He played standard vs Boxer when he needed a win to guarantee 2nd in the group.
Yeah if you watch the talk with Stephano/White-ra/Huk/Idra, you'll hear him be asked about changing his tactic. Basically he said 'I am not stupid, it totally failed, so I changed'.
