Another thing is that you have more scans in bw due to no mules - scanning so that your goliaths could get an extra 3-4 hits off was common, while doing it in sc2 isn't economical.

It is important to note that mass mutas can still beat Goliaths, and that it really comes down to upgrades (if Goliaths were 0/0 they were basically useless vs 3/3 mutas, due to their damage being 10x2 - so vs 3/3 they do 14 dmg a volley, while the other way they do 28 or something). There was a weird counter system - if the Z was making tons of mutas, you made goliaths/valks, if they made hydras you wanted Tanks. I have seen games where the T made goliaths all game and the Z made mutas, and the Z still won (at the A/A- iccup level especially on colloseum where you could get 3 gas easily).

Valks are the real counterpart to Thors - and Valks are much better because they were far more mobile. Really high armor also made mutas do nothing. Scourge countered them until a certain number, then Z just gave up air superiority.
