice. It's doing very well for an online tournament, particularly as a new start-up.

If you aren't watching this, you should be.

Edit: As for the people saying the tournament is a bit too long, I actually like it. Don't get me wrong...I don't want a lot of tournaments like this, but I very much enjoy not feeling compelled to sit through 12 hours of play in one day simply because a whole tournament is packed into a single weekend.

I like tournaments that are short...a big bang and then it's over; they feel like most major sporting events to me. Take MLG, for example: it feels like the NFL to me...lots of games being played with one winner at each event leading up to a big finale at the end being comparable to individual games leading to the Superbowl - basically each event is short but sweet and yet a story still builds and there's a nice climax.

With that said, Ironsquid feels more like a television series to me: I tune in once or twice a week and watch the plot slowly build until the season finale. As I said, I don't want a lot of tournaments like this but at the same time I like having at least one once(twice)-a-week style thing that I can watch in short bursts without it enveloping an entire weekend. I can watch as I please, not go into hermit mode to do so, and if I miss a week I don't feel like I missed this huge momentous event, the magic of which I can never recapture.
