|
Would you stop announcing all those players, please? I can't take this awesomeness anymore.
This is going to be the foreign online tournament with the highest average skill level since like forever.
|
Games of Koreans vs Foreigners will be played on NA server. and Korean vs Korean on Kor server
|
On January 17 2012 02:01 Millenium wrote: Games of Koreans vs Foreigners will be played on KR server. That flat out sucks for the guys in EU, from EU to KR according to pingtest I have a ping of 600ms, which for gaming is unusable.
At the least EUvsKR should be on NA.

A new player is know, check it out !

What this tournament needs, is a bit of Grubby

I hope to see a good korean terran like bomber or MKP now :p

+ Show Spoiler +
All of the 14 players have been announced.
|
It's gonna be lengen... wait for it.... DARY!!!
|
|
I can't remember of any online EU or US cup with such a stacked lineup ever before :o Very hard to designate a winner, I guess Oz, Polt and Stephano are favorite, but every player has a chance to go far or even win.
|
Effing great! Btw: Adebisi will be streaming all 3 days, Khaldor will be streaming day 2 and 3. And there maaaay be a live feed from the Nuremberg Barcraft in Germany :D
|
I would love to see a nice perf from Grubby after is bad run at IEM but it's gonna be hard.
|
Hi everyone. The bracket is up.
|
I would have bet all my money that Grubby would meet either Nerchio or Stephano....
|
Will Korea VS Europe games be played on NA server ?

Games between Koreans and Foreigners will be played on NA server, and Korean vs Korean on KR server.

The MSI/Millenium Cup has always the best player pool of all monthly tournaments.
|
So many matches I'm looking forward to

Yes really weird coincidence. And if Grubby wins he will meet Stephano again!
|
no, if grubby wins against nerchio he will meet thorzain
|
Awesome players, kind of a shame that all the Koreans are in one part of the bracket, but you can't help it when the bracket is random.
|
I don't think the bracket is random at all, it will allow koreans to play on their servers.

14 players, RO16 bracket with 2 byes ? Are there 2 players missing ?

Top 2 from last tournament usually gets a bye.
|
On January 25 2012 01:24 Thezzphai wrote: Awesome players, kind of a shame that all the Koreans are in one part of the bracket, but you can't help it when the bracket is random.
Actually it is not random at all. This is made so that the korean players can play in their server and thus have the best game environment possible (ping and so on), at least for the two first round.
Millenium and Llewellis (whom organizes the event) are so kind and gentle with the players actually. Llewellis said in Millenium.tv that players are so happy with schedules and organization that they are always eager to play next MSI Pro Cup (like ThorZaIN for instance, who spammed him to play the #4, he said).
I'm kinda sad for Grubby that he'll again fight against Nerchio (at least it is not Stephano this time). I'm also waiting for Kas vs. Stephano, the best European terran against arguably the best European zerg.
|
When does it actually start? It says 19:30h CET every playday in the first post and on the Cuppage. But its 20:00h CET in the TL Calendar. Stream showing 1st person replay analysis. Always confusing with the times, dudes!

Wow someone needs to tell whoever runs this to invite the english caster. They just all jumped into the game and started without him, I get that they want to be on schedule but all someone needed to do was invite him into the lobby...

Sigh, how hard it can be to invite casters to games....

This tournament has great players but very bad organisation, why wouldnt they have an english caster ? Adebisi didnt even get invite wow..

Games on KR server are host by the players to reduce lags, and it seems that Oz doesn't invite him

Oz did not invite Adebesi for the third even if Millenium caster asked for that twice. Weird.

Hmmmm I just saw that Dimaga said he was tired and wanted to start at once or give the win to beasty, soooo.... it might be a default win for Beasty since Llewellys doesn't seem to want to start while they are already playing another game and said "then let him give the win, no way we start now"...
I hope they'll play it :o
|
Dimaga is acting like a child to be honest, he was the one late, then beasty asked that they play after white ra vs seth, dimaga whined a little bit but that's it, after that they start the series between white ra and seth, after 5 min into the game he asks that the game is played right now or he forfeits, what the fuck is that ?

Well maybe, but don't forget that French is far less modulate than English, less melodic and dramatic too.

Llewelly tells a lot about strategies and techniques but he is indeed not the best french shoutcaster to make it fun those are either Pomf & Thud or Zerator (Zerator is probably really hard to understand for foreigners because he speaks fast and he spend a lot of time playing on words )

I agree with that, we can't blame them for b.net problems, but the fact that Beastyqt and DIMAGA start to play without streamers just because DIMA feel tired seems to be due to a lack of firmness from organisers. I didn't want to be mean besides that, it is indeed a beautiful cup and Millenium guys are awesome

You must, Adebisi, you must!
I'm so excited to see how it'll play out, if Stephano will destroy Kas again or if it will be close this time, I want to know if Nerchio can finally win against Grubby, if Mana can overcome his PvZ weakness and the best thing is, no matter who advances, the quarterfinals will be great in any case.

Hey guys, I will cast the matches today I am not 100% sure if will be in English or German, but probably in English. Furthermore i will probably invite a progamer to join my Cast, so be prepared and tune in !

Does anyone know why the tournament doesn't appear in the upcoming events section on the right?

Okay i will definately cast the cup in English, together with "Foxy" from the Sc2ZergLair !
|
I'm hoping for either Grubby vs Polt or ThorZaIN vs DIMAGA final. But regardless I love these tournaments, will there be an English stream available today? I know yesterday there was three streams but one was Russian and two were French (I believe).

This bracket seems rather unlucky for polish players. I do not care what statistics say Nerchios ZvP is not his best MU and MaNa while owning in PvT still has some problems in PvZ (even if casters say all the time how he improved in this MU).
|
Half an hour before awesomeness :D I can't wait
|
I'm eager to see some good matches, i can't wait for the beginning of the cup.
Millenium/Stephano/Llewellys hwaiting
As a side note, Yogo, the french caster from Millenium, is absolutely great and is really knowledgeable (very high masters / GM Zerg). It seems he's going to be recruited on a permanent basis by Millenium.
|
Stream is online guys ! : )
|
|
|
Lack of a decent stream is what hurts this tournament the most. The line-up is sooooo good, everything else - not so much.
Nerchio vs Grubby just began.
|
|
haha MaNa is observing Nerchio vs Grubby and commentating on his stream :-)
|
only Mana is casting in english right now
his english is not bad
|
the game of one forcefield ;/ nothing special ... im dissapointed

Grubby 2 0 Nerchio, i dont understand why he can beat nerchio so often and always lose to stephano..
|
Grubby vs Thorzain will be played next!
|
Really weird game from nerchio, kinda unfocused build with roach/muta/corruptor/ling, never really did anything.
|
Nerchio played really bad for his standards.. seems like his ZvP is still shattered after HSC, on the other hand a solid play from Grubby, gg!
|

ah you're right^
so well played by stephano (:
|
|
Great work with the mutas.
|
He makes it look sooo ez.
|
ridiculous game by Stephano
|
Stephano's play is so artistic.
|
I've no idea where it went wrong for Kas, but it looked like he didn't stand a chance :o Edit : maybe he should have made turrets faster, it seems the mutas harass was very effective and let Stephano macro as he wished.
|
its stupid how easy it looks it feels like i go ladder now and do the same but i cant even beat a masters terran :/
|
Wow, that was a demonstration how to play, I'm seriously impressed.
|
That's why he said in interview "I don't use muta much because it's imba" ^^
|
Kas got crushed there in the second game. Playing that greedy with such an early 3rd CC against Stephano is kind of suicidial.
|
Well, this is bound to happen with all the terrans who tries to blind counter Stephano.
No turrets & no aggression, there is no way to win against muta.
|
MaNa vs Ret and the winner of this vs Stephano. Awesome matches today, I'm pumped! I have to say that the lineup of this tournament is better than some of the major events out there.
|

Hard to imagine. Stephano = a ton of glings and infestors. It's his trade mark.
For Stephano, playing mutas is like a cheese. No one would expect fast mutas.

4:00 third for ret, beat his own record of 4:10 i think lol

Roaches.
|
What the..? Why did Ret leave the game? I haven't watched the whole match, but i saw Ret having nearly all bases on the left and having a decent roach army. And suddenly he leaves?
|
I thought Ret was so far ahead almost the entire game.. sick play by Mana, always knew when and how to engage
|

Ret had prob. 20+ drones, a lot of roaches in production or rallied, warped in units are in combat immediately than add that roaches are not supply efficient
|
Llewellys (millenium's manager) said tonight on the stream that he made on offer to Bling. Bling is still under contract with dignitas until late february. We'll know in 2 months if Bling leaves Dignitas to Millenium.

Players are happy to participate in a (very) well-organized tournament (from a player's pov) with good prizes. They don't give a damn if there are casters or not. French cast is followed by around 6k ppl, which is more than enough for MSI to be happy and to provide 1k€ for the next one.
And as for the one saying Stephano is not a match to top Koreans, well...he proved you wrong so many times I won't bother list them
Sick play between Ret & Mana on this last game, so many back & forth, very enjoyable to watch.

Bling is the only good english player, he's a worthy investment for Dignitas and i guess they are going to try to keep him, but it seems Bling and Stephano are close friends, at least, Stephano, Bling and Bling's mother have exchanged tons of tweets.

mana met stephano on ladder earlier today and said "you are like 40-3 wins against me"
|
tt many supply blocks from mana

|
|
Haha, poor MaNa.
|
Stephano had more roaches than many had workers.
|
Wow, this one pretty one sided...the move to attack the B3 to have Mana stuck by his own forcefields was genius :D
And ye, Mana was supply blocked so many times, especially at the start...quite sloppy play :-(
|
Roaches gonna roach. Smart FF-provoking from Stephano.
|
"WHY SO MANY ROACHS".
Stephano had like 150 pop to 75 of Mana.

Classic attack at B3 to stuck the protoss units into win by Stephano

Stephano vs Mana record: 42-3 Stephano

Its sad to watch, Mana playing like he doesnt care at all. Disrespecting to fans
|
mana played so sloppy not at all as good as he was last summer
had a probe in stephano's base and didn't scout, multiple big supply blocks and not active at all with first two zealots TT;;
|
I feel sad for Mana :-( He didn't play as well as he could imho. Wp Stephano, korean timings...I guess playing bling whole afternoon was useful, heh
|
There comes a time, if he's seriously being manhandled by Stephano every game like he said, including ladder, you lose faith a little ;( It showed in TZain vs Stephano last week, too...
|
"why so many" mana's chatting was better than his play today...
|
how can he has so much stuff before warpgate finishes?
|
wow I was excepting more challenge but it was really one sided :/

Everyone loses hope against Stephano. He is far an away the best foreign player right now. I can't even think who'd be 2nd to him, he's just steamrolling everyone he faces.

Well, even if they beat him, Stephano's record and achievements still smash there's. They're not in his league. Both great players, but at this point Stephano is a step beyond anyone not still alive in code S.
Stephano is at that level now, you make a mistake, its over, you won't be coming back because he won't return the favor by making mistakes of his own.
He is the best of both world, he plays almost completely error free, while being able to be aggressive because of his supreme unit control and his ability to preserve his lings.
His opponents play sloppy, because they know they need to play near perfect to have a chance.

Exept this cup, tell me when Stephano did play fast Muta on antigua?
Exept this cup, tell me when Stephano did play heavy roach/ling build on 3 bases?

He always used some of these variations sometimes, to diversify his gameplay in order to not be too much predictable. (like all great players do. ). Sometimes it's also situational. (like heavy glings/roach on third)

It could be true but it looks like so much one sided from my point of view. For instance Kas never felt Stepahno was going to go muta whereas he dealyed his 3rd a long time on Antiga, on game 1 his decsion making was pretty questionable aswell: 3 rax push with not enough scvs (only 1 or2 ?) in the really first marines push. Mana seemed to not really play that seriously looking the minichat before the game and was not focused that much :/

To be fair towards Kas and Mana alot of it its mental. They have played Stephano so many times and lost like 99% of them so ofcourse those matches will be in there mind. Its like Goody vs Cloud something just happends mentally.

Okay, Stephano is good, but I don't believe he would be able to survive the hell that is Code A, acording to your statement Stephano is better as fOrGG, July, Bomber, LosirA, TheSTC etc. etc.
Again, he is good but he doesn't stand a chance against most of the Code A players.

He is the best of both world, he plays almost completely error free, while being able to be aggressive because of his supreme unit control and his ability to preserve his lings. His opponents play sloppy, because they know they need to play near perfect to have a chance. Okay, Stephano is good, but I don't believe he would be able to survive the hell that is Code A, acording to your statement Stephano is better as fOrGG, July, Bomber, LosirA, TheSTC etc. etc. Again, he is good but he doesn't stand a chance against most of the Code A players.
lol
You do know Stephano destroyed all these players in Korea right?

Stephano says 44-4 vs Mana and I know Kas havent been able to beat Stephano since summer last year

I don't think most people get how good the kid is. He's the best player bar-none. His unit control, decisions, reflexes, map awareness, etc etc are all above the Code S players.
The reason Nestea could be considered better is because Nestea takes the time to come up with really creative strategies that are designed to exploit his opponents decisions.
Stephano, for the most part, just plays his own game. This is why you have "counter" builds prepared for him. If he scouts it, which he will, he'll react. And if you give him an inch, he'll take a mile and take the game.

Sad that MaNa and Grubby lost, but their big tournament wins will come this year, I am sure! Looking forward to the finals of this one...

He gets his stats from Stephano and Mana themself, yesterday during their match :
"Stephano : Ready for the 47-3? "Mana : Not a chance, it will be 45-5"
It's includes custom training games i think, and i don't know when they started to count their win.

You do know ladder is meaningless when it comes to ranking players right?
I think Stephano could handle Code A as long as he understands what to prioritize first. He doesn't panic and he executes his plans fairly well, which are the true keys.

This Stephano is the "best in the world" crap is seriously starting to make me want to root against him.

Yes, MVP prepared a counter-build for him and won with it. He also did a roach all-in vs MC which MC held. Like I said... people prepare counter builds for the kid and beat him with them, like RGNspades did during his stream today. Stephano smashed him in a macro game1, then Spades did a nice marauder hellion all-in game 2 and won.
His stream is available for everyone to watch; why don't you go check it out and see how good he really is for yourself?

I think this is the first time I've seen someone proclaim Stephano to actually be a superior player to guys like MVP/MMA though. I mean, even if it's an analogy, comparing Spades to MVP is just downright insulting. I love the insinuation too...MVP obviously isn't as good as Stephano in a "real macro game."

Exept this cup, tell me when Stephano did play heavy roach/ling build on 3 bases? Exept this cup and blizzard cup, tell me when Stephano plaid cheesy rush roach? They seem to play sloppy because Stephano never play like that, it's unexpected
1. He played fast muta on antigua at SC4 against Thorzain, one or two weeks ago. 2. Tons of time on ladder at least; there was an MLG he played it v boxer. 3. Against MMA at IPL, against MKP at HSC4, etc.
Stephano's versatility is another facet of his game that makes him so good. He doesn't do these builds all of the time but players have to know that he's capable of doing them; it keeps them honest.

Sleep was never invited to ONOG and Stephano didn't drop a game in that tournament.

wow.. never saw bnet lag so much, that's weird.

A complete dick move by Polt, I almost feel a rematch should be in order for his behavior. If the game lags that bad, you pause, you don't continue to A-Move into the opponent's main.
The problem was, he has that game like 99% WON, there is no reason not to pause it! Just a bit lacking of manner.

The problem was, he has that game like 99% WON, there is no reason not to pause it! Just a bit lacking of manner, but if Dimaga has no complaints then all good. He lost the game from the beginning anyway. You're seriously saying that the person who is lagging has some sort of advantage? Have you ever played with lag? Zzz. Yeah, that didn't make much sense...
Anyway, given what happened between Stephano and Thorzain when they played a week or two ago, I have a feeling this will be pretty one-sided
Should be an interesting finals between Stephano and Polt though, except that I fear it will be ruined by EU-KR latency -.-

Oh man, Khaldor, this doesn't do any good. Just let it slide and talk about games, styles, whatever you like.

Polt won 2-1. They were pretty nice games from both sides. Oz was doing some interesting transitions and such.

Stephano trolling as usual

Why would anyone have an advantage in lag? I was trying to say, nobody can play in lag that severe. Anyway it was a minor thing.

"A complete dick move"? "Feel a rematch should be in order'? Because it's not like Polt has been playing with cross-server lag for the entire series right?

Look at Stephano trolling and trying to get a reaction. From the looks of this thread, he is once again successful. Seriously people? He is doing it precisely because he knows that there will be people who will start raging over it.

Or maybe he just went to pay for the food because he ordered it.

So happy that it seems like Thorzain is gonna win

Seems like Stephano just want to go eat his food. :d

Well done Thorzain. Pretty obvious he was going for this considering the map choice.

Extremly bad push from Stephano, it looks like he didn't notice the tank on the hill. Very strange missplay from him, quite disappointing. Game over.

Argh. I'd be happy for Thorzain to win that, but I'd rather have a ZvT between Polt and Stephano than a TvT -_-

Stephano played kinda terrible

this was just childish Why does everybody have this odd idea that Stephano's life revolves around them. Sure I think that players have to show a little bit of respect to their fans, but if Stephano has to do something let him do it. Pausing the game is no big deal, stop bashing him for being a person.
Also, ThorZaIN's crisis management has got to be some of the best in the world. I know that it's always been something special about his play (anyone remember the game on Crossfire in TSL3 Finals, I thought he was dead and NaNi had won for sure).

Polt vs Thorzain? Well well I think Polt has this in the bag.
|
It wasn't Stephano playing, horrible games from his part =/ Banelings on tank, zerglings on marines, overcommitment to the pushes, plenty of units lost for nothing...Credit is due to Thorzain to taking advantage of it, but I'm used to much better play from Stephano.

Well I didn't expect this result, gogo Thorzain, spoon Polt to death.

Anyway, given what happened between Stephano and Thorzain when they played a week or two ago, I have a feeling this will be pretty one-sided Should be an interesting finals between Stephano and Polt though, except that I fear it will be ruined by EU-KR latency -.- Well I guess I'll have to eat my own words. Not complaining though, go Sweden! ...not that I really think Thorzain will beat Polt, but whatever
Think Stephano was more focused on his food than on the actual games though, didn't really play the way he uses to

Congrats Thorzain, stephani played subpar
GOGO Thorzain!!

I still would not say, that one win against Stephano makes him the top foreigner terran. Kas was really impressive lately, winning ONOG and taking 3rd place at IEM. But it should be one of those two, they are better than Demuslim and Goody (no disrespect to those to, being not as good as Kas/Thorzain is no shame).
|
Kas and Thorzain are definitely the top2 foreigner terrans. If I had to pick just one I'd say Kas is slightly ahead right now, but thats just because he has been more in the spotlight recently.
Sadly besides Kas and Thorzain I can't think of a terran player who would be a strong contender in any tournament.

If Stephano did not pay the food delivery man, haters would go Stephano is a douche for not paying delivery man and making him wait! LOL. When you order Food it can arrive at any time. If it had arrived after or before the match then no-one would be bothered. Stephano does not control what time the Food man arrives. When it arrives he has to deal with it. No big deal.
Thorzain played the last two games very well. His first drop enabled him to scout the roach and baneling build and prepare a strong defence ahead of the attack. That was the key.

Polt should have asked for an hour to go eat breakfast, then come back and tell the doesn't feel like playing no more and ask them to postpone the tournament.. that would be just business as usual over there methinks.
|
Polt has way better multitasking than ThorZaiN sadly here.
|
|
ok that was bad, a moved his raven in...
|
Polt, a true nerd that plays games at 6 am because school's out and he no longer has a reason to have a regular sleep cycle.
But in all seriousness, I think Polt and Bomber are the two guys who don't give a shit about the times they play because these two ladder like they never sleep....
EDIT: Actually, speaking of ladder heros, the more I see them playing here and there the more I wonder if they ever sleep....

Just a 100 % Mechanics showdown.
Superior multitasking won the game

Thorzain lost so many units to the initial banshee harass that he had to pull SCVs to defend the first push, then Polt just attacked in too many places for Thorzain to defend properly.

Huh, is it just me or does it almost feel like one of the reasons Polt is playing on so many NA/EU tournaments is so he can work on his multitask and mechanics due to the latency forcing him away from micro-intensive strats?
I know there's money involved, but I just feel like it'd be a sensible idea considering the fact that Polt got a lot of shit for only being able to micro and do timing attacks and he's really moved away from that style.

Thei're switching server between each game so it's kinda weird to train playing with latency. :d I think Polt is just trying to get a bit of extra money from foreigners online tournament to help his income. Seoul University must be expensive.
