Our first SML was a success! + Show Spoiler +Starcraft Miami League is sponsored by Scorpico Multiplayer the pinnacle of multiplayer gaming. With high end computers and the best customer support, we are one of the best gaming centers in the US. We have set a date to our very first SC2 event for July 24th @ 1pm EST/sign ups start at 11am EST to test the waters. There are about 40 computers total which can be used and owner has given the go ahead to have the venue until the tournament ends. The tournament will be a Best-Of-Three Double Elimination using MLG maps as well as Rules. Revenue will be split 70/30 and here is a brief example of what prize pool distribution will look like: Entrance Fee = $20 32 Player Revenue+ Show Spoiler +Total NET = 640
Venue = 200
Prize Pool = 440
1st - 250 2nd - 100 3rd - 50 4th - 20 (money back) 5th - 20 (money back) 64 Player Revenue + Show Spoiler +Total NET = 1280 Venue = 400
Prize Pool = 880
1st - 400 2nd - 200 3rd - 100 4th - 70 5th - 50 6th - 20 (money back) 7th - 20 (money back) 8th - 20 (money back) As you can see, winnings are extremely well distributed making sure that not only 1st and 2nd gets money but also 3rd 4th and 5th place(32 players example) as well. As for 64 players top 8 will get paid. Also, owner will most likely have RedBull, Monster, or BAWLS to sponsor the tournament giving players free drinks and t-shirts to winners. As i'm working on getting different kind of sponsors. What do you guys think, instead of Church Sunday, lets have a SC2 tournament! start running the word around ... we just want to test the waters for this first event and run it smoothly but I want to make it the best I can! I will be advertising this tournament for the next 3 weeks to make sure 64 people DO show up. I know from friends and locals I can get 20 people to go and i'm sure owner will have tons of people show up since we will be advertising at the store and I will be hitting up all GameStops and video game joints. This tournament will also be broadcasted by Robin who is the caster to many MLG Forum Related Content. Official Stream: www.justin.tv/cochozIf you guys need to contact me, feel free to PM me or reach me at my GOOGLE VOICE #305-791-6401 Visit http://www.facebook.com/ScorpicoMia for pictures of the venue and information on Scorpico.Address: 5701 Sunset Drive Suite: 268, Miami, FL 33143 Phone: (305) 669-4577 Website: http://www.facebook.com/ScorpicoMia
UPDATE: Our second SML has been given a date of Sunday, October 9th. The week prior MLG Orlando! More information to be released in the next couple of weeks.

Damn! Nice mate! The only thing is that $20 is too expensive in my eyes :/ I will try to make it and spread the word, but I can't make any promises. Anyway, I hope that either the price can be brought down or that this one is successful as for the price for future events to be brought down.

It will def be taken into consideration for next event, once again, this one is to test the waters and see what we can work with improvements will be made as we continue moving forward with SML.

Looks like the weekend day pass for a computer is usually $30.
For $20, assuming the venue is letting us stay until the tournament is over, will we be allowed to just sit at one of the computers and do whatever we want if we get knocked out of the tournament? Because $20 sounds great for a tourney/LAN. But if we are spending 20 dollars, getting knocked out in round 1 and then going home or being forced to get off the computer, that sounds less appealing.
Any way you can find out?
|
Tournament is double elimination bo3 so you're getting 2 chances to get yourself back together if you loser on your Winner bracket match ... i'm sure owner won't opposed to letting people use xbox or unused PCs but that's something i'll have to talk to him about. More on this soon.
We are trying to run a successful tournament. Therefore, making sure players feel like queens and kings its our main priority

Being from South Broward and not a SC2 player, this is too far for me to attend just for observational purposes. However, if you were willing to hear of a BW tournament, I'd be interested in helping organize it.

but this doesn't happen every day! what could be better than having a Mini MLG-Cbus here in South Florida i'm a BW player too but Cbus opened my eyes and here I am ... what would your drive be? 40mins to an hour? takes me 30 mins to get there from Homestead and this is located in Miami on SW 40th? or something close to that.
+ Show Spoiler +Update: tournament will also be streamed and have commentator Robin The Wonder who will soon be a complexitygaming commentator

Looks fun, I will probably attend ^^

SW 40th? Forty five minutes on the turnpike. Btw to all commuters, the last time I hosted a BW event, people came from Tampa + Orlando + Port St.Lucie, so no excuses bros.
|
We can def talk about it Game, i'm always game for BW but for now I have to focus on this and other projects I have with the MLG community.
45mins its not that bad!!! you'll have a chill time and its inside Sunset Mall ... bring your GF and have a great time! or just sit back, chill, and relax watching the tournament!
|
Sounds like fun. I'll try to make it. Will be looking forward to more info
|
Cochoz I'll think about it. Btw Cochoz, I have a list of 75 players that live within 2 hours of Broward County, and 40 of them are in Miami. (for BW)
|
This is sick. Cochoz is the man.

So the entry fee is $20, will there be additional fees to use the computers, or is their the option to bring your own computer?
|
On June 28 2011 07:19 ExO_ wrote: So the entry fee is $20, will there be additional fees to use the computers, or is their the option to bring your own computer?
Owner just confirmed that while the tournament is running everyone is able to use unused pcs or xbox or consoles. But, once tournament finishes you guys have to understand that he has a venue to run but he'd be willing to work something out with you guys to give you all discounts to stay the whole day if desired. once we're down to 32 players, there will be 8+ computers unused so you guys will be able to chill and whatnot ... tournament will run til 6pm(having 64 player) depending on how many people come.

Sweet, barring unforeseen consequences, I'll be there.

I'll be there, at least to spectate if not play

I'm in Palm Beach and may make the trip down...sounds like a good time, and I wouldn't mind upsetting a few of the big names at LAN

Game, still don't play SC2?

I've got stuck with a 4 hour duty shift on Monday for a transient aircraft to come in so I'll be unable to attend sadly >_<;
Thanks for the invite though. Definitely will try and make it down for the next event.

I need you guys to trust me, i've been running tournament for a while now with different formats and whatnot ... I'm not gonna be waiting between rounds to start the next one ... as soon as 2 players are set to play, i will give them a 5-10 min break to rest and then set them up to game. I have other ideas as well, to run the tournament as fluent as possible.

Hey, remember, top 8 pays for 64 people not saying that i'm thinking CatZ will win the tournament, but there's definitely more opportunities to get yourself your money back or win some extra

Well, that's beyond my reach to make them come :/ but, make sure to tell them that it's $20 because it's a double elimination tourney and bo3 also that's 3 hours of minimum wage job to come and spend 6+ hours of pure fun hanging out with the community and giving it a shot at going out with $400+ in rewards ... i mean, even top 8 pays, so they can get their money back or win some extra ... also, if there in it to win it, they should be looking at the $400+ 1st place prize!!! not the entrance fee!!!

This is awesome. Now I have a reason to start laddering again....Let's make this big!

$20 is too much money?Save a dollar a day till the tourney and you'll have enough for entry and gas too. It is very rare we get SC2 events in South Florida, you don't know when we'll get another chance like this. Scorpico is a nice LAN center, I can't think of a better LAN center open today in the tri-county area. It is really hard to keep a LAN center open and relevant down here in South Florida, let's show them some support and help the local scene grow.

Not gonna have to wait anymore! Our main goal for SML is to have a tournament the last Sunday of every month. This one is going to mainly be to see what needs to be work on and if our expectations are surpassed or not. It'll only get bigger and better from here on out!

Homestead campus here :p that would be awesome if some of you guys could post the fliers around MDCs, BCCs, and any other schools/colleges. The more people, the more prize pool, the more money to distribute to top 8 players

Hi, I'm new to the boards but found this post via Google. I'm around the airport area and Sunset Place is a hop and a skip away and the venue itself is great and the owner is mega cool.
Anyway, if it's not overstepping my boundaries or antyhing (I would hope not!) I'd love to attend. I've moved back into the area a few months ago and I'm really looking to make new friends and meet some likeminded folks into the game.
So I'll probably be showing up to play since I don't typically work Sundays.

This tournament is gonna be so sick. Counting down the days
|
|
Just some advice, consider starting the tournament earlier just to be safe. You don't want it running too late on a Sunday. Not doubting your organizational skills, its just that a 32 man double elim tournament will play out 63 matches total (2 * # of participants -1) and a 64 man tourney will have 127 bo3s. Average length of a bo3 plus setup time can last anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour (TvT anyone?). Do you really think you can finish that before midnight if you start at 1pm? You gotta make sure you have matches running constantly and be strict with players getting dq from not being there during match time. Just giving my input as I want this tourney to work out.
|
Hey Cochoz just FYI if you want it over before sunset, good luck.
At the NESC2 League (double Elimination tourney) we had 25 people and I think the final match ended around 2AM.
Started around 12:30 1:00
|
We have enough computers to make the tournament a run on ... once set matches are available to play, we will be continuing. We're not going to wait for a specific round to be over to start another. I expect the tournament to last 4 to 6 hours. We have plenty of PCs and as for setup, once there are 32 players remaining, players will be stationed at a specific computer for the remainder of the tournament to avoid setup issues. If we get to ro16 at a decent time, I will also provide the players with a 30 minute break and give a heads up in case they would like to go eat. Which btw i expect everyone to have a good meal before the tournament starts because it is unknown as to whether they'll be able to go out and get something.
EDIT: Sunset will be around 8pm that gives me 7 hours to take care of things. Once again, it's our first tournament and we learn from mistakes. I've made plenty of 16 players double elimination and it takes me a little over 2 hours to finish it.
|

I'll be there just for this lol. I hope there is a Mature Language Advisory on the front door!
|
Yeah we had I think...16 computers. And then with people playing more slowly than others, tvts, etc. it ended up taking way longer than expected having to wait for some parts of the bracket to catch up.
Good luck tho dude I'm sure it will be awesome

how many signups so far etc?
|
On July 07 2011 17:18 coL.CatZ wrote: how many signups so far etc?
We're not taking any sign-ups or anything. Sign-ups will be at 11am on tourney day(July 24th). But, from what I can see, over 64 people will be showing up which is what i'm aiming for. There are plenty or replies on this thread and loads of views on it as well. Also, there are loads of people who go to the venue which are interested in signing up. I also went advertising this past weekend putting fliers around town at all gaming related places. This weekend i'll be hitting north with it. Also, there are a couple of people who said will be posting the ads on different college campuses, schools, etc? As long as we get 64 people I will be happy with the turnout. Anything under that its unacceptable! Destiny and yourself should let people know about the tournament. The more people, the more prize pool, and better training for MLG Anaheim.
EDIT: Thinking of having an SML the week prior each MLG event for practice. What do you guys think?
|
I bet more people would come if Catz and Destiny promise to offrace Protoss.
|
If over 64 people show up what will happen? I know I dont want to drive 2hours to Miami and then be the 65th signup and I wasted 4 hours of my time and cant play. Maybe make a reservations list or something to ensure that people who know they are coming get a spot?
|

There's no cap for the tournament. We were just using 64 as the minimum amount of players that we'd like to see at the tourney.

|
Looking forward to it! Also, can we change race to what the matchup would be? Like instead of PvP, I could make it ZvP. Just asking to see if thats possible.

Thanks, Mooki.
Yes, you can alternate races. Less than 2 weeks away! :D

Alright, sweet! The only thing stopping me from going would basically be gas money. I'm a few hours away. Looking forward to it though! I want to see CatZ and Destiny too :D haha

this should be lots of fun, is there an estimate of how many players will show up yet?

I'm guessing 64 people minimum will be showing up for sure :D if I get way more than that, ya'll better be ready to pull an all-nighter lol
|
I Will try my best to try and attend. Having local tournaments are always a Cool thing to have.
|

@Cochoz: What keyboards and everything do you guys have. I planned on bringing my own stuff if I play, I just want to know. Thanks.
|
they have some Logitech keyboards, if you wish to feel more comfortable then ya, bring your own keyboard/mouse.
|
I will most likely be attending.
|
I will be attending as well as my brother, i'm also trying to scrape together some friends to bring along with me to play or obs. Should be fun!
|
So happy to see so many of you wanting to come! :D <3 i'm so excited! I am having the nerd chills!
|
|
Catz and Destiny, you guys should help us get some advertisement out there with your streams! The more people show, the bigger the prize pool!

I will see you there my good lad!

@Cochoz what is the latest time we can sign up? It is an hour drive away for me and getting there at 11AM might be a little rough.
|
signups are from 11am to 1pm!
|
Man, I'm getting scared I'm young, bad and seeing how many people are going, I'm not sure how well I'm gonna do >.> lol
|
Practice and get to watch some great players play worst case scenario!
|
So stoked about this!! Driving a couple hours to play some friendly SC2. GLHF!!
|
2 days!!!!! can't wait gonna be alot of fun still hunting down anyone i can to join me ^.^
|
Sounds like fun but I really hope that it doesn't get TOO crowded for the venue to where you are shoulder to shoulder with everyone. Hope for some exciting games!
|
I agree. Not sure if it would be worth the gas and everything to play terrible (Well, meeting CatZ and Destiny would be cool)
|
Yea, those 2 alone will be worth the drive... then again it is only about 15 minutes for me.
I've never been to one of these (LAN event). Does everyone wear SC2 shirts or nerd gear or is it the opposite where everyone tries to seem cool and less nerdy (or a combination of those)? I had some weird looks when I picked up my WoL CE at midnight wearing a SC2 shirt, as if they were any less nerdy coming to get it at midnight. Maybe it was because I am an old gamer lol.
|
I don't know, I'm gonna wear my STIM shirt if I go. I'm ust kinda giving it a second thought. Not sure if I should go, lose, then watch? Or go, lose, leave. Doesn't seem as awesome, because you know CatZ and Destiny are going to be crowded by people. And, I'm young too I'm not gonna like nergasm when I see them, I'm gonna say Hi and stuff. but idk
(Sorry if this post makes no sense. Mixture of thoughts.)
|
Might as well stick around and enjoy the show, especially for the casted final games!
|
Yeah. I'll probably go for fun I know I'm not gonna win. I just wanna play good, pull something impressive for my rank.
|
The venue is big enough, so space won't be a problem. As to get to meet Catz and Destiny, I will see if they're willing to do a meet and greet for 30 mins or so and signature whatever you guys bring.
As for SC2 apparel. I will be wearing my awesome Zerg T-shirt :D <3

If anything, to sign it would be my keyboard, or shirt. I would just save that shirt I play Brotoss but that shirt looked could, and couldn't find any good P shirts so I got that Might get a new one.
