They played 4 players, and instead of sending out a 5th they forfeited the last match.

Dignitas did not send out Sjow or SeleCT, their best players.

I'll be honest, I think that Liquid might actually have a chance. Sheth and Ret are both fantastic players, plus Liquid might actually play their top players (HerO and Zenio) as opposed to the majority of Korean teams. If they play HerO, Zenio, Ret, Sheth, and (Z)Banjo, they could actually stand a chance.

I think I want Mouz to win (ThorZaIN fighting!), but at the same time my Liquid pride makes me root for them too. Hopefully we'll see some foreigners beat some Koreans!

This is all good and all, but history shows that teams mostly send forth their b-teamers (even foreigner teams) to the Team Arena. I guess a bigger pot might make some of the teams take it a little more serious (plus cross-continental lag is a big disincentive too).

First place is $10,000. That seems like plenty of incentive to take it seriously.

I'm assuming that you meant to write Liquid as opposed to Slayers. Slayers has the biggest chance to win.

Good catch, thanks! And yeah SlayerS probably has the best chance, but hopefully we'll actually see GanZi or MMA or somebody who isn't Crank, Golden, or Lots.

Two scenarios where that is likely:

1. A team manages to get 3 wins or push Slayers to an ace match, and they will respond with the big guns. Last time this happened was against Tyloo, Alicia was sent out, but the score was 4-4. If the score were 2-4 or 3-4 against Slayers (hard to imagine 0-4 or 1-4 for Slayers unless QIM sends out MVP first or col-MVP sents out DRG first), expect to see a top player.

2. Slayers plays a team they respect or feels is a threat. When mouz challenged Slayers, Slayers sent out their A-team largely due to their respect for Thorzain as a player and as an individual that had lived with Slayers. We have not really seen the A-team since (Alicia is kind of ambiguous). Of course, Mouz is back, as is col-MVP and QIM. Expect to see A-teamers in this match-up.

Considering the SlayerS lineup, Alicia isn't really a big gun anymore. He's maybe fighting for the title of third best protoss on the team with SocceR and Crank behind Brown and Puzzle. Then look at the terran and zerg lineup and you see he probably isn't near the A-team.

The irony is that these guys that Slayers sent out are completely mediocre even by foreigner standards and don't do anything that any player on Dignitas roster can't do just as well. But they take it fucking seriously and they prepare if they're scheduled to play for they team.

Whereas Dignitas players and many others that have been sent out against Slayers in the IPL team events seem to be taking it like its a ladder game or something.

Very disappointing attitude. If you're not going to take the competition seriously and have your players actually prepare for it, don't join the tournament.

pretty much this^

i can only hope that the remaining games are taken more seriously and no more forfeits happen. This should be a great and interesting tournament if the teams would just play out all the games they're suppose too. It'd also help if the players would stop putting up such lackluster performances vs koreans

Honestly though, can you blame them? Compare the two.

SlayerS B-teamers that aren't in the GSL devote all their time to either practicing or a few small group of tournaments (ESV Weekly, this, maybe KSL... but that's about it).

Foreigners devote their time to: work/school, one of the 50 million online cups, streaming for a bit of income, coaching every now and then, LANs every week etc. etc.). I mean it varies by foreigner, but they don't have the time luxury that SlayerS b-teamers probably do.

But yes, I do agree 100%. SlayerS B-teamers taking this seriously. Foreigners aren't. Result is a pummeling every time.

In light of the separation of QIM, will Quantic Gaming be participating by itself? Or will they still be using players from IM?

What? Golden has been slamming players and it looks like he's just playing a reactionary style aka ladder. If by prepare, you mean practice, then yeah, but I highly doubt these guys have any idea what type of players Dignitas has outside of Select and Sjow. I mean, hell, Golden even lost his 3rd because he literally had 0 spores up and a lair only halfway done. When you go like 20-1 in this league you're outclassing your opponents, not outpreparing.

Wondering this myself, i doubt they use players together considering ther abrubt breakup.

Also Liquid vs Slayers was a prity fun matchup last time around, weather it's B team or not those are top koreans that prepare 100% for such a team league, because they can. Unlike the MMA's etc.

Quantic CEO Mark "Together, we will complete our immediate participatory competition obligations that remain"

This tournamnet was announced a day before the breakup, so they said they're going to still play this tournament together. Maybe IPL should put notice up on OP... a lot of people asking this.

Seriously, based on results there shouldn't even be a discussion whether to invite empire or not, they would be easily in top 4 of the invited teams. Looks like IPL only invited teams that were already invited to regular team arena, which makes the fact that empire wasn't there yet even a bigger shame.

I'm surprised so many fell for the troll post by beastyqt several pages ago. :D

I disagree with all people calling those who SlayerS sent to play in IPL recently B team players, if you take a look at current SlayerS roster you just have to draw the conclusion that most of them are C team. Gogo SlayerS! :>

Just shut up seriously. You don't have any information to make judgements like this, nor do you have any right to assume how much each of us in dignitas prepared for our games. Each one of our players takes all games they play seriously and it's not something we look at and go "meh". I understand that us forfeiting the 5th game was disappointing and I can't do more than apologize for that but don't spew bullshit like this without any information whatsoever.

I don't get the attack on our attitude really, given the situation we were in, we did the best we could've done with what we had to work with at that time. Now I understand it's disappointing that SeleCT and SjoW didn't play, but you don't know the background about how we were approached about the tournament, how much prior notice we were given, and how much time we had to work with after being told that we were playing. So just stop.

Playing Starcraft is their work, and IPL team league is as big as it gets if you exclude MLG and GSL. Not taking it seriously for whatever reason is like me saying I can't take my college seriously because of my guitar classes and working out.

Priorities man, get yours straight.
