Showing MLG that the extended series after a forfeit is ludicrous and completely defeats the notion of " the player who won the first set deserves to be ahead in a rematch".

It's less about "the player who won the first set deserves to be ahead in a rematch" than it is about preventing situations where you can be eliminated by a person you were actually ahead of in head to head games. If you 2-0 him the first time you meet, then he 2-1s you in the rematch, you beat him overall 3-2 but still got knocked out by him. The rule makes complete sense to me.
Have a nice day.

I feel like MLG definitely needs to take a look at their rules and perhaps consider revising them.

It's absolutely ridiculous to be disqualified and then be at a game disadvantage against the player who you were disqualified against. I always thought the point of tournament rules was to maintain fairness for the players but I don't see how this is fair at all.

Let's say player X wasn't just late, but just completely blew off the game and forfeited that match. Then met up again in the loser's bracket. Why should he get to start off even? How is that more fair?

Because it doesn't make sense. Not only does the forfeit drop them into loser's bracket, it also affects further matches? What, should Whitera just start 2-0 against all his further opponents then? At next MLG too? Where does the arbitrary punishment for a forfeit stop?

It's pretty simple: extended series exists so that players that are obviously superior to another player stand less of a risk of being eliminated through a fluke (cheese, etc) if they meet again. In this case, none of that is applicable since they haven't played before and as such, it is impossible to determine who is the better player. For all we know Whitera could be the better played that would have absolutely stomped the other guy if they'd played, and now extended series is doing the exact opposite of its job by making it harder for the better player to advance.

It's not about the better player, but promoting the player who won, which should be the better player. If the other player won, whether through games or forfeit, then he should retain an advantage. And the punishment isn't arbitrary, it is applied every time two players who played, play again.

Kiwikaki 0-1 Moonan

Game 2
Kiwikaki @ 2 o'clock
Moonan @ 8 o'clock

3:30
Moonan with the gasless expand. Kiwikaki knows Moonan is gasless and is on one gas himself.

5:30
Kiwikaki takes his own expansion as Moonan finishes. Pokes Moonan's ramp with a Zealot and a Stalker and only sees a bunch of Marines.

7:30
Moonan lands his expansion just as Kiwikaki gets his expansion up. Kiwikaki gets a few free Marine kills with Stalker micro. Kiwikaki making Cannons in his mineral lines?

10:00
Moonan up to Medivac production with Stim finishing. Kiwikaki breaking the rocks at his Gold and starting Charge while +1 Armour finishes. Moonan moving across the map with a pesky MM force.

11:30
Kiwikaki starts a Dark Shrine and Moonan gets on the defensive with 5 Bunkers in total. He also drops Kiwikaki's main and taking out a ton of units as Kiwikaki attacks Moonan's Bunker line.

13:00
A base trade scenario has begun as Kiwikaki's production facilities are unpowered. Moonan loses his natural but keeps everything in his main. Kiwikaki's bases are both ruined.

15:30
So apparently Kiwikaki is way ahead on Probes and just powers up his buildings again. He takes his Gold while Moonan just starts taking his natural. Kiwikaki hanging around the Watchtower with Zealots and Sentries while leaving 5 Stalkers in his base that destroys a 2 Medivac drop.

as soon as I saw Kiwi picking shattered temple I KNEW he was gonna do 2-base 6gate zealot-sentry all in :D I've seen him do it so many times on this map... moonan did the wrong choice to drop Im sure if he went back and had ALL those units at home + 5 bunkers and meds he would have hold AND won the game easily. silly mistake oh well
