BRACKET: HEREThe tournament will start February 11th (February 12th KST) with the Ro128 and Ro64! Please adjust accordingly
On February 11th, 2012, North American Star League will host the qualifying tournament for NASL Season 3. The NASL is one of the most prestigious eSports tournaments, with exposure to thousands of fans and spectators on a weekly basis. As such, there is no greater pedestal outside of Korea for a player to stand and make himself known.
For instance, PuMa famously rose to stardom by winning the first NASL Open tournament and advancing to the finals, where he took down MC in arguably the most exciting and dramatic series of games ever in Starcraft 2. Likewise, MoMaN gained notoriety and adoration through his application video and winner interviews, and made himself known as a competent player – competing in both season 1 and 2.
Thus, regardless of the end result, competing in the NASL is a worthwhile experience for any player aspiring toward eSports greatness.
Playing Against the Best Players in NASL Season 3 will be pitted against some of the world’s best players on a weekly basis. In Season 3 of the NASL, there will be prize money on the line for every match, raising the stakes and making it so that each of the 45 players in the league has a chance to earn prize money.
A Grueling Process However, the qualifying tournament won’t be easy – players will battle in a single elimination format with the top 8 advancing to the next season of the NASL. However, to reward the players who make it to the top of the qualifiers, a $1,000 prize pool has been added. The winner will walk away with $500, 2nd place will earn $250, and the two semi-finalists will each be awarded $125.
You’re Invited! NASL has opened the floor for anyone who wants to participate and get their names on the world’s biggest stage to sign up!
Registration will open January 25th and run until February 8th at 10:00pm EST. After this, the bracket will be posted, and the tournament will begin February 9th! The entire tournament schedule and details can be found below:
Tournament Details: Place: NA Battle.net server , Channel NASL (NASL2, NASL3, if full) Start time: 11am PST (2:00pm EST | 20 CET | 4:00am KST)
Tournament Schedule: February 11th – Ro128 [start map: TPW Odyssey] + Ro64 [start map: Bel Shir Winter] February 16th – Ro32 [start map: NASL Antiga Shipyard] February 17th – Ro16 1st half [start map: ESV Ohana RE] February 18th – Ro16 2nd half [start map: TPW Artifice] February 23rd – Ro8 [start map: TPW One Must Fall] February 25th – Semi Final [start map: TPW Damage Inc] March 3 – Finals [start map: NASL Antiga Shipyard]
Note: There were 16 player seeds given out... TLPD ranking was used to determine the top 16 seeds. The tournament will start February 11th (February 12th KST)!! The Ro128 games and Ro64 games will be played!
Map Pool: TPW Artifice TPW One Must Fall ESV Ohana RE TPW Damage Inc TPW Odyssey Bel Shir Winter NASL Antiga Shipyard
Casting: Casting is welcome for all rounds up to the Ro32. For the Ro32 and Ro16, NASL may invite personalities to cast select matches. All games casted by the NASL cannot be casted by any 3rd party, and all games past the Ro16 cannot be casted by any 3rd party.
BRACKET LINK
Just to clear things up:
a) You can play your match early if you speak to your opponent, but you are not required to, nor is your opponent required to play you early if you ask
b) Anyone can stream games, as long as both players agree to it, and NASL isn't casting it. For the Ro128 and Ro64, there is no 'official streamers' list. It's up to you (the caster) and the players to work it out.
c) All matches are BO3, the info can be found in the OP, and on NASL.tv
d) All games that are played must be reported to me via email (xeris@nasl.tv), with REPLAYS included, and your name and round. Results that are not reported correctly might result in you being forfeited.
e) Free wins will be awarded at 20:20 CET (11:20am PST, 2:20pm EST) if your opponent doesn't come online. Free wins must be reported via email (xeris@nasl.tv), with your name, your opponent's name, and the round. Free wins will NOT be given for people trying to play early.

Great looking stuff Xeris, I can't wait for the new and improved NASL!
You can bet I'll be working my players hard so all 8 spots don't get taken by LighT players.

Yes.. they're still relatively new

Are the Korean teams participating in season 3?
Hopefully some new talent can make it through!

More koreans might be inclined to play if you guys didn't host the tournament at 4 AM KST. Hell, I wish I could play in these also -.-

That sounds refreshingly optimistic!

Just out of curiosity, with 45 slots for NASL Season 3,
How are the other 37 spots going to be filled?
|
um is this going to be during the MLG arena qualifiers?
edit: yup definitely going to be conflicting with a ton of stuff. too bad you decided to draw the tour out over a month otherwise I'd play

33 from Season 2, 4 from the semi open, 8 from this ~~

I fail to see how IPL 4 Qualifiers are "Community News" and NASL 3 Qualifiers aren't......

Because TL has a petty bias against NASL. As evident by their preview of the Grandfinals and Season 2.
edit: Also this was just posted today. And it takes a little time for the staff to make something community news.

When do we get to see the players from season 2 who remain? I remember reading on the NASL website that Axslav stayed in somehow, despite his placing.
Edit: Btw, anyone wondering who got into NASL3 from the semi-open earlier: ThorZaIN, Gatored, CrazyMoviNG, TargA

I'm not sure if NASL.tv has them up, but liquipedia has who's qualified on the group page for season 2.
|
pretty terrible time. 11 am....
|
With a ton of other tournaments and events happening, trying to appeal to people in 3 different regions of the world... there is no such thing as a good time, unfortunately.
|
understood - but 11 am pst / 2 pm est / 4 am KST on weekdays seems too early for all timezones though. (school, work, sleep?)
|
I couldn't tell if your header graphic was advertising NASL or Tron... O_O

The only other option is to make it in the evening, which completely rules out European participation. This is a sort of middle ground.
|
really like the format of this season, HUGE improvement imo, keep up the good work!

Yes, I know, I edited a lot of that in there.
But note how Axslav got 4th last and should be eliminated? And note how this says he is qualified for season 3? That assumes that some people above him dropped their spots, I am curious as to whom.
|
I can't believe that this isn't community news. wow
|
This really needs a little more love, It's pretty sad this didn't even get "featured"
|
|
Considering a tine change to make it in the evening , will post tomorrow , perhaps with a poll !
|
if time change to evening happened I would love it, can't play early cuz of work...
|
I'll look at my work schedule next month but we'll see.
I'm moving to a new base sometime in upcoming weeks and I've been stuck on terrible shifts lately.
But hopefully, I get nice opponents who will play sometime prior to my shifts or after them if I sign up.

As of now, you almost have a 100% chance to qualify !

Would it not be an option to let players coordinate with eachother a time that would work well, if they cannot agree then it goes to the default time listed? With only one round a day I feel like this shouldn't cause any scheduling issues as long as the game is played that day.
|
It is way to difficult for most players to even make the times, I know I work on most of these days, evening time would be most beneficial. Only full time StarCraft players have the luxury to make this.

Do you need to be over 18 to participate? I know online tournaments like playhem that payout are age limited.

Of course you make your player show up at these mid day times to play their matches too, right? So even if you bumped it to a better time, if anyone made it through they wouldn't be able to show up to these match times...

Because Europeans don't play at those hours, but Koreans have proven time and again that they do. Not saying it's good to make a group of people stay up all night to play, but unfortunately, this is how it has to be when you have live open qualifiers...

It depends on how many players total we get for the qualifier ... but probably not. For the ro16 onwards, you can expect most of the games to be cast, however.

yeah - I would like to sign up, but it's all so spread out... is there actually a reason for this instead of doing it over the course of like 2 days?

If you're serious about participating then you'll find time of course. Let alone even if you pay the $10 and no show, you are still aiding Xeris and NASL by supplying that $10 which could be used for the services and/or prize money that is paid out.
Example - I'm active military who works shifts (6am-3pm or 3pm-6am), not to mention I have 2 kids under the age of 4 and I'm out-processing this fail base in Florida and having to move across the country to Washington. I'm leaving on 1 March for that note. So I have a pretty packed plate.
Honestly I dont expect to make into the finals so me leaving 1 March wont affect anything, not to mention come the 13th I'm done with my office since I have my final out-brief with my commander at that time.
edit -

I feel like although its awesome that Koreans are signing up 5/7 are actually not on korean teams, which leads me to still wonder if whatever issues between NASL and most of the Korean teams got resolved

SlayerS was also not apart of SC2Con (for Min&Ryung).
It seems like other Korean teams still don't want to participate in NASL.

I've done what needs to be done and extended the invitation, and sent emails/letters directly to them and spoken to several teams directly on skype / msn. So, let's hope that Koreans will participate~~
If not, then they'll be missing out on an awesome tournament and the Koreans who are playing will be much happier about potentially getting a shot at $100,000

Duran, you're forgetting Revival. If I remember correctly, Wag is the ID over on Playhem that he's been using with the identifier.

Should put this on the topic. Seems like having the option to schedule the match between the players would address a lot of the complaints in this thread.

How do I know whether or not I am confirmed?

I just got confirmation from my RL job that I can attend this event. The only issue I have is that it is around the same time as the IPL Qualifiers. Will this be a conflict if 1 or 2 games delay the match?

It's flexible enough, there shouldn't be probs.

Will the brackets be posted on the 8th? I only ask to see if it would be possible to play round 1 matches on the 8th if not the 9th in the morning.

Is there going to be a Qualifier on the EU server or is this one the only Qualifier that is also for the European players? Because there are really few European sign ups.

It better not. Hopefully the bracket would be seeded somehow. It's already ridiculous that 8 players are qualifying through one single elimination bracket. If there's only 1 qualifier w/ so many people advancing then it should at least be double elimination. With single elimination what happens if two great players that should probably be in the top 8 meet before the round of 8 so a great player could be eliminated b/c he was unlucky by getting a harder bracket compared to others. That's why it should be double elimination when so many people are advancing (similar to the current MLG qualifiers)

I think this qualifier is going to be worse than GSL preliminary hell, which is saying something. I do hope NASL becomes a lot more stringent in getting players to the next season, like maybe only guaranteeing the spots of whoever makes it the finals and holding the rest for qualifier.

Judging by the talent in this qualifier I'd guess that for next season, they'll be dropping more players in order to get more new, better blood in there.
PS: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/North_American_Star_League_Season_3/Season_3_Qualifier is an easier way to look at who is participating. I try to keep it up to date, as do some other people.

The bracket has been posted! You can find more information here:
http://nasl.tv/News/Article/2012-02-09-nasl-season-3-qualifier-bracket-released
Just a note about seeding. I used TLPD (international) ranking to determine the top 16 seeds. Everyone else was randomly placed in the bracket. I thought TLPD was the most objective and fair way to determine seeding, since there is not really a better or more fair ranking system. Any other ranking would be too subjective on my part. I acknowledge that the seeding method is not perfect, but it is fairly objective.

Could you help out a 3rd party caster who would like to cast the early rounds? How will I be able to get in and cast some games?
|
It's open casting, so if you want to cast games, all you have to do is ask the players. If they're ok with it, then I'm ok with it! Everyone should be in the bnet channel so it should be easy enough to locate them

How do you see what their Name.# is on the site? Having difficulties seeing what Plaga1's information is.
Edit - Nevermind >_<; its under the contact which I was too blind to see just waking up but the Name.Code is invalid Xephyr.1337
Edit 2 - >_< wow I need to not be on right when I wake up found the name.codes. Had a question there is three different Plaga's registered Plaga1, Plaga2, Plaga3 with same country and name information within the account. Is this the same person registered with 3 different accounts?
Edit 3 - Holy shit. So I just got a text message saying that I'm leaving early tonight as soon as the office staff leave so no later than 6pm EST give or take unless my commander stays late like he has been known to do. So if we dont get to play before I go in we can play right when I get home around 6-7pm EST 3-4pm PST.
Plaga if you read this FTaCtSony.183 NA message would like to get this out of the way since I am working 3pm EST/12pm PST until midnight est/9pm PST. Worst case scenario I can play when I get home but would prefer not too.

Top 8:
1. (Polt / Heart / Theognis / SenDoh / Attero/ Slush / JazBas) vs (Oz / Lalush/ Sterling/ DMasterG /Seala / BabyKnight / Akresh / YoonYJ)
2. (Lucky / Plaga3 / Response / Spades / Agh / Revival / Socke) vs (JYP/ Cella / Plaga2 / Pinder / NancyPelosi / asd/ Yata / jEcho)
3. (Leenock / Gix / Minigun / Naama / DeathAngel /Cuhz / Ryze) vs (Ryung / Soultrain / Golden / Mafia / Satiini / LessonforU / Bareleon / Verdi)
4. (Violet / Killer / Tod / Heavens / DBS / Alicia / Symbol) vs (Satiini again? /AlexCmoi / Tear / Mook / Nyaru / Pomi / Deth / Ruff)
5. (Stephano / SangHo / Phoenix / Spydo / Dox / Drewbie / Inori) vs (Check / Xenocider / Min / Seth / Binski / Delphi / FullTiltPokr / Real)
6. (Zenio / Caliber / Bischu / Bonk / ZaiZai / Choya / Panther) vs (Sase / Shuffle / Ranged / Grubby / Abver / Oracle / Goswser / KnowMe)
7. (Alive / Temeraire / Noxn / TheBest / Incontrol / Maddelisk / Enderr) vs (Bling / Murder / Future / White / Pokebunny / Stjarnan / LZ / Safari)
8. (Sleep / Plaga1 / Sony / Gumiho / Onestar / Kawaii / Moon) vs (Artist / Kinzu / Jerran / Combatez / TTF / LiveZerg / Major / FastFake)
So pretty even bracket. I'd say the second half of spot 8 is pretty weak in comparison though.

Just to clarify since opponents and I are on the same page.
The NASL Qualifiers are 1 best of 3 match or are they best of 1 like the bracket states.
Also can you give a list of "approved and verified" individuals who are going to be streaming if they will be. Also if one of the parties in the match disagrees to have a streamer other than a NASL directed streamer are they to be allowed?

All games bo3. And yes, players can refuse casting if they want (unless nassl casts it).

|

Lol, I saw Cella playing under the account Combatez on his stream the other day, so I figured he might have lent his account to a Slayers player. Cool to see it's Boxer!!
