NASL Vod Thread

Wednesday, Jun 15 1:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)

Taken from the NASL site:
After nine weeks of competition, group play in the first season of the North American Star League has come to a close. Ten players have punched their tickets for the Grand Finals and one additional player will secure their place by winning the NASL Open Tournament. Twenty more will attempt to secure one of five additional spots by coming through the playoff bracket. While seeding for the playoffs is based on league standings, many players have not played one another and are presently tied. As such, a series of tiebreakers will be played and broadcast this upcoming Tuesday to set the stage for playoff action.

Some explanation

Squirtle vs Sheth -- they're playing each other Round 1, so a tie-break is irrelevant.

MorroW vs Ace -- Ace chose not to play a tiebreak game (he probably didn't want to wake up on a weekend at 4am to play 1 game of SC2).

Boxer vs Strelok -- Since they are fighting for a Grand Final seeding, this tiebreak game is still pending.

Hope this clears up some of the confusion! I also will add that there were some games today that were decided by coin-flip:

SeleCT vs Sen -- SeleCT takes lower seed

Axslav vs CrunCher -- Axslav takes lower seed

I know both Naniwa and MC are beasts, but it would seem desirable for cruncher and axslav to throw their games in order to avoid PvP against MC.

What kind of person 'wins' the right to play PvP vs. MC :D

I would lose on purpose if I were one of these guys... but then again, I'm no pro.

So that means Morrow can decide which spot he gets, right?

Ok, so which games do we have today?

This is what the event says here on TL:

+ Show Spoiler +
(P)Axslav vs (P)CrunCher (for 16th / 17th seed)
(P)TT1 vs (P)HasuObs (for 12th / 13th seed)
(T)BRAT_OK vs (P)Socke (for 18th / 19th seed)
(T)Fenix vs (Z)IdrA vs (T)NaDa vs (T)SjoW (for 7th / 8th / 9th / 10th seed)

For the four player tie, the players are matched against each other randomly. Then, the winners play each other and the losers play each other.

Grand Final Seeding Tiebreaks
(T)SeleCT vs (Z)Sen (for 6 / 7th seed)

Since Axslav and Cruncher aren't playing, according to Xeris' post, the other games will be shown?

lol. Cruncher will take the higher seed. And plays against oGsMC.
Actually, to be honest Nani and MC are probably two of the hardest players to make a choice to play against.

We will see: BRAT vs Socke, the 4 way bracket of IdrA, NaDa, SjoW, Fenix... and TT1 vs HasuObs. And yes, MorroW is the 2nd seed.

PvP wise it seems MC is the more feared opponent, at least judging from the MC vs. Naniwa games at MLG. MC just seems to be on a whole different level PvP

Was Axlav vs. Cruncher decided by coinflip because both players would have preferred to be seeded lower? (Thus avoiding a ridiculous game)

Seems like a similar issue in BRAT_OK vs. Socke. They might prefer to lose and face Morrow rather than Ace.

Lol seriously this is one of those situations in which you know you are going up against a beast of a protoss regardless haha. I would be kinda sad whether i won or lost

But seriously i hope this influences NASL to change how their tournament runs.

I loved the select vs MC series as much as anyone seeing mass carrier against Mass Battlecruisers but players should never be in a position where they are losing a match on purpose for better seeding. It makes no sense. "If i lose this match, i have a worse seed.. which means i will have an easier round.." huh.

The object should be to win every match you go into. But obviously they want to win the tournament so i am not faulting them at all for knowing what matches they want to lose, but they shouldnt ever be in a situation where they go in wanting to lose.
