IM is playing.
gg to everyone. The moment people start losing games on their team, they'll just switch to MVP secretly.

Not enough players I guess?
They could play with type players since Take is both team manager.

NASL is holding its team qualifier this weekend too. How can teams be on both??

IM and Hoseo should qualify for this fairly easily. Best of luck to all teams though.

Can all teams participate in both qualifiers?

Since you can play in both qualifiers, should we just accept that Qualifier #2 is going to look the exact same as qualifier #1? Or will IGN accept the teams that (say...) make the round of 8 here, (plus two of the best first round losers, even) and then add 6 new teams to the list?
It'd be great to see some new blood here, I'm a huge fan of this league because of how wide a net you guys are throwing, and hopefully you'll throw it even wider for qualifier #2. There are some good teams out there with little international recognition that deserve a shot here, I think.
Depends on if they applied, of course, but it'd be neat to see a little turnover.

I would like to know the criteria teams were accepted based on, as rejected teams were not notified whatsoever.

IM did not respond to the invite by the deadline, so it was assumed that they were not interested and the spot was given to another team.

Would love to see one of the non-Korean teams qualifiy.

We evaluated each team based on subjective factors like working relationship with the IPL, depth of roster, players that are recognizable to the community, and projected ability to provide great quality games. We wish we could accept every team but that just isn't feasible considering the time intensive nature of the qualifier.
|
I think that there should be at least 32 teams in the qualifier. A qualifier is an opportunity for teams that don't have the reputation that the top teams have to try to play and beat the best. Only having the top 16 teams undercuts this point entirely. This looks more like an invitational than anything else. Adding more teams would hopefully add an element of a true underdog. Im not under any impression that any team could beat a team like IM, but I think that they at least deserve a shot to play. And there is a one in a million chance that IM is upset. And how awesome would that storyline be?
|
Really cool to see other Korean Teams like NSHS and Zenex signing up to be apart of this. I think it really speaks for the quality of the tournament. The qualifiers alone are something i'm super stoked for, I can't wait for the main event!

I'm not going to lie, it's very frustrating as a team manager to not receive any notification that we WEREN'T chosen for the qualifier.
I might be a little biased, but I felt very put out by the apparent selection process for these teams.

pulling for vile, but mtw will be tough. and then if they win, gotta face IM most likely oh well, hopefully they can show some good games regardless

i m with everyone. IM and NSHS. Very small chance for anyone else. Why is FXO not trying? edit: i am blind...

Alternate wants (They said so) and have enough players, but how can you play a qualifier when the full roster is at HSC IV when the qualifier for the team events (NASL and IPL TAC) are being played??
|
IM obviously for top half. Either ZeNEX or NSHS for bottom half.

It's a shame that Vile is seeded so close to IM. Vile is, in my opinion, a very underrated team, with a very solid showing at MLG Providence with 3 players making it to the Championship Bracket. With guys like Ddoro, Yong, State, Illusion, Chance, Hashe and Spanishiwa, I think that it is definitely possibly for them to upset teams like mTw that rely heavily on big guns like Dimaga and TT1 (though I do not think they will be able to knock down IM, but then again, no one predicted qxc to all-kill IM either).

I agree that the qualification selection process seems a bit ridiculous. It's essentially just an invite tournament disguised as semi-open qualifiers. And then letting each team play in the 2nd qualifier if they already played in the first? Better to just call it an invite tournament, don't see the point in trying to mask it as something else.
|
I agree with what Torabora said... Also its hard for new teams with up and comming players to show their potential to the public!

Guys, I understand where you are coming from, I used to manage a smaller team also and applied to and played in a bunch of leagues. That said, we feel like we are giving a bunch of teams that would not have normally gotten invites a chance to earn a spot. There has to be a certain cut off though, and we picked the teams we felt would be potentially competitive and would provide good competition. Running a 32 team qualifier is a long, intense process, and we are simply not prepared to undertake that at the moment. I don't think we were trying to hide anything, we clearly stated it was a semi-open qualifier with a selection process.

It would be nice to have any team with 5 players to just sign up, but there are time constraints I believe. For the IPL 3 qualifiers, there was a $20 entry fee to weed out people who would not take the games seriously. However, that was Bo3.
This qualifier will be Bo9. From watching the Team Arena, a Bo9 between most teams could last 2 to 3 hours. With the sheer magnitude of matches, letting just any team with 5 players participate will not be feasible.
It is basically a semi-open qualifier, in the sense that there is a barrier for unknown teams. It's a pity, but letting any team just sign up would take too much time.

If you were IGN, how would you make it better for the different teams and the fans? As a fan, I wouldn't want to see a semi-pro team get completely dominated in the tournament by a really good pro team.

You have CyberNation, who to be honest, has nobody other than SarenS (who hasn't shown much in the past months) You have Dream Team Gaming who, while I love JM and what he's doing, is essentially a lesser developed version of my team. You have ANZAC who I literally can't find a shred of information about (though from what I gather it's an Aussie/NZ team) You have LighT who is the newest team on the block (well, it's essentially KiwiClones, so that's pretty justified) NrG has Luckyfool.
mTw, NSHoSeo, Incredible Miracle, ZeNEX, x6, It'sGosu, Infinity Seven and ROX.KIS and eSahara all speak for themselves.

Hoping for It's GoSu to make a good showing. Realistically, no one has a chance against IM or NSHoSeo, though.

That's a pretty stacked qualifier...
|
Yea, I'm not suggesting that it be open to anyone at all, like NASL has done, but something along the lines of what they advertised in their original post - i.e., open to actually real teams with grandmaster/high masters level players. That would provide good games, not complete stops (or any more of a stomp than NSHS vs some of the teams there), and would give more of a chance to lesser known teams.
Another concern, which has been said, is that the selection process seems very random. No offense to any of the teams, but NrG (who hasn't competed in anything in a while), ANZAC, CN, etc seem like really odd choices.
Lastly, Perhaps maybe the biggest concern in my eyes, is letting teams repeat participation in the 2nd qualifier. This means that there aren't even going to be many new teams in the 2nd one at all, meaning that there are probably going to be a total of 18 teams period through 2 qualifiers. Seems like they already got their chance and should move on. Maybe the 2 semifinalists who didn't advance should get in, but I don't know about more than that.
Thanks to IPL for addressing the concerns though!

"NrG has Luckyfool." AHAHAHAHA that made me lol, im not going to lie

I don't have the exact roster in front of me, but ANZAC is the SEA Dream Team including Moonglade, Targa, YoonYJ, JazBas, iaguz, and basically all of the best players from the SEA server. To keep them out would basically snub an entire region, and they have some great players.
Edit: Added imba.FXO, as they were accidentally left off of the accepted teams for the qualifier. My mistake!

I wasn't aware they had all come together like that, as far as I knew iaguz and YoonYJ are on aLt and Targa is on infi right?
Anyway, it makes a lot more sense now, but I just couldn't find anything even close to a roster, thanks for the info.

as long as there is turnover for the second qualifier i'll be happy. its fine including perhaps the semifinalists/teams that did well vs koreans but after that you should give some other people a chance.

ya we played a few other teams a few weeks before that to though. The iP stuff and drama I'd really rather be kept out of this thread, its moved into like 10. I've even been "called out" on forums which I find funny, but all in all its not worth continuing to banter about.

For the next qualifier can I suggest accepting some different lesser known teams, and perhaps some more from the EU server?
|
Update on the qualifier -
It starts in 30 minutes.
There was a problem with IM and CyberNation playing this week, so they have been replaced by two more teams that applied.
Team Clash and inFerno eSports are replacing them respectively and are taking their spots in the bracket.
|
Is there any specific channel you'd like teams to meet up in?

I would probably go with+ Show Spoiler + Vile, since they are such an underrated NA team in my opinion, and ZENEX from the other side of the bracket, since they are like the underdog Korean team that just keeps fighting.

Better to just call it an invite tournament, don't see the point in trying to mask it as something else. The problem I have, is that the selection criteria seems VERY random. Out of those teams you mentioned i would put ANZAC and LighT as the two clear strongest with ANZAC slightly ahead perhaps.....also forgive my lack of knowledge but what team do you run and who are the players?? I don't have any problem with LighT being chosen, as Kiwiclones was a very strong team. ANZAC, however, I literally cannot find any information on them whatsoever. Nothing comes up no matter where I look, except that the name is a common acronym for Aussie/NewZealander Communities. For the record, I work with Team Clash. Yeah basically the clans they are in only really count in SEA, and some players like tgun (and Azz used to be) are on teams in NA (It's GoSu). The servers kind of have their own systems and not all players from a SEA clan will play on NA so we formed our own team to compete in international events representing the SEA team where otherwise we wouldn't have anyone. For those interested here is the roster (most have liquipedia pages if you care to find out more about them).

Anyone else finding that the audio and video aren't synced up? When WBC was placing forcefields in that last game I was hearing the audio for the cast before I saw the actual forcefield.
When DOA and catspyjamas came back on stream, I was hearing what they were saying before their lips moved. This happening to anyone else? And is there a solution?

Seriously, I have been enjoying this event far more than I anticipated, and I can't explain to myself why. I guess team leagues do have a special charm to them that individual leagues have not...

We're aware of the sound desync issues and are trying to find a solution for today's cast. We're working with some different hardware and processes now and it may take some time to get it all nailed down the best way. =)

PvP is very micro heavy, but rarely goes beyond 2 base, and often ends up as 1 base vs 1 base. ZvZ is very intense during the ling-bling stages, but afterwards often becomes roach vs roach wars, with hydra or infestor support. Since terran is such a versatile race, the mirror matchup has more variety. In the end, it's all personal preferences though...

If Hawk had attacked right there and then, he could have taken the game. That wall would have gone down instantly with all those banelings, leaving just the roach in the base with 1 banshee.
Edit: Dominating performance by Strelok, showing the power of mech, especially when Zerg is behind economically.
