How many championships? Who's he beaten that's impressive on a regular basis? He's incredibly middle of the road, along with many other very good Koreans who aren't good enough to stand out from the pack. And the fact is he made blatant and obvious mistakes in those games, REPEATEDLY. His ghost usage was atrocious. Do you deny that? The problem is that when many people analyze a match, they don't actually analyze the gameplay, they just look at the story behind the players to often fallaciously judge a match and the players. For example (this will be a very extreme example, but I feel that it should prove my point nicely), let's say we had a game featuring Nestea against some random NA Grandmasters player. Let's say Nestea, for some reason, plays straight up atrociously. He forgets larva injects. He's supply blocked constantly. He drones at the wrong times. He controls his units terribly. Maybe he's drunk. Maybe he's trolling. Maybe a ghost possessed him to play terribly. Whatever. Needless to say, Nestea gets roflstomped by this random NA Grandmasters player. I guarantee you that plenty of people would be awestruck at hoe amazing this random guy is. He's so good! He's so inspiring! He can compete with the best of Korea since he beat such a good player! He's taken out a two-time GSL champ! No. That's not how it works. The problem with giving a player prestige and developing perceptions about his skill based on the name-value of the players that he beats is that even though he might have beaten a big name, a prestigious player, you have to look at how well the big-name actually played, not at who simply won. Yes, it perhaps seems unfair because it always feels kind of bad to "take away" from someone's win, but that's actually how it is in reality - you have to look at gameplay, not the player's status or achievements. | ||
