Far from being unknown in the online game world, HP and Intel are organizing a totally new 2v2 tournament in Europe to promote the last PC gamer, HP Phoenix.
The HP Trophy is an international tournament for two-player teams with 5 200 € (6,700 $) cash prize. The organization should be flawless since Llewellys, Millenium SC2 team's manager, is head coordinator of the tournament.
48 teams will run for this event. Here is the perfect opportunity for you and your teammate to take part in a high level competition.
It is very easy to subscribe to the tournament: just send an email to hptrophy@gameo-consulting.com with the name of both players, prize list and league. Since it should be a big event, a selection will be done. A Millenium team will participate but we'll announce the player names later on.
More information will be available soon, but here are the main items to take note of:
- Two-player teams - 48 teams dispatched into 8 groups of 6. The 16 best teams will be qualified in a final bracket. - Match format : 4x 1v1, 1x 2v2 - Cash prize: 5 200 € (6,700 $) - The best matches will be streamed by Millenium TV every Saturday afternoon starting January 7th for two months, but other streams may be accepted (contact Llewelys).
So, if you like Starcraft 2, tournaments and 2v2 games, what are you waiting for ?!

Might be useful to put "2v2" on the op.
|
Yeah nice job by millenium

Stephano FTW
can't wait for 2v2 match
|
Some more 2v2s tournaments popping out, really appreciate Millenium giving us an opportunity to see competitive 2v2.
Really wish the 2v2 format was picked up by more prestigious names (MLG, DreamHack) or even GSL [or perhaps I'm just too optimistic]

nice seeing more support of the 2vs2 scene finally!
|
Looking forward to the day when effing 2 v 2s disappear again, this game was never made for that type of shit.
BUT: Good to see more support for esports and starcraft 2, even if this was effing 4 v 4 I'd still be happy about another tournament, especially with big sponsor names like intel and hp, despite that I think anything that involves more than 1 person per team has no place in competitive starcraft.

That's some professional ban-dodging ... I suggest you get out and don't watch it if you don't like 2v2. I like it and I'll watch it. And I'm not ready to have you deny me the possibility to see competitive 2v2.

The 1v1 requirement of this tournament filters out the 2v2 teams that don't have high-profile 1v1 players. This is a good thing for the tournament viewers, hosts, admins and sponsors since it is bringing in more already-famous and popular players rather than "those unknown guys that are good on the 2v2 ladder" ;P
But this is not a 2v2 tournament imo. It is a definition thing and everyone will have their own opinion. But I feel like "2v2 tournament" should be reserved for 2v2 only tournaments like the... 4PL Team Action, z33k masters weekly, PTSL, Competo team, CaseKing/instarcraft and ESL Holiday tournament, to name a few, and not be confused with a 2-man team tournament.
This tournament is more like a mini EG Masters Cup. It probably helps the future 2v2 scene some as we will see more and more high-profile 1v1 players training 2v2 and some great 2v2 games. Maybe the current 2v2-scene will be obsolete and dead in a few months due to a new influx of pro players jumping on n kicking ass. It's a good thing. The existing players in the underground 2v2 scene that still wish to continue will finally have some decent opponents to play against. It's something we've been missing for a long time.
Any tournament is good and any incorporation of 2v2 is awesome, so this tournament has my support. I'm sure all the premade 2v2 teams were shitting their pants hearing about the prize pool only to read about the 1v1 requirement tho. Contrary to popular belief, there are some 2v2 players out there that do not play 1v1 for the same reasons as many 1v1 players don't play 2v2.
It doesn't really mean much for this tournament as we will have the big names and I'm sure there will be awesome games nonetheless. And this tournament is good for 2v2, in the long run. Because there are still a ton of people that still don't understand or don't believe in competitive 2v2.
However, the recent ESL Holiday tournament showed the public how awesome it can be with pure 2v2 tournaments. I don't think there's any reason to not let go of that 1v1 requirement for future "2v2 tournaments". Especially if you want to market it as one. I hope we can have even more pure 2v2 tournaments alongside the hybrid ones in the future. glhf gg to all 1v1 players and best of luck to the old premade 2v2 teams, you'll need it if you want to have a chance in this one lol
tldr: nice tourney, thx mill&hp, still room for more more 2v2 only tournaments

When the tournament is going to start? It isn't stated in OP >.<

Is this a 2v2 tournament or a clan league with 1 2v2 match? Sort of confusing.

The format is the same as the "Davis Cup" in tennis. 2 1v1 then 1 2v2 and finally 2 1v1. If a team lead 3 0, the match is finished, no matter about the other match

It's more a clan League of 2 players (they can be from different teams, for exemple Demuslim + Ret, this team as already sign up), with 4 1vs1 in BO3 and 1 2v2 in Bo3

That format looks extremely interesting. Hope there'll be some english stream.

I still don't get it. How do you play 4 1v1 and a 2v2 with only 2 players? Do the same 2 players play every match or what ?
|
Yes, the format is:
Team1Player1 vs Team2Player1 Team1Player2 vs Team2Player2 Team1Player1 Team1Player2 vs Team2Player1 Team2Player2 Team1Player2 vs Team2Player1 Team1Player1 vs Team2Player2

Team 2 : Stephano + Nerchio

Idra/Sheth vs Stephano/Nerchio
4 1v1, 1 2v2

Wow, Mana & Thorzain signed up, too. This is going to be an awesome tournament, if you have someone to provide a decent English stream.
|
Don't worry for streams, you will have excellent french and english stream !
|
Guys, I know you don't particulary like to watch stream in French but the names used for the units/strats is often the english one and Llewellys is a really good and entertaining caster! Even if you stay on the english stream, make to come and watch at least a game casted by Llewellys
|
This will be a nice little tournament to follow. Thank you for making it possible.

Mana + Thorzain ? mouz really wants this one...
Can't wait !

On January 03 2012 23:14 VyingsP wrote: Mana + Thorzain ? mouz really wants this one...
Can't wait ! I doubt mouz told them to play there. As there are quite a lot teams from different teams (lol, you get what i mean ? :D) i think the teams let the players decide with whom they want to play themselves.
|
looking forward to goody+monchi and feast+grubby!
|
Mana + Thorzain seems OP!
Quite a few other nice pairs as well, should be cool to watch

All the replay are supposed to be linked on this site(http://www.hptrophy.net/), for the english commentaries, i have no idea! Some of the matchs are streamed in french on MilleniumTV.

Hello,
To answer some of your questions : - All qualifier groups are available on http://www.hptrophy.net/, you have 5 weeks to play versus each team of your group (so 1 match per week) A final bracket will be available after that. - You don't need to play at a particular date for this tourney except if you want to be streamed. So you are free to meet when you want to play. A round proposal is available on the upper left of each page and match of the week are glowing red on the main page, but as long as all match are played during the next month, you can play in different order. - You don't need an admin to play a match, selecting player map are done on the site. It's the same for reporting result, you can do it directly from the site and post replay as well. - If you have difficulty with the french text on the site, you can refer to the manual sent by the admin to participant (site was created before the decision to make this tournament international) - Replays are linked directly to each match on http://www.hptrophy.net/. You can also find back all replays on the hosting partner site : http://www.sc2replays.eu/search/competition/?v=HP Trophy - An english stream will be available later on (i don't have the date yet)

Wow, a team with a swiss player other than BiGs has won an Sc2 match?! GG! I'm glad there's other good swiss player showing up a little
(Elroye is a good player too!)

I can't wait for tonight's match
Krr & SyZ vs Osho & Nerchio
It's gonna be huge!

|
Last game, sYz vs Osho was so funny
Proxy hatch in the protoss's main doing nothing, 3 stargates on 2 bases vs a late 2nd hatch without tech, phoenix vs idra, phoenix + 11 gateways + colossus vs Idra + baneling, i don't even know how sYz won this ^^
Yesterday's game was very entertaining btw

Few matchs have been played this week. Check all the results on the official website

Literally. Can. Not. Wait!!!

Where the hell VoDs are???

Hey guys ! RO16 match today, Grubby/Feast vs Abver/Pomi at 18:00 CET on Millenium TV !
|
Is this not listed on TL calendar? I never see it on!
|
I love the bracket this tournament has on its page. If you klick on a match you automatically get all the games played during that match with links to replays, build order etc.
Wish every tourney had smth like that, really handy.
|
Reminder for those interested: Ret/Demuslim vs Tarson/Diestar this evening at 20 CET on Millenium TV.
|
|
Each group has pretty much only 1 good team in my opinion so probably not gonna watch though good job etting it togather, we need some 2v2s in tournaments.
|
|
First post updated with last playoffs results

Hm, strange, I've missed this tournament so far. Was it not well advertised?
Anyways, funny to see LiquidRet and EG_DeMuslim together as a 2v2 team. Seems there was more to Ret's thread about sponsoring DeMuslim as a spoof of a similar thread from Grubby sponsoring Feast.

So there is no stream of this?? Would love to watch...

Millenium site
It's in French, but if you don't understand it, you can at least watch it.

Every replay is stored on replays.eu - a website which is ironically is from aAa.

what happened with demuslim. Is they going to play?
|
Why wouldn't they get an English stream up. It makes literally no sense. Especially when there are sooooo many other tournaments to watch that have English streams.
|

AFAIK, Demuslim refused to play his 1v1 matches on the European server (since he's now in EG's training house or smth), and so did Pomi and Abver refuse to play on the American one.

Really nice to see some 2v2 action. Sad that there's no English stream though.

really enjoying the format of this tournament. Main issue for me is that there's no English stream. I love me some French, but still.
Anyway, gogo Team ThorZaIN/MaNa

Lucifron's so good! I really think he'll do great in the last few months of WoL if there are any tournaments he can go to.
