Ukraine also has better internet than most other western countries. Well, to be fair after the whole USSR thing a lot of countries were stuck in an odd position. There was little to no money invested in the long term into infrastructure, so they needed to reinvest into that. Following with a capitalist economic structure replacing the communist one certain industries became much better over time since they were invested in through foreign money. So traditionally run state assets (since like most other countries in Europe) like health and public safety didn't get the same initial boost that other industries received due to foreign investment. Right now the state run stuff is still catching up but the privately owned stuff has had a lot longer to really get to where it is and has had more money over time thanks to private investments and the lack of overhead the state had to deal with. The state itself had to spend a lot of money to transition into being independent, and change from communism to liberal democracy and capitalism. The eastern European countries are closing the gap in terms of public services but they are definitely modern in every sense of the word with regards to everything else. | ||
