Yeah, it's really sad, imo.

No, Stephano did not beat - head-to-head - the Korean players who were considered the best coming into the tournament - that would be MMA, MC, Ryung, and Puma - but he beat all the players who beat them.

And by beating them, those players showed that they were themselves top-level players. So why take away from Stephano?

I think a lot of people feel that Stephano is getting more credit than he's due. From my perspective, this cycle of overhyping one messiah only to abandon him and move onto another is pretty unhealthy. Stephano had a great tournament and is obviously a top player, but him beating mid-tier Koreans, (yes, they are mid-tier, because they have not shown to be consistently top-tier -- this should be an easy concept) in one tournament isn't any kind of proof that he's the greatest European player, or whatever else people are saying.

While some are trying to discredit Stephano maliciously, that doesn't mean the points raised by others aren't legitimate.

Really? Is every north american contaminated with ignorance now? Do you know anything about the european scene? Stephano is winning absolutely everything and european players are miles ahead of NA players, so Stephano is obviously the best foreigner, how can you even doubt that? You should watch some EU tournament streams or his own stream and stop being so goddamn ignorant.

you call people out for discrediting his win and then do exactly the same and it's all based on typical north american ignorance, it's not just americans I've made the experience that canadians can and actually are a million times more ignorant than americans, there's just so few of them that nobody usually cares about them.

Whoah; that's a really dangerous post right there.

Why is it dangerous? it's the truth, look at all the north americans in this thread and how they are bming stephano.

stephano has shown consistent results over a couple of months now, he has dominated the EU ladder, EU tournaments and now IPL 3. Yet there still are people who claim that "hes not that good". I mean seriously? How ignorant can you be.... name one foreigner that is actually better than him.... I really want to know? Thorzain? He played this tournament and lost, Idra? he lost to the guy stephano beat..... Huk? Huk lost to stephano...so who is better, seriously?

This is what I mean by ignorance... the guy just won a major tournament with some of the very top koreans participating and all people have to do is talk a huge load of crap about him. And it's mainly north americans.... if you don't want to be called ignorant then simply -> don't be so ignorant all the time.

Not to be ignorant or anything (and im in NA...)

But He didn't play "The best koreans" he played good ones. Not the very top ones though. Also, one tourny win does'nt make you better than everyone else just because they were also in it.

Thats like saying MVP didn't win Code S this season so obv the guy who knocked him out is better, Which is just not the case.

Edit: Before I get flamed, He did play amazing and he did deserve that win. He's also a top foerigner imo. The Best? Debateable.

But my point is that it's not just this one tournament, he's dominating the EU scene for literally months now, I know you are probably not aware of this (which is in fact ignorance) and I don't blame you for that, I know very little about NA american players (but thats mainly down to the fact that most of them really aren't very good), I however blame you guys for not listening to the europeans that know the european scene much better than you do.

Why is it so hard for you to accept that stephano is the best european player at the moment? I know that because I watch most of the european tournaments and he is absolutely demolishing everyone there. So yes, the actual ignorance is that you just won't listen.

Like I said it's not just IPL3, he also dominated europe over the last few months, so I'm 100% sure that he's the best foreigner at the moment.

so...that's your good reason for making racist comments and do a massive generalization? really?

lol racist comments? because I call north americans ignorant when the guys I was arguing with even admitted that they know next to nothing about the european scene? makes sense.

However, there are other ways to defend your opinions than putting a whole continent in a pack like you did...

This reminds me of that show.... think it was called State of the game or something like that.

OMG, Stephano has been my favourite player to watch for quite some time, but his run through the qualifiers and the main tournament of IPL3 just BLEW MY MIND!

I really thought that Stephanos Micro was his biggest strength, but after seeing how he can hold off a 7-8 Gate timing on 3 bases, with +1 AND Lair on the way, how he just manages to get the perfect amount of Drones/Units out in every freaking ZvZ, or how he never misses an inject, even during a crazy battle just showed me, that behind his often flashy and impressive Micro, is a extremely deep understanding of the game and absolutely stunning macro/multitasking.

I could actually see him in the Finals of a GSL Code S if he trains a bit in Korea.

Totally forgot about that... cool. I hope he attends. Getting to see Stephano up against the best koreans should be interesting even if he gets stomped. I think most thought it would probably be a 10 korean tournament.

Completely agree, he just need to go to korea and improve his gameplay for sure. I never thought he would win IPL after his game against Alive. But the game against Kiwikaki was just phenomenal

I really enjoy stephano playing... and i follow both EU and NA ladder, aswell the tournaments...
But, you cant really say that Stephano its better then Idra, just because he won against TheSTC. If you did see the games between Idra and TheSTC, the 2 games were like "if i dont try to win in 10 minutes ill lose" That was the mindset of TheSTC on those game. He cheeses on the first game, and made an risky timing attack on the second one, and im say its risky because if idra had scouted that build earlier, probably TheSTC would lose that game, because he cut vce production to make that build,
In the second game that Idra won, we all that watched the games sees that just owned TheSTC.. really outclassed him...
Im not saying that TheSTC its not good, but in that series, he played the player.. and if you guys see to, after the game that Idra won, MC went to talk to STC, and i have almost 100% that they combine that build for the 3rd game.

Really, i think that Idra and Stephano are far the best players outside korea today, in a straight game.
If any of you guys watched the games between Idra and Puma in the IEM, or even the games of IPL3 of Idra, he got improved a lot!... He is way stronger, and he is way more offensive player and better mult tasking. You can say that Puma its not great, but everyone must know that after he leaves korea to practice in EG house, his TvT skill has decreased, because the EU and NA ladder doesnt have great top terran players, and he lost to MMA, and 2-0 everyone besides him.

But, if you guys would ask, between Idra and Stephano, who are the best? well, That´s a question that is way harder to answer.

Between the great players, any player can take a game or a series from anyone, but only the real TOP players can take out Big Tournament, and thats why MVP and Nestea are considerer the best players in the world.. They lose, for sure, but they winrate are better then everyone else...

One player im looking for to see playing its OGsSuperNova, his games against DRG on GSL , and the games on WCG Korea, showed that he is playing like a boss..

Anyway,
I think after this patch 1.4 was released we are acctually seeying way better games, and i think that the game its more balanced... but i still think, that tvp on small maps are not that balanced..

"IdrA's fucking shit! PuMa obviously lost on purpose"

"Stephano got fucking lucky in his bracket, what a shit tournament"

so we get two foreigners winning two major LAN events and these are the comments we get? Why has this community adopted this mindset? :/

Why is it so hard for people to admit IdrA and Stephano are insanely good and both played amazing (I'm especially impressed with Greg and how hard he broke out of his huge slump )

StC did not cut SCV production in game 3. When he pushed, he expanded, he kept macroing well, he kept making SCVs and he kept applying pressure. Just because IdrA defended awfully and allowed the hellions and marauders inside his main does not make that build an all in or risky in any way. I actually thought it looked pretty safe. In fact, the only danger would have been mutas but I'm positive theStC would have been prepared to deal with them if he hadnt dealt the damage he had.

Just because IdrA crumbled to early pressure does not make it cheese or cheesy. if it had been 1 base blue flame-marauder with no SCVs then yes, that's an all in. Red flame marauder with 2 bases and constant SCV production...no.

I guess to fully appreciate Stephanos run and to understand how good he actually is, you'd have had to watch some EU Tournaments, that really proved that this was no fluke - Stephano is actually legitimately THAT good!

I mean: Maybe Lucky's ZvZ was his weakest MU, but nonetheless; Stephano beat two very good Korean Zergs in ZvZ in a Bo3 and a Bo7 without dropping a single game - he completely and utterly crushed them! He also beat some of the best foreigners and Koreans in all MU's. The games against alive were kinda weird, alive is very smart and he just did some very strong timings and punished Stephano for not using Banelings and going heavily upgraded Zerglings, which he likes to do a lot for his lategame with Ultras, Cracklings and Infestors. But other than in this Series, Stephano looked almost untouchable.

Also, his playstyle involved heavy use of Infestors in EVERY MU and he used Neural Parasite more than any other Zerg I've every seen, so he basically had to revamp his whole playstyle before IPL3. I dare to say that before the patch, he would've raped even harder, cuz his Infestor-Control is just sick.
